| File | asmbool80a.dll |
| Description | ASM Boolean |
| Component | Autodesk ShapeManager |
| Publisher | Autodesk, Inc. |
| Category | Application component |
| Windows system file | No |
| Standalone download | No official standalone download is identified |
Autodesk ShapeManager is a geometric-modeling kernel used by Autodesk products including AutoCAD, Inventor, and Fusion 360. Other CAD applications may also redistribute Autodesk components, so the program named in the error matters.
The correct copy belongs in the installation directory of the application that installed it. Its location depends on the Autodesk product and release. Public file listings disagree about the architecture and metadata of some 80a builds, so file-index claims about size, version, timestamp, or 32-bit and 64-bit status should not be treated as authoritative.

Errors associated with this file
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because asmbool80a.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because asmbool80a.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading asmbool80a.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load asmbool80a.dll.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in asmbool80a.dll.”
- “The application was unable to start correctly.”
- “Cannot load library …Bin*.dll.”
- “Unable to load the Modeler DLLs.”
The exact asmbool80a.dll messages are commonly reported wording rather than a confirmed Autodesk-standard error catalog. More importantly, “the specified module could not be found” can mean a dependency of the DLL is missing even when asmbool80a.dll is present.
Before fixing anything
Write down these details from the error:
- The name of the Autodesk or CAD application.
- The complete path shown in the dialog.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether the issue began after an update, uninstall, antivirus detection, or Windows change.
- Whether the file is absent or exists in the named application directory.
Do not move or rename the file yet. The path identifies which installation needs repair and helps distinguish a missing DLL from a missing dependency.
Fix 1: Repair the Autodesk product
This is the best first repair when the error names an Autodesk Bin directory or appears immediately after an interrupted installation.
Use Repair with the classic Autodesk installer
- Close the Autodesk application.
- Press
Windows, type Control Panel, and open it. - Select Programs.
- Open Programs and Features.
- Select the affected Autodesk product.
- Click Uninstall/Change.
- Choose Repair.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Autodesk application again.
Repair restores missing product files and registry entries without requiring you to locate individual DLLs.
If the application starts normally, stop there. Do not replace the repaired DLL with a downloaded copy.
Use Reinstall if Repair fails
Repeat the same procedure, but choose Reinstall instead of Repair if that option is available. Reinstall replaces the installed files from the original installation source.
If the Autodesk product uses the newer 2022-and-later ODIS installation technology, Repair may not be offered. Autodesk states that these installations generally require an uninstall followed by a reinstall from the Autodesk Account or official product installer.
Before uninstalling, back up custom templates, profiles, tool palettes, scripts, and other work-specific settings. Then:
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Find the Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the product again from your Autodesk Account or use the organization’s official installer.
- Run the installer.
- Restart Windows once more and test the application.
Do not mix files from different Autodesk releases. A DLL from another product or release can produce entry-point errors, dependency failures, licensing problems, or further startup failures.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a legitimate Autodesk file after an update or after a change in detection rules.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
asmbool80a.dllor the Autodesk installation directory. - Expand the event and inspect the file path.
- Restore or allow the file only if it came from the official Autodesk installer and the path belongs to the affected product.
- Run the Autodesk repair procedure afterward.
Do not restore a DLL downloaded from an unknown website. If Defender detects the file again after restoration, leave it quarantined and reinstall the Autodesk product from its official source instead.
Microsoft’s guidance for Protection History explains how quarantined items are reviewed and restored.

A missing runtime dependency can make Windows report that asmbool80a.dll cannot be found even though the file exists.
Install or repair the package matching the Autodesk application:
- Use the x64 package for a 64-bit application.
- Use the x86 package for a 32-bit application, including a 32-bit application running on 64-bit Windows.
- Both packages may be installed side by side.
The package architecture must match the application, not simply the Windows installation.
- Open Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Download the required official package.
- Run
vc_redist.x64.exeorvc_redist.x86.exe. - Accept the license terms.
- Choose Repair if the package is already installed.
- Choose Install if it is absent.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the Autodesk application.
You can also use Microsoft’s direct packages:
This is a dependency check, not a guaranteed fix for asmbool80a.dll. If the error remains, repair or reinstall the Autodesk parent application.

Fix 4: Install pending Windows updates
Outdated or damaged Windows components can interfere with installers and runtime packages.
- Press
Windows + I. - Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Check Windows Update again.
- Retry the Autodesk installer or repair process.
If an update is waiting for a restart, complete that restart before testing the application.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself is damaged or when several installers and applications are failing. They are not a direct way to restore an Autodesk-owned DLL from Windows component storage.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Autodesk application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. The commands may take time and may use Windows Update as a repair source. See Microsoft’s system file repair instructions.
If SFC reports that it repaired files but the Autodesk error remains, return to the Autodesk Repair or Reinstall procedure. SFC does not normally supply product-specific Autodesk files.
Running these commands manually means waiting through scans and interpreting logs without knowing which change affected the failure. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what needs attention, while repairs require the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the Autodesk application remains the definitive fix for its own missing DLL.
Fix 6: Check permissions and the user profile
Autodesk may fail to read its installation directory because of permissions, security software, or a damaged Windows profile.
First, test the application with administrative rights:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the Start menu.
- Find the Autodesk application.
- Right-click it.
- Select More.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Test the operation that previously failed.
If this works only as administrator, do not permanently weaken folder security. Have an administrator review permissions on the Autodesk installation directory and check whether security software is blocking the application.
You can also test another Windows account:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create or use a separate local test account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch the Autodesk application.
If the application works in the second account, the original profile or its permissions may be damaged. Copying user settings should be done carefully because Autodesk profiles and customizations may contain application-specific paths.
Fix 7: Update the Autodesk product and related drivers
Install the latest product update offered through the official Autodesk installer or Autodesk Account. Do not copy the DLL from a newer release into an older installation.
Graphics drivers are not normally the direct owner of asmbool80a.dll, but outdated drivers can cause separate Autodesk startup or modeling failures. Update them from the computer manufacturer, graphics-card manufacturer, or Windows Update.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To check through Windows:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not use Device Manager to search for asmbool80a.dll; it cannot repair an Autodesk application file.
Manually identifying the correct driver means hunting hardware versions and checking several vendor packages. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while installation requires the full version; it is optional, and it does not replace repairing the Autodesk product that owns this DLL.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore when the failure began immediately after an update, uninstall, security-software action, or other system change.
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the failure began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is a fallback, not a replacement for reinstalling the Autodesk product. Microsoft documents this process in its guide to point-in-time restore.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random archive
A downloaded DLL may contain malware, belong to a different Autodesk release, use the wrong architecture, or require dependencies that are still missing. It may also cause an entry-point mismatch.
The safe sources are the official Autodesk installer, Autodesk Account, an organization-managed Autodesk deployment, and Microsoft’s official runtime packages where a dependency is involved.

Do not copy it into System32
asmbool80a.dll is not a Windows component. Placing it in C:WindowsSystem32 can hide the real installation problem and cause Windows or another program to load an incompatible copy.
Do not use regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A modeling library is not automatically a self-registering COM component.
Running:
regsvr32 asmbool80a.dll
will normally be irrelevant and may produce an error saying that DllRegisterServer was not found. Repair or reinstall the parent Autodesk product instead. Microsoft documents the command in its regsvr32 reference.
Do not mix 32-bit and 64-bit files
A 32-bit application needs compatible 32-bit libraries and dependencies. A 64-bit application needs compatible 64-bit libraries. Windows being 64-bit does not mean every application installed on it is 64-bit.
Because public listings conflict about the architecture of particular asmbool80a.dll builds, identify the application architecture and let its official installer supply the file.
Do not perform a clean uninstall first
Autodesk clean-uninstall procedures can remove multiple Autodesk products, residual files, registry data, and licensing information. Use one only after ordinary repair and reinstall attempts fail, and back up customizations first.

If the error persists after reinstalling
Collect the following before contacting Autodesk support or your administrator:
- The complete error text.
- The executable path.
- The
asmbool80a.dllpath shown in the error. - The Autodesk product and release.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition.
- Antivirus Protection History results.
- Whether the DLL exists in the product directory.
- Installer and application logs.
- The result of the Visual C++ repair.
- The result of DISM and SFC.
A persistent failure after a clean official reinstall usually points to a dependency, permissions issue, conflicting Autodesk installation, security-software block, or an application-specific installation defect.
FAQ
Is asmbool80a.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an Autodesk ShapeManager application component with the internal description “ASM Boolean.”
Does every Autodesk application need it?
No. The file is used by applications and releases that include the relevant ShapeManager components. AutoCAD and Inventor-related installations are possible owners, but the executable and path in the error must identify the affected program.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Should I register asmbool80a.dll?
No. regsvr32 is normally inappropriate for this modeling/runtime library.
What if the file is present but Windows still says it is missing?
A dependency may be missing or damaged. Check the full path, repair the Autodesk product, and repair the matching Visual C++ Redistributable.
Can I copy the file from another computer?
Avoid it. Even a file with the same name may belong to a different Autodesk release, architecture, or dependency set. Use an official repair or reinstall.
Is this likely to be malware?
The filename itself identifies an Autodesk component, but any DLL can be replaced or planted. Check its location, publisher signature, and installation source. A copy outside the expected Autodesk directory deserves additional scrutiny.

Is Windows Features or Device Manager the fix?
Usually not. Windows Features does not install Autodesk ShapeManager, and Device Manager does not restore application DLLs. Use the affected product’s official installer first.
