What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before copying or downloading anything, answer these questions:
- Which program fails? The file is associated with legacy ImageFX software, including FXTools, FXPic, FractalFX, PlanetFXFX and VectorFX.
- When does the error appear? Note whether it appears when launching the program, opening a project, or installing it.
- What does Windows say? Common messages include “fxtls432.dll was not found,” “the file is missing or corrupted,” “Error loading fxtls432.dll,” and “the specified module could not be found.”
- Is Windows 64-bit? Available file records identify
fxtls432.dllas a 32-bit Win32 library. A 32-bit application can often run on 64-bit Windows, but very old installers and dependencies may not. - Was the file quarantined? Check Windows Security before assuming it was deleted.
fxtls432.dll is an application file called ImageFX Effects DLL, not a Windows system component. The safest repair is to restore it from the original ImageFX application installer or a known-good backup, not from a random DLL website.
What is fxtls432.dll?
Available historical file records identify fxtls432.dll as an ImageFX effects library associated with:
- FXTools
- FXPic
- FractalFX
- PlanetFXFX
- VectorFX
Those records describe it as a 32-bit Win32 DLL, with a reported version of 4.0.0.5, an approximate size of 107,008 bytes, and copyright information from 1996–1997. Treat these as identification clues rather than universal validation checks. They come from historical file records, not a current official ImageFX support page or Microsoft catalogue.

The file is not supplied by Windows, DirectX, .NET, or the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Installing one of those packages will not normally recreate this particular DLL.
The error may be caused by:
- An incomplete or damaged ImageFX installation
- Antivirus quarantine
- Accidental deletion
- A missing dependency loaded by the DLL
- An incompatible legacy installer or application
- A wrong-architecture or unrelated replacement file
- A damaged user profile or altered application path
- Malware or a tampered file
Work through the fixes in order.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
The first task is to find the executable that requests the DLL. The filename alone does not tell you which installed program is failing.
Find the program from the shortcut
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, note the path in Target and Start in.
- Open the folder shown in Start in, or select Open File Location if available.
- Look for the program’s uninstaller, readme file, or setup program.
- Write down the application name before making changes.
If the error appears while opening a file, note which application is associated with that file type. If it appears during installation, the installer itself may be too old for the current Windows version.
Use Windows application repair
For a modern packaged application or an entry that supports repair:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the parent ImageFX-related application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the program again.
Repair should preserve the application’s data while replacing damaged program files. If the error disappears, open the features that previously failed and confirm that the program can load normally.
For traditional desktop software:
- Press the Windows key and search for Control Panel.
- Open Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the ImageFX-related program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall the program from the same window and reinstall it from the original installer or trusted software media. Save any projects or configuration files first. Do not delete the application folder manually before checking whether the uninstaller is available.
Reinstall the complete application rather than copying only fxtls432.dll. The installer may also provide private dependencies, registry settings, configuration files, and the correct directory structure.
Fix 2: Restore the file from quarantine or a known-good backup
Antivirus software can remove an old DLL because it is unusual, unsigned, packed, or associated with an obsolete program. That does not prove the file is malicious, but it also does not prove that restoring it is safe.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any entry that refers to the ImageFX application or its installation folder.
- Read the detection name and file path.
- Restore the file only if you can establish that it came from the original installer or a verified backup.
- Run a full scan before launching the program again.
Microsoft warns that restoring a genuine threat can expose the device. Do not choose Allow on device merely because the program reports that the file is missing.
If you have a backup of the original application folder, compare its location and contents with the installed program. Restore the DLL beside the executable that loads it, unless the original installer documents a different location. Do not restore it globally to a Windows folder.
If the file is absent from quarantine and no trustworthy backup exists, return to the application repair or reinstall step. A random replacement is not a safe substitute.
Fix 3: Check whether Windows is hiding the real dependency problem
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that fxtls432.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load a dependency required by it.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCheck the application directory:
- Open the folder containing the program’s main executable.
- Confirm whether
fxtls432.dllis present. - If it is present, do not immediately replace it.
- Check whether the error occurs only with one feature or project.
- Review any installer log, readme, or vendor documentation for required runtimes.
- Re-run the original installer and select a complete installation if that option exists.
Do not assume that Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is the missing dependency. Install a Microsoft runtime only when the application’s documentation, installer, or a diagnostic message identifies it as required. The current Microsoft Visual C++ packages are separate runtime libraries and do not provide fxtls432.dll.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit compatibility on Windows 10 or Windows 11
Available records identify fxtls432.dll as 32-bit. That is consistent with a legacy 32-bit application. A 32-bit program can often run on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility support, but that does not guarantee that every component will work.
A 32-bit DLL should normally remain in the application’s own directory. Do not use the names of Windows folders as a guide:
C:WindowsSystem32is used for 64-bit system binaries on 64-bit Windows.C:WindowsSysWOW64contains 32-bit Windows system binaries.- Neither folder is the normal destination for this third-party ImageFX DLL.
Check the application architecture and compatibility settings:
- Right-click the application’s executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Test an older Windows mode suggested by the program’s documentation or original release era.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if the program requires access to protected files or registry locations.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the application again.
If the program works only under compatibility settings, the DLL may be present while another legacy component is failing.
Very old software may depend on 16-bit installers, VBX or ActiveX controls, obsolete drivers, or undocumented Windows behavior. A 64-bit version of Windows cannot run 16-bit Windows components directly. In that situation, use the original software in an appropriate older Windows environment or a virtual machine, subject to your organization’s security and licensing requirements.
Fix 5: Update Windows, but do not expect Windows Update to supply the DLL
Windows updates can improve compatibility and repair unrelated system problems, but Windows Update is not a source for fxtls432.dll.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Select Download & install when updates are offered.
- Restart when prompted.
- Test the ImageFX application again.
If other Windows components are also failing, continue with the system repair commands below.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when multiple unrelated applications are failing, Windows features are damaged, or system corruption is suspected. They repair protected Windows components, not normally a third-party ImageFX DLL.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the original application. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the application repair or reinstall instead of expecting SFC to recreate fxtls432.dll.

When manually repeating DISM and SFC is becoming guesswork, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it found; its repair function is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the ImageFX application remains the definitive fix for an application-specific DLL.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the error points to a driver
fxtls432.dll is an application library, not a graphics driver file. Device Manager is therefore not the first place to repair this error. Use it only if the application also reports display, audio, printer, or other hardware failures.
Recommended Free Tools
To check for a driver problem:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the failing hardware.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Device status message on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Use Update Driver only when Windows or the hardware vendor identifies that device as the problem.
- Restart Windows and retest the application.
Do not replace a graphics driver solely because fxtls432.dll is missing. The ImageFX application still needs its own file.
If manually checking hardware entries and driver versions is taking too long, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and show the detected issues; driver installation is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the ImageFX program remains the definitive repair for this file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not copy fxtls432.dll to System32
Copying the file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is usually the wrong repair.
It can:
- Hide an incomplete application installation
- Cause Windows to load the wrong version
- Create DLL search-order conflicts
- Make later troubleshooting harder
- Put an unverified file in a location used by many programs
Keep the file beside the executable that needs it, as established by the original installer. If the program was designed to load the DLL from another private folder, the installer should create that arrangement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not use regsvr32 unless the vendor requires registration
regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer.
A normal application effects library may not support registration. Running a command such as:
regsvr32 fxtls432.dll
can produce “DllRegisterServer was not found” and will not repair a missing dependency.
Use regsvr32 only when the application’s original documentation explicitly says that this particular DLL must be registered. If that instruction exists, use the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version of the command for the DLL and run it from the DLL’s actual folder. Otherwise, skip registration and repair the parent application.

If the original ImageFX installer is unavailable
No current official ImageFX download or supported modern installer for this exact DLL has been established. Do not treat a third-party file listing as an official download source.
Your safest choices are:
- Restore the complete application from a known-good backup.
- Locate the original installation media.
- Ask the software owner or organization that supplied the program for its installer.
- Move the application to an older supported Windows installation or controlled virtual machine.
- Replace the legacy application if its required components cannot be obtained safely.
Do not download a standalone copy from a random DLL website. The file may contain malware, belong to a different application, have the wrong architecture, be a different build, or fail because another dependency is missing. Even an apparently correct copy does not establish its publisher or integrity.
Use System Restore if the failure began recently
If the application worked until a cleanup, update, driver installation, or software removal, System Restore may undo the change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally changes system settings, installed programs, and registry state without changing personal files. It does not replace a reliable backup of the ImageFX application.

Frequently asked questions
Is fxtls432.dll a Windows file?
No evidence identifies it as a Windows system DLL. Available records associate it with ImageFX applications and related products.
Which programs use fxtls432.dll?
Historical records associate it with FXTools, FXPic, FractalFX, PlanetFXFX, and VectorFX. Identify the actual requesting executable on your computer before restoring anything.
Is fxtls432.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available records identify it as a 32-bit Win32 library. A third-party listing may label it differently, but that conflicting label is weaker than the available 32-bit identification.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Only when the parent application specifically requires that runtime. None of those packages is a verified source for fxtls432.dll.
Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when the file is present?
The DLL may depend on another missing library, or Windows may be unable to load it because of architecture or compatibility problems.
Can I register it with regsvr32?
Usually not. Use regsvr32 only if the original application documentation explicitly requires registration for this DLL.
Can a 32-bit ImageFX program run on 64-bit Windows?
Often, but not always. Old installers, 16-bit components, ActiveX or VBX controls, drivers, and other obsolete dependencies may prevent the program from running.
Is the file malware?
The filename alone cannot establish that. Do not assume it is malicious merely because it is obscure, and do not assume it is safe merely because a file listing exists. Verify its origin, scan it, and prefer the original installer or a known-good backup.
What if none of these fixes works?
The application may require unsupported legacy components or an installer that is no longer available. Stop downloading replacement DLLs and use original media, a verified backup, or a controlled older Windows environment instead.
