The safest repair is to restore the Windows component or Japanese IME feature rather than downloading a loose DLL.
Which fix applies to you
Use this list before changing anything:
- The error appears across Windows or when using Japanese text input: install Windows updates, restore Japanese language support, then run DISM and SFC.
- The error began after removing Japanese, a language pack, or an input method: add Japanese again under Windows Language & region settings.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined the file: inspect Protection history before attempting a repair.
- Only one old application reports the error: repair or reinstall that application. It may be requesting an old IME component from its own folder.
- The problem began immediately after an update, rollback, cleanup, or failed installation: run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC. Use System Restore if the problem started after a recent system change.
- The file exists but Windows still cannot load it: check its path, digital signature, architecture, dependencies, and the executable named in the error.
- You found a copy on a DLL website: do not use it. A matching filename does not prove that the file belongs to your Windows installation.
What imjputyc.dll is
Microsoft documents Imjputyc.dll in security-update file inventories for Microsoft IME components on Windows and Windows Server. Those inventories include the file in both x86 and x64 packages, so it is not always a 32-bit DLL.
Microsoft IME is the Windows input method used to enter Japanese hiragana and katakana with a conventional keyboard. The file is therefore part of the Windows Japanese input environment, not a normal Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, or general game dependency. Microsoft update records show that the file varies across Windows generations and architectures.
Some third-party inventories describe it as Microsoft IME 2002 and give it the internal description Microsoft IME. Treat “Microsoft IME 2002” as a catalog label, not proof that every copy belongs to a separately installed product with that exact name.

A normal system location may look like:
C:WindowsSystem32IMEIMEJPimjputyc.dll
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit copy may instead be handled through the 32-bit system environment, commonly under:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The exact IME subdirectory and installed files depend on the Windows release and language components. Do not copy a file into either location simply because the name matches.
What the error means
You may see wording such as:
The program can't start because imjputyc.dll is missing from your computer.
Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Other variants include:
imjputyc.dll was not found.
The code execution cannot proceed because imjputyc.dll was not found.
imjputyc.dll could not be loaded.
imjputyc.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
These are loader messages. They do not prove that the program displaying the message owns the DLL. Windows, an input component, or an older application may be the part requesting it.
The cause may be a corrupted Windows component, removed Japanese language support, antivirus quarantine, an incomplete update, disk corruption, malware remediation, or an old program that expects an obsolete IME component.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates first
Windows servicing is the best first step because imjputyc.dll is a Windows IME component.
Windows 11
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install every available update.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Check for updates again after restarting.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install the available updates and restart.
Try the affected program or Japanese input again. If the error remains, continue with the Japanese IME repair and system-file checks below.
Do not extract imjputyc.dll from an unrelated Windows version. Microsoft’s update inventories show that legitimate versions differ between Windows releases, servicing branches, and x86 or x64 packages.
Fix 2: Restore Japanese IME through Language settings
Use this fix if the error started after removing Japanese, changing language packs, or cleaning up input methods.

- In Windows 11, select Time & language > Language & region.
- In Windows 10, select Time & Language > Language.
- Select Add a language.
- Search for Japanese.
- Select Japanese and choose Next.
- Leave the language features you need selected, including the Microsoft IME option.
- Select Install.
- If Japanese is already installed, select its three-dot menu or Options button.
- Open Language options and install or restore the available Microsoft IME feature.
- Restart Windows.
Menu names vary between Windows releases. The goal is to restore the Japanese language feature and its Microsoft IME rather than manually replacing a DLL.
Test by opening a text editor and selecting the Japanese input method from the taskbar language control. If Windows text input works but one old application still reports the error, the application may have its own damaged files or an obsolete dependency.
Fix 3: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the most important repair when the file is missing from its expected Windows location, Windows reports corruption, or the problem affects more than one program.
Save your work first. Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish. It may pause at a percentage for some time. Then run:
Rank #2
- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands finish.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a source. That is why DISM should run first. Microsoft documents this repair sequence in its System File Checker guidance.
Success means that DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it found no integrity violations or repaired corrupted files. Test the original application afterward.
If DISM says that source files could not be found, install pending Windows updates and run the commands again. If the problem continues, use a matching Windows installation source with DISM’s /Source and /LimitAccess options. The source must match the installed Windows edition and architecture; do not point DISM at a random ISO or another computer’s system folder.

Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an IME file after a false positive or malware cleanup.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
imjputyc.dll. - Expand the entry and inspect its path, detection name, and action.
- Do not restore or allow it automatically.
Restore a file only when its path is a normal Windows IME location, its Microsoft signature can be verified, and you have determined that the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that allowing a real threat can expose the computer.
If the file was found outside a Windows directory, particularly in an application’s temporary or current directory, do not restore it blindly. Update Defender, run a full scan, and investigate the executable that requested the DLL.
Fix 5: Repair or reinstall the affected application
If only one older program displays the message, Windows may be healthy and the application may be making an obsolete request.
First identify the program:
- Read the full error dialog and note the executable name.
- Check Task Manager for the application’s process.
- Right-click the process and choose Open file location, if available.
- Check Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application for an error at the same time.
- Check Windows Reliability Monitor by searching for
Reliability history.
Then repair the application:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair or Reset, if provided.
- If no repair option exists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Install a current copy from the application’s official source.
For games, use the launcher’s file-verification or repair command before reinstalling. If the error is caused by a damaged application installation, reinstalling that specific program remains the definitive fix.
Do not assume that reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET will repair this file. Those redistributables are not the normal source of a Windows Japanese IME component.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error started immediately after a driver installation, update, language change, cleanup operation, or other system modification and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, and installed programs while preserving personal files. It does not replace a current backup, and it may remove applications installed after the selected restore point.
Updating drivers: when it helps and when it does not
A graphics, chipset, or input-device driver is not the usual source of imjputyc.dll. Update drivers only when the error began alongside broader device failures, Windows input problems, or an application that depends on a particular hardware interface.
Use the official route first:
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Advanced options.
- Open Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates, if available.
- Install the relevant driver and restart.
You can also use Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
Do not remove an otherwise working device merely because imjputyc.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers are outdated, with scanning available before its full-version driver installation features; verify that a driver change is relevant before installing it.
Why regsvr32 is not the fix
Do not run:
regsvr32 imjputyc.dll
as a general repair step.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that this IME DLL should be manually registered. A registration error can create a second problem without restoring the missing Windows component.

Do not download imjputyc.dll from a DLL website
A loose DLL download can have the wrong:
- Windows generation
- architecture
- servicing level
- file version
- digital signature
- dependency set
It may also be modified or placed where Windows loads it before the genuine system component. That creates a DLL search-order hijacking risk and often leaves the original corruption unresolved.
Use Windows Update, Microsoft Language settings, DISM, SFC, System Restore, or the affected application’s official installer. Never copy a DLL from another PC unless you are following a controlled Microsoft repair procedure with a matching Windows source.
If the file exists but still will not load
A file’s presence does not prove that it is usable. Check the following:
- Path: It should be in an expected Windows IME directory, not a temporary folder or unrelated application directory.
- Architecture: A 32-bit application and 64-bit Windows may involve different system locations. Do not copy an x86 file into the 64-bit system location or reverse the process.
- Signature: Right-click the file, select Properties, open Digital Signatures, and inspect the signer. A Microsoft signature is useful evidence, but an unexpected path still requires investigation.
- Version: The filename alone is not enough. Microsoft records multiple legitimate versions across Windows releases.
- Dependencies: The loader may be reporting
imjputyc.dllwhile a dependent component is the actual failure. - Permissions: Security software or restrictive permissions may prevent loading.
- Calling executable: The program named in the error may be an old application, a Windows process, or an installer rather than the owner of the DLL.
Run DISM and SFC even when the file appears to exist. If SFC cannot repair it, review the CBS log and consider a matching Windows repair source or Windows recovery option.
Prevention
- Keep Windows fully updated.
- Avoid removing language features while Windows or an application is running.
- Use Windows Security Protection history before restoring quarantined files.
- Keep installers for older applications that depend on legacy input components.
- Do not use DLL download sites or random copies from another computer.
- Create restore points before major language, driver, or system changes.
- Investigate the executable and file path before assuming that the displayed application owns the DLL.
FAQ
Is imjputyc.dll a legitimate Windows file?
Yes. Microsoft lists Imjputyc.dll in Windows Japanese IME update inventories. A legitimate copy should still be checked for its path, architecture, signature, and version.
Is it part of Microsoft Office?
The evidence identifies it as a Windows Microsoft IME component. Do not assume that repairing Office will restore it. Repair Windows and the Japanese language feature first.
Should I replace it with a 32-bit copy?
No. Microsoft lists both x86 and x64 packages, and the correct file depends on Windows and the requesting process. A same-name file from another architecture can make the error worse.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Does Windows 11 normally need this exact file?
The file appears in Microsoft records across several Windows generations. Current installations may use different IME files or servicing layouts. Do not force an older copy into Windows 11.
Why does an old application request it?
The application may have been built around an older IME environment, may have a damaged installation, or may be reporting a dependent loader failure. Repair or reinstall that application if Windows text input works normally.
Will reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
Not normally. Those are not the primary repair sources for a Windows Japanese IME component.
What if Japanese input works but one program still fails?
Treat it as an application-specific problem. Repair or reinstall that program, verify its files through its official launcher, and check the executable and application directory named by the error.

When should I suspect malware?
Suspect a problem when the file is unsigned, modified, found outside an expected Windows IME location, or flagged by security software. Scan the system and do not restore the file merely because its filename is correct.
