acdcsymbolsres.dll is an Autodesk application resource file, not a normal Windows system DLL. If acdcsymbolsres.dll is missing, Windows is usually unable to start the Autodesk program that originally installed it.
The safest solution is to identify the affected Autodesk product and repair or reinstall that product from its original installation source. Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL or copying one into System32.
What is acdcsymbolsres.dll?
The file is described as dcsymbRes Resource DLL and is associated with Autodesk software. Public installation inventories identify it with Autodesk Map 3D 2007 and place it under an Autodesk application folder such as:
C:Program FilesAutodesk Map 3D 2007
Related inventories also associate similarly named files with older Autodesk Land Desktop and AutoCAD-era products. However, Autodesk does not provide a complete public manifest confirming every product and release that may contain this file.

A resource DLL normally supplies application resources, symbols, dialogs, or supporting data used by the main program. It is not normally launched by itself, and it is not a Windows component.
Common reported error messages
Users may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because acdcsymbolsres.dll was not found.”
- “The file acdcsymbolsres.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: acdcsymbolsres.dll.”
- “Error loading acdcsymbolsres.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because acdcsymbolsres.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Cannot find acdcsymbolsres.dll.”
- “Cannot register acdcsymbolsres.dll.”
These are common reported DLL error variants. The exact wording depends on the Autodesk executable, Windows version, and whether the file itself or one of its dependencies is missing.

Some third-party records describe a 32-bit file and provide a particular version and size, but those details should not be treated as universal specifications. A replacement must match the exact Autodesk product, release, architecture, and installation.
Fix 1: Identify which Autodesk program is failing
Before repairing anything, identify the executable that produces the error.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Close the error message.
- Note which shortcut you clicked.
- Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
- Look at the Target field.
- Record the product name and installation folder shown in the path.
- Open File Explorer and browse to that folder.
- Search inside the Autodesk installation directory for
acdcsymbolsres.dll.
You can also check installed products:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
text
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Look for Autodesk Map 3D, AutoCAD, Land Desktop, or another older Autodesk product.
If more than one Autodesk product is installed, repair the one whose shortcut or executable displays the error. Do not copy a DLL from a different Autodesk installation merely because the filename matches.
Fix 2: Repair the Autodesk installation
Repair is the best first fix because it restores missing application files without requiring you to find an individual DLL.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
text
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the affected Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change, Change, or Modify.
- Select Repair.
- Follow the installation wizard.
- Restart Windows when the process completes.
- Launch the Autodesk application again.
How to tell whether repair worked
Repair was successful if the application starts without the acdcsymbolsres.dll message and the file has returned to the product’s original installation directory.
If the repair wizard reports missing source files, cannot find the installer cache, or finishes without restoring the file, run the same maintenance process again and choose Reinstall instead.
For some newer Autodesk products, a repair option may not be available. In that case, uninstall the product and reinstall it using the official installer or an Autodesk Account download associated with your license.
Fix 3: Reinstall from complete, matching installation media
Reinstall the program when Repair does not restore the file or when the installation is visibly incomplete.
- Back up project files and custom Autodesk settings.
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the affected Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Reinstall, if offered.
- If no reinstall option exists, uninstall the product.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original Autodesk installer or a legitimate current installer.
- Complete setup using the same product family and architecture.
- Restart the computer and test the application.
For very old Autodesk releases installed from multiple discs or copied installation folders, make sure all required source files are available in the expected location. An incomplete copy of the installer can cause setup to finish without every application resource.
Do not mix files from different releases. A file from another AutoCAD-based product may have the same name but still be incompatible with the executable requesting it.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed or quarantined an Autodesk file. Check this before manually replacing anything.
Windows Security
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry referring to the Autodesk installation folder or
acdcsymbolsres.dll. - If the detection is clearly from the trusted Autodesk installation, review the available action.
- Restore the file only if you have confirmed that the installation is legitimate and the detection is a false positive.
- Run the Autodesk repair process afterward if the file remains missing.
Do not allow a file simply because its filename appears in a search result. If the file was detected as a threat, reinstalling the Autodesk product from verified media is safer than restoring an isolated binary.

If third-party antivirus software is installed, open its quarantine or history section and perform the same review.
Fix 5: Confirm the application architecture
Older Autodesk programs are often 32-bit applications, even when they run on 64-bit Windows. The application needs the DLL built for its own product and architecture.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the affected program’s installation folder rather than choosing a Windows folder based on whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. The correct copy normally remains with the Autodesk executable.
Do not place the file manually into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage locations for application DLLs. Copying an Autodesk resource file there can cause version conflicts and still leave the original application unable to find its matching file.
If you have a verified backup or original installation media, manual copying is reasonable only when all of the following are true:
- The file comes from the same Autodesk product and release.
- Its architecture matches the application.
- Its digital signature, version, and hash can be verified where applicable.
- It is copied into the exact Autodesk application directory.
Repair or reinstall remains safer.
Fix 6: Check whether a dependency is actually missing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that acdcsymbolsres.dll itself is absent. Windows can display this message when the named DLL exists but one of its dependent components cannot be loaded.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →First, run the Autodesk repair process. It restores the application’s expected files together and avoids guessing at dependencies.
If the message continues:
- Open the Autodesk installation directory.
- Confirm whether
acdcsymbolsres.dllexists. - Record the complete error text.
- Note the executable that displays it.
- Check whether other Autodesk DLLs are also missing.
- Reinstall the product from complete, matching media.
Do not install random Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET packages solely because a DLL error appeared. There is no file-specific evidence that acdcsymbolsres.dll belongs to those components.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows has wider problems
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore an Autodesk-owned application DLL, so use them when Windows itself is also malfunctioning or when the Autodesk installer is failing because of broader system corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Recommended Free Tools
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run Autodesk Repair or Reinstall again.
Success means DISM and SFC complete without an unrepaired-corruption result. If Windows reports that it repaired files but the Autodesk error remains, continue with Autodesk repair rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.
When manually checking Windows corruption is taking repeated scans and unclear results, Outbyte PC Repair can show what it identifies during its free scan; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling the Autodesk application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 8: Install Windows updates
Windows Update is not a source for acdcsymbolsres.dll, but keeping Windows current can resolve general installer and compatibility problems.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Autodesk repair or reinstall.
If the Autodesk release is very old, a current Windows version may not fully support it. If the error returns after a clean reinstall, check the product’s compatibility documentation or contact Autodesk support. Moving to a supported Autodesk release may be necessary.
Fix 9: Review drivers only when the failure is broader
A missing Autodesk resource DLL is not normally a graphics-driver problem. However, update drivers if the Autodesk application also crashes with display errors, Device Manager warnings, or failures across several graphics applications.

- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not use Device Manager to search for acdcsymbolsres.dll. Drivers do not provide this Autodesk application file.
When checking driver versions manually across graphics, chipset, and storage devices becomes difficult, Outbyte Driver Updater can identify outdated drivers with its free scan; driver installation is handled by the full version, but repairing or reinstalling Autodesk remains the correct fix for acdcsymbolsres.dll.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Standalone DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong Autodesk release
- The wrong architecture
- A modified or unsafe file
- A file with missing dependencies
- A replacement that hides the original installation problem
Even when the application starts afterward, the wrong binary can cause new loader errors or instability. Use the Autodesk installer, original installation media, a verified backup, or a legitimate Autodesk download instead.
Do not register this resource DLL
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A resource DLL is not automatically a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.
This command is therefore not a normal fix:
regsvr32 acdcsymbolsres.dll
It will not recreate a missing file, repair the Autodesk installation, or resolve a missing dependency. It may produce an entry-point error.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
The Autodesk program normally expects its application files in its own directory. System-wide copying can create conflicts and increases the chance that an unrelated program loads the wrong file.
Do not assume SFC fixes every DLL error
SFC and DISM are useful for Windows component corruption. They are not replacements for repairing a third-party application.

If the normal repair path fails
Use this order:
- Record the full error message and the executable that displays it.
- Search the Autodesk installation directory for the file.
- Check Windows Security Protection History and other antivirus quarantine areas.
- Run Autodesk Repair.
- Run Autodesk Reinstall.
- Reinstall from complete, legitimate installation media.
- Confirm that the old Autodesk release is compatible with the current Windows version.
- Consider System Restore only if the file disappeared after a known recent change and a suitable restore point exists.
If the old installer cache and original media are gone, do not substitute a DLL from another computer unless it is a verified matching copy from the same product installation. Obtaining fresh official installation media is the safer route.
Frequently asked questions
Is acdcsymbolsres.dll a Windows file?
No verified evidence shows that it ships with Windows, System32, or SysWOW64. It is associated with Autodesk application files.
Which Autodesk product uses it?
The strongest public association is Autodesk Map 3D 2007. Related third-party inventories also list similarly named files for older Autodesk Land Desktop and AutoCAD-era products, but Autodesk has not published a complete file manifest covering every release.
Should I download acdcsymbolsres.dll separately?
No. Repair or reinstall the Autodesk product that needs it. A standalone download may be incorrect, unsafe, or incompatible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I fix it with regsvr32?
Usually not. This is a resource DLL, not a DLL that should normally be registered. Use Autodesk Repair or Reinstall instead.
Is the problem caused by Windows 11?
Not necessarily. The file belongs to an Autodesk application. An old Autodesk release may also have compatibility problems on a newer Windows version, but the missing-file message alone does not establish that Windows caused the deletion.
What if the file exists but the error continues?
A dependency may be missing, the file may not match the application, or the installation may be damaged. Repair the complete Autodesk installation rather than copying individual files.
Should I run SFC and DISM first?
Only when Windows has other corruption symptoms or the installer itself is failing. For this specific error, Autodesk Repair or Reinstall is the more direct solution.
How do I know the fix worked?
The fix worked when the Autodesk program starts normally, the error no longer appears, and the matching DLL is present in the application’s own installation directory.
