Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” If mfcm100.dll is missing, Windows usually needs the Visual C++ 2010 MFC runtime or a repair of the application that installed it.
Which fix applies to you
Use this order:
- Only one program or game fails: Repair or reinstall that program first, then install the matching Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable if the error remains.
- A 32-bit application fails on 64-bit Windows: Install the x86 runtime. A 64-bit version of Windows does not replace the 32-bit runtime.
- Several older programs fail: Install or repair both Visual C++ 2010 SP1 packages, x86 and x64, from Microsoft.
- The file disappeared after an update or security alert: Check antivirus quarantine before reinstalling anything.
- The message says “specified module could not be found” even though the file exists: A dependency may be missing, or the DLL may have the wrong architecture or version.
- The error says “not designed to run on Windows” or “entry point not found”: Suspect a damaged, incompatible, or mismatched DLL rather than a simple missing file.
- Many Windows programs report DLL errors: Check Windows servicing, disk health, malware, and the user profile instead of downloading individual DLLs.
What mfcm100.dll is
mfcm100.dll is the Microsoft Foundation Class Managed Library retail DLL associated with the Visual C++ 2010, or VC++ 10.0, runtime. Its file description is commonly shown as “MFC Managed Library – Retail Version.”
The word “Managed” in that description does not make it a .NET assembly. This is a native Windows runtime library used by applications built with Microsoft Foundation Classes. It is not DirectX, a device driver, or a core file that every current Windows installation must contain.
The DLL may be installed by an application beside that application’s executable, or by the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable. Microsoft documents Visual Studio 2010 SP1 as VC++ 10.0 and provides separate x86 and x64 packages. Visual C++ 2010 is an older, unsupported runtime, but its redistributable remains relevant to legacy programs.

Microsoft’s file metadata identifies both 32-bit and 64-bit builds. Publicly reported versions include 10.0.30319.1, 10.0.40219.325, 10.0.40219.455, and 10.0.40219.473. These details identify possible builds; they are not a reason to download a loose DLL from a file archive.
What each error means
| Message | Most likely meaning |
|---|---|
| “mfcm100.dll is missing from your computer” | The application cannot find the DLL in its application folder or through the installed runtime. |
| “The code execution cannot proceed because mfcm100.dll was not found” | The loader could not locate the named DLL. |
| “Error loading mfcm100.dll. The specified module could not be found” | The DLL itself may be absent, or one of its dependencies may be absent. |
| “There was a problem starting mfcm100.dll” | The file may be damaged, incompatible, or unavailable to the application. |
| “mfcm100.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error” | Suspect corruption, wrong architecture, or an incompatible build. |
| “Entry point not found” | The file may exist but be the wrong version for the application. |
Windows wording varies between releases and applications, so the exact sentence is useful but not conclusive by itself.
Fix 1: Repair the affected application
When only one program fails, its own installer is the safest first repair. Some applications use a private copy of the MFC runtime in their installation directory rather than the copy installed globally.
From Windows Settings
- Close the affected program.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the program in the list.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the program on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and wait for it to finish.
- Start the program again.
If there is no Repair button, open the program’s own installer and look for Repair, Modify, or Reinstall.
Recommended Free Tools
From Control Panel
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected program.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall/Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If repair does not help, uninstall the program, restart the computer, and reinstall it from the original developer or publisher installer. Back up saved games and application data first if the program stores them in its installation folder.
If this is a game, use its launcher’s repair feature before reinstalling:
- Open the game launcher.
- Open the game’s properties, settings, or management menu.
- Select Verify integrity, Verify files, Scan and repair, or Repair.
- Let the launcher replace missing or damaged files.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
Fix 2: Install Visual C++ 2010 SP1 with the right architecture
Download the Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable only from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ 2010 SP1 download page. Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable documentation also explains the package versions and architecture requirements.
Install the package that matches the application, not simply the version of Windows:
- x86: required by 32-bit programs, including 32-bit programs running on 64-bit Windows.
- x64: required by 64-bit programs.
- Both packages: appropriate when you use a mixture of older 32-bit and 64-bit software, or when you are unsure which program architecture is failing.
To identify a program’s architecture, check its publisher documentation or installation folder. A 32-bit application is often installed under C:Program Files (x86), while a 64-bit application is commonly under C:Program Files. This is a useful clue, not a guarantee.
Run the downloaded Microsoft installer, accept the license terms, and select Install. If it reports that the runtime is already installed, open Installed apps or Programs and Features, select the relevant Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 entry, choose Modify, and select Repair.
Restart Windows after the repair and launch the affected program. If x64 was installed first and the error remains for a 32-bit application, install or repair x86 as well.

Why Visual C++ 2015–2022 may not fix it
Visual C++ redistributables are not one universal replacement package. The newer 2015–2022 family does not necessarily provide the older VC++ 2010 MFC DLL, and Visual C++ 2013 and earlier runtimes remain side by side.
Do not remove older runtimes merely because a newer one is installed. Legacy applications may require the exact runtime family against which they were built.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a legitimate runtime file, particularly after an application update or a change to the program’s installation directory.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected application or
mfcm100.dll. - Check the reported file path and detection details.
- If the application came from a trusted official source, restore the item only if you are confident it is legitimate.
- Repair or reinstall the application and the Microsoft runtime afterward.
- Run a full scan before launching the program again.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Do not add a broad exclusion for an entire drive or Windows system folder. A DLL in an application directory is not automatically malicious, but an unexpected path, an invalid Microsoft signature, or a newly appearing file deserves investigation.
Fix 4: Check the DLL and its dependencies without downloading a replacement
If mfcm100.dll appears to exist but the program still fails, do not copy another version over it. The application may need a missing dependency, a matching private DLL, or the correct architecture.

Check these locations:
- The application’s installation folder.
- The folder named in the error or application log.
- Event Viewer, under Windows Logs > Application, for an error at the launch time.
- Antivirus history for a removed dependency.
- The application’s repair or verification report.
“Specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency required by mfcm100.dll, not only to mfcm100.dll itself. An application developer or support technician may use a dependency-analysis utility to identify that missing component, but such utilities are not Microsoft repair tools.
If the message changes to “entry point not found,” reinstall the application’s own runtime or restore its private files through the official installer. If it says the file is not designed to run on Windows, repair both the application and the matching Visual C++ package.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker are appropriate when Windows servicing or protected system files are damaged. They do not normally restore a third-party application’s private copy of mfcm100.dll, so use them after repairing the application and Visual C++ runtime.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for DISM to complete. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after SFC finishes and test the application. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, repeat the application and runtime checks rather than copying a DLL from the internet.
When repeated manual DISM and SFC runs leave you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the problems it detects; its free scan shows the findings, while repair requires the full version, and reinstalling the affected program remains the definitive fix when its private files are damaged.

mfcm100.dll is not a driver, so Device Manager is not a primary fix. Use it when the application error began after a graphics, audio, capture, or other hardware change and Event Viewer identifies that device or driver.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean correction, obtain the driver from the hardware manufacturer or computer manufacturer. Do not assume a driver update will replace an absent MFC runtime.

When checking many devices manually becomes impractical, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers it identifies as stale; installation is handled by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the program that owns mfcm100.dll.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWhy you should not run regsvr32 mfcm100.dll
regsvr32 is intended for COM and ActiveX DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. mfcm100.dll is normally a runtime library, not a COM server.
Running this command is therefore not a routine repair:
regsvr32 mfcm100.dll
It commonly returns an error saying that the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. That does not install the Visual C++ runtime, restore dependencies, or repair the application.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Do not download mfcm100.dll from a random DLL site and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or the application folder. A loose file can have the wrong architecture, wrong version, damaged dependencies, or malicious modifications. It can also replace a private DLL that the application intentionally shipped.
Use the application’s official installer and Microsoft’s Visual C++ 2010 SP1 download page instead. If a controlled enterprise recovery requires a specific signed file, obtain it from a verified managed source and match its version and architecture exactly.
Prevention and final checks
After the error is fixed:
- Keep the affected application updated through its official launcher or installer.
- Keep both required Visual C++ architectures installed when using mixed 32-bit and 64-bit software.
- Do not remove older Visual C++ redistributables just because a newer family is present.
- Review antivirus quarantine after major application updates.
- Keep Windows updated and restart after servicing repairs.
- Avoid copying DLLs between computers or applications.
- If every program begins failing, investigate malware, disk health, Windows corruption, or a damaged user profile.
FAQ
Is mfcm100.dll part of Windows?
It is not a file that every current Windows installation must contain. It is associated with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 MFC runtime and may be installed by a particular application.
Do I need Visual C++ 2010 or Visual C++ 2010 SP1?
Use the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable unless the application vendor specifically requires another package. Install the architecture matching the failing application.
Why does x86 matter on 64-bit Windows?
A 32-bit application requires the 32-bit x86 runtime. Installing only x64 does not satisfy that dependency.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will Visual C++ 2015–2022 replace Visual C++ 2010?
Not necessarily. Older Visual C++ runtime families can be required side by side, so installing a newer package does not guarantee that mfcm100.dll will be supplied.
Can I fix the problem by registering the DLL?
Usually not. regsvr32 is for registerable COM and ActiveX components, while mfcm100.dll is normally a runtime library.
What if the file exists but the program still will not start?
Repair the application, confirm its architecture, check antivirus quarantine, inspect Event Viewer, and investigate missing dependencies. The named DLL may be present while another required module is absent or incompatible.
Should I run SFC for this error?
Run DISM followed by SFC when Windows components may be damaged. For a single application’s missing runtime, reinstalling the application and the matching Microsoft Visual C++ package is usually more relevant.
