Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallmslog.dll is a third-party application DLL, not a normal Windows system file. When Windows reports that mslog.dll is missing or could not be loaded, repair the older program that installed it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What mslog.dll belongs to
mslog.dll has been associated with older multimedia applications, including Mini-stream programs such as ASX to MP3 Converter, Easy RM to MP3 Converter, and Mini-stream RM-MP3 Converter. It has also appeared in older Wondershare products including Scrapbook Studio and DVD Slideshow Builder Deluxe.
These associations do not prove that every copy is identical. The file has no reliably documented publisher, product description, or current vendor download. Public metadata describes commonly indexed copies as 32-bit, but that information is not vendor-confirmed.
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File type | Application-private DLL |
| Windows component | No reliable evidence that it ships with Windows |
| Microsoft runtime | Not identified as part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET |
| Likely location | Beside the application executable |
| Publisher | Not reliably listed |
| Safe source | The original installer, repair function, or trusted backup for the same application |
The exact program named in the error matters. Do not assume that a copy from one old multimedia product will work with another.

Fix 1: Identify the application first
Before changing Windows, find the program that is trying to load the file.
Check the error and shortcut
Read the complete error dialog. It may identify the application, executable, or installation folder. If the error appears after launching a desktop shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Check the Target field.
- Note the executable name and folder shown in Start in.
Look for names associated with the affected program, such as ASX2MP3Converter.exe or RM2MP3Converter.exe. Do not treat those names as proof that every mslog.dll belongs to the same product.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the program that displays the error.
- Open its three-dot menu and select Advanced options, if available.
If you recently removed, cleaned, updated, or quarantined an old multimedia program, that event is a strong clue. The executable may remain while its private DLL has been deleted.
Check the installation directory
From the shortcut’s Target path, open the application folder in File Explorer. If mslog.dll is absent, the installation is incomplete. If it is present but the error says that a module could not be found, another dependency may be missing.
Do not copy a replacement into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the affected program
This is the most likely solution.
Use Windows repair
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Repair succeeds when the program opens without the mslog.dll message. If the error remains, return to the same screen and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove the program’s settings or local data.
Some older desktop installers do not expose Windows’ Repair option. In that case:
The Tool Desk

- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall, if offered.
- Choose Repair when available.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Reinstall from the original source
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Back up projects, presets, saved conversions, and other personal data created by the application.
- Uninstall the affected program from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the publisher’s original installer, trusted installation media, or an installer you previously verified.
- Start the program once before restoring custom settings.
The complete installer should place the matching DLL beside the application executable. Do not install a standalone mslog.dll from a file-collection website.
If the old program came from an unofficial repack, do not restore a DLL from that repack unless you trust the entire package. A damaged or modified installer can cause the same error again.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software may have removed an old unsigned multimedia DLL.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions for the affected program or
mslog.dll. - Expand an item to inspect its path and detection details.
Only restore the file when all of these are true:
- The file came from the same application’s trusted installer.
- You recognize the application and its installation path.
- The complete program is trusted.
- The detection is understood rather than simply ignored.
If you restore a quarantined file, repair or reinstall the complete application afterward if possible. Do not disable antivirus protection just to copy a random DLL. If Windows Security continues to quarantine the file, keep it blocked and obtain a clean installer from the software publisher or replace the obsolete application.
Fix 4: Check whether a dependency is actually missing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that mslog.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found mslog.dll but failed to load one of the libraries it requires.
First, confirm that mslog.dll exists beside the affected executable. If it does, do not replace it immediately. Instead:
- Note the full executable path and the exact error text.
- Run the application’s official repair process.
- Reinstall any runtime explicitly named by the application installer.
- Use a reputable dependency-analysis utility to inspect the executable and DLL.
- Look for a missing Microsoft runtime or another application-private library.
If the error names MSVCP*.dll, MSVCR*.dll, or VCRUNTIME*.dll, the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable may be relevant. Install the architecture required by the application from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. Installing a Visual C++ package will not create mslog.dll.
A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows normally uses its 32-bit private DLL from the application directory. Do not copy a 64-bit file into a 32-bit application folder, and do not assume that System32 means “32-bit.”

Fix 5: Run Windows component repair for wider corruption
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate an application-private mslog.dll, so use them when other Windows features are also failing or system files appear damaged.

- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the program after restarting. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the application repair rather than copying mslog.dll into a Windows folder. Microsoft’s System File Checker procedure provides the supported command sequence.
If you want a guided way to identify damaged Windows components instead of repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems; repair actions are provided by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that program.
Fix 6: Update or reinstall related drivers
A driver is not the normal source of mslog.dll, but old multimedia applications may also depend on audio, video, capture, or graphics components. Consider this step only when the program reports additional graphics, audio, or device errors.
Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
For a clean reinstall:
- In Device Manager, right-click the affected device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Select the removal option only if you have the correct replacement driver available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the driver from the computer or device manufacturer.
Do not uninstall a working device merely because mslog.dll is missing. Driver repair is secondary to repairing the application.
If identifying the correct driver across several hardware categories is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the specific application that supplied mslog.dll.
Fix 7: Check Windows Features for very old multimedia software
Some legacy programs expect Windows media components that are not enabled in a current installation.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review features related to legacy media or compatibility.
- Enable only a feature that the application’s documentation or installer specifically requires.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows.
Do not enable unrelated features as a guess. A missing mslog.dll is not normally repaired by turning on Windows Features, but an old multimedia program may have a separate media-component error after the DLL issue is fixed.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not start with:
regsvr32 mslog.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that support self-registration, commonly COM components exposing a registration entry point. An ordinary private runtime or multimedia library may not support that function. The command can produce an error without changing the missing-file condition.
Use regsvr32 only when the application’s documentation specifically identifies the DLL as a self-registering COM component and provides the correct registration procedure. Microsoft documents the command in its regsvr32 reference.
What not to do
- Do not download
mslog.dllfrom a random DLL download website. - Do not copy it into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not mix a copy from a Mini-stream application with a Wondershare application.
- Do not assume Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET owns this file.
- Do not register it repeatedly with
regsvr32. - Do not disable antivirus protection to force an unknown file into the application folder.
- Do not use SFC and DISM as a substitute for reinstalling the program that supplied the DLL.
A random replacement can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, export different functions, or depend on other missing files. Even a genuine same-named DLL may not be interchangeable.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Capture the exact dialog and record:
- The program and executable name.
- The full installation path.
- Whether
mslog.dllexists beside the executable. - The Windows version and whether the application is 32-bit.
- Whether the message says “missing,” “could not be loaded,” “entry point,” or “not designed to run on Windows.”
- Any error code, including
0xc000007b.
An “entry point” or “not designed to run” message usually indicates a mismatched DLL, damaged executable, incompatible dependency, or architecture problem rather than a simple missing file. Reinstall the exact application again from trusted media and avoid mixing files from different products.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf the application is too old for current Windows, try its Properties > Compatibility settings or replace it with supported software. System Restore is a fallback when the problem began after a recent removal or cleanup:
- Open Start.
- Search for Recovery.
- Select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore.

FAQ
Is mslog.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a standard Windows component. It is associated with older third-party multimedia applications.
Should I install Visual C++ to fix mslog.dll?
Only if the error separately names a Microsoft runtime or the application’s installer requires it. Visual C++ does not supply mslog.dll.
Can I copy mslog.dll from another computer?
Only if it came from the same application version and a trusted installer or backup. Copying a same-named file from another product can create new errors.
Should I put mslog.dll in System32?
No. A private application DLL normally belongs beside the executable that loads it.
Why does the file exist but Windows still report it as missing?
A dependency of mslog.dll may be missing, blocked, damaged, or built for the wrong architecture. The exact error text and dependency inspection are important.
What is the safest fix?
Identify the application, then repair or reinstall that complete application from its original installer, publisher media, or trusted backup.
