Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing files, note:
- Which program shows the error: an ASUS utility, hotkey overlay, or another application.
- When it appears: during Windows startup, sign-in, opening an ASUS utility, or launching another program.
- The exact wording: “missing,” “not found,” “specified module could not be found,” or “not designed to run on Windows.”
- Your ASUS model: record the complete model name, not just the brand.
- Windows architecture: open Settings → System → About and check System type.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallmetroinfo.dll is an obscure ASUS component associated with MetroInfo inside the older ATK Media portion of the ASUS ATK Package. It is not supported as a Windows system DLL, so the safest fix is to reinstall the correct ASUS package for your exact computer model rather than downloading the file or copying it into System32.
What the error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because metroinfo.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting metroinfo.dll.”
- “Error loading metroinfo.dll.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because metroinfo.dll was not found.”
- “metroinfo.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages usually mean that an ASUS utility still expects a component that was removed, quarantined, or incompletely installed. The phrase “specified module could not be found” has an additional meaning: metroinfo.dll may exist, but another DLL it needs may be missing.
The file has been reported in a location similar to:
C:Program FilesASUSATK PackageATK Mediametroinfo.dll
Public file metadata also reports it as a 32-bit ASUS file. Those path, version, size, and hash details are identification clues rather than universal ASUS specifications. Do not treat them as a reason to place a copy in a Windows directory.

Fix 1: Reinstall the ASUS package for your exact model
This is the most likely and safest repair.
Find the exact ASUS model
Use any of these methods:
- Look at the label on the underside of the notebook.
- Press Windows key + R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. - In System Information, read System Model.
- You can also check Settings → System → About.
If the computer was upgraded or Windows was reinstalled, use the model printed on the computer rather than guessing from the processor or product family.
Download the matching package
- Open the official ASUS Support website.
- Search for the complete model.
- Open the model’s Support or Driver & Utility page.
- Select your installed Windows version.
- Look under driver and utility categories for one of these names:
- ATK Package
- ATKPackage
- ASUS Keyboard Hotkey Driver (ATK Package)
- Download the package intended for that model and operating system.
- Extract the download if it is compressed, then run its setup program.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows, even if the installer does not insist on a restart.
Older ASUS notebooks may need ATK Package releases such as the ones listed on their model-specific support pages. Do not choose a release merely because its number is newer. ASUS packages vary by notebook generation and Windows version.
Newer systems may use ASUS System Control Interface V2 and ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys instead of ATK Package. If your model’s support page does not list ATK Package, use the hotkey and system-control drivers ASUS lists for that model.
Check whether it worked
After restarting:
- Open the program that produced the error.
- Press a few ASUS function keys if the problem involved hotkey indicators.
- Confirm that the error does not return at sign-in or startup.
If the installer says the package is already installed, continue with the repair steps below rather than downloading metroinfo.dll separately.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 2: Repair or reinstall the related ASUS utility
An ASUS utility may have been updated or removed while another ASUS component still expects metroinfo.dll.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for ASUS entries related to:
- Keyboard Hotkeys
- ATK Package
- ASUS System Control Interface
- ASUS utilities that appear in the error dialog
- Select the relevant entry and choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test again.

- Return to Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the affected ASUS utility.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the replacement package from the exact model’s ASUS Support page.
- Restart once more.
If the error names a non-ASUS program, reinstall that parent program after restoring the ASUS package. The named program may be loading the ASUS DLL indirectly.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a legitimate ASUS component. Restore it only after confirming that the file belongs to the ASUS installation and that the computer is not showing other malware symptoms.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
metroinfo.dllor the ASUS installer. - Expand the event and review its location and detection details.
- If it clearly came from the verified ASUS package, use Actions → Restore or Allow on device, when available.
- Run a fresh scan.
- Reinstall the ASUS package afterward if the file is still missing.
Do not restore a file from a temporary folder, a user profile download directory, or an unrelated application directory merely because its name matches.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They generally do not recreate a third-party ASUS DLL, but they can correct Windows corruption that prevents installers or dependent applications from working.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the model-specific ASUS package and test again.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart before testing. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. Do not expect these commands to supply metroinfo.dll from Microsoft.
If repeatedly hunting through installers and interpreting SFC/DISM results is slowing you down, Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan showing what needs attention; repair is performed by the full version, and reinstalling the ASUS package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 5: Install pending Windows updates and driver updates
Windows updates can resolve installer compatibility and dependency problems, but they do not replace the model-specific ASUS package.

- Open Settings → Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Return to Windows Update and check again.
For driver updates:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand System devices, Keyboards, and Software components.
- Look for an ASUS device with a warning icon.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Read the General tab and Driver tab.
- Do not use Browse my computer to point Windows at a random DLL.
- Use the ASUS model support page for the correct driver package.
If identifying which of several ASUS driver packages is stale is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show outdated drivers; the full version performs the driver installation, while the ASUS model-specific package remains the authoritative fix for metroinfo.dll.
Fix 6: Check for a missing dependency
If metroinfo.dll is present but Windows says the specified module could not be found, the missing item may be a dependency rather than the named file.
First, reinstall the ASUS utility and ATK-related package. Then inspect the full error message or Event Viewer:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the time the program failed.
- Read the Faulting application and Faulting module fields.
- Note any additional missing DLL name.
If the message specifically names VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or ucrtbase.dll, install the current Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft. Do not install Visual C++ merely because metroinfo.dll is missing.
If another ASUS DLL is named, reinstall the parent ASUS utility and the model-specific hotkey or ATK package together.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after uninstalling software, installing a driver, restoring a backup, or upgrading Windows.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Choose Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and start the process.
- Let Windows restart.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can roll back applications and drivers. Afterward, install current updates and the correct ASUS package if necessary.

Do not download or register the DLL manually
Avoid DLL download sites sites and random forum attachments. A downloaded file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to a different release, or leave the ASUS installation damaged. It may also mask the real problem while creating a new loader error.
Do not copy metroinfo.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through WOW64. That does not mean a 32-bit DLL should be manually placed in either Windows folder. The relevant match is the application and its ASUS package, not simply whether Windows is 64-bit.
regsvr32 is also not a routine solution. It applies to DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A missing ATK component should be repaired by reinstalling its package. Use regsvr32 only when the ASUS vendor documentation specifically instructs you to register that particular file.
If the file appears outside the ASUS folder
A copy in an unrelated application folder, a temporary directory, a startup location, or a user-profile download directory deserves closer inspection.

- Review the file location and creation context.
- Scan it with Windows Security.
- Compare it with the file restored by the official ASUS installer.
Do not assume that every file named metroinfo.dll is genuine. Conversely, do not delete a file solely because it is outside the reported path if an ASUS application deliberately keeps private components in its own installation directory. The owning program and the file’s origin matter.
Frequently asked questions
Is metroinfo.dll a Windows file?
There is no evidence that it ships with Windows, Windows Update, DirectX, .NET, or the generic Visual C++ runtime. It is associated with ASUS software, especially ATK Media in older ATK Package installations.

Which ASUS program installs it?
Public metadata associates it with MetroInfo and the ATK Media component of the ASUS ATK Package. The exact package name varies by model. Newer computers may use ASUS System Control Interface V2 and ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys instead.
Should I install an x86 or x64 copy?
Do not choose a standalone copy. Public metadata reports metroinfo.dll as 32-bit, and a 32-bit ASUS application can use it on 64-bit Windows. Install the package ASUS provides for the exact model and Windows version.
Can SFC repair it?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party ASUS components. Run DISM and SFC for Windows corruption, then reinstall the ASUS package for the missing component.
What if reinstalling ATK Package does not work?
Check Event Viewer for another missing dependency, repair or reinstall the parent ASUS utility, review Windows Security quarantine, install Windows updates, and confirm that you selected the exact model rather than a similar ASUS notebook.
When should I suspect malware?
Investigate further if the file is unsigned, has an unexpected location, is detected by Windows Security, or appears alongside unexplained startup entries. Do not restore a quarantined copy until its ASUS origin is verified.
