mfclibary.dll errors usually mean the program that installed this file is incomplete, damaged, or missing a required dependency. Before changing Windows, identify the application requesting mfclibary.dll and repair that application from its original installer.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Record these details before trying fixes:
- Which program or game shows the error? Read the title bar and the path shown in the message, if available.
- When did it begin? Check whether it followed an antivirus scan, update, disk cleanup, failed installation, or game modification.
- Is the affected program 32-bit or 64-bit? Public file metadata identifies
mfclibary.dllas a legacy 32-bit DLL. A 32-bit application needs a compatible 32-bit copy supplied by its own installer. - Where is the error shown? An error beside a game executable points to that game. An error from RAD Video Tools points to that package.
- Was the program installed from an official source? A crack, keygen, or file-sharing download changes the troubleshooting priority because the error may be fake or malware-related.
mfclibary.dll is associated with RAD Game Tools’ older Bink and Smacker software, including RAD Video Tools. It is not a normal Windows component, DirectX file, .NET file, or standard Microsoft Visual C++ runtime.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the program that owns the file
This is the most likely solution. Application DLLs normally belong beside the application that loads them, rather than in C:WindowsSystem32.
For a Steam game
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to complete the check.
- Restart Steam and launch the game again.
Steam may replace a missing or damaged game file. If the error remains, uninstall the game from Steam, restart Windows, and install it again.

For another application
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and test the application.
- If Repair is unavailable or does not work, select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the application again from its original publisher or reinstall it using the original trusted installer.
For RAD Video Tools, use the official RAD Video Tools package from RAD Game Tools. The vendor’s download page identifies its package as containing RAD Video Tools and Bink and Smacker utilities, but the public page does not list every DLL inside the archive.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if the original program starts without the mfclibary.dll message. If a new message names another DLL, that is useful evidence that the original file was restored and a secondary dependency now needs attention.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed or quarantined the file after the application was installed.
Windows Security
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any entry associated with the affected application.
- Confirm the file path and detected item before taking action.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The application came from a trusted publisher or store.
- The file was located inside the application’s installation folder.
- The installer is intact.
- Your security provider confirms the detection was a false positive.
If the file came from a crack, keygen, unofficial patch, or file-sharing download, do not restore it. Uninstall the program, run a full security scan, and reinstall the legitimate application.

F-Secure has documented malware that displayed a fake “Missing MFClibary.dll” message to make a malicious or cracked program appear legitimate. A suspicious source makes malware scanning more important than replacing the DLL.
Fix 3: Check the application architecture
The publicly catalogued mfclibary.dll file is listed as 32-bit. This matters even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
A 32-bit application generally loads its private DLLs from the application directory. Installing an unrelated 64-bit file cannot satisfy a 32-bit import. Do not assume that copying a file into System32 or SysWOW64 will fix the problem.
To identify the affected executable:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Start the affected program, if it opens far enough to appear.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading.
- Select Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if available.
- Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
You can also inspect the application’s installation folder and identify the executable named in the error. Keep application-specific DLLs with the application that installed them.

Fix 4: Repair Microsoft Visual C++ only when the error changes
mfclibary.dll is not identified as a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable file. Installing Visual C++ is therefore not the primary fix for this error.
It may help if the repaired application then reports a different missing file such as:
Rank #2
- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
mfc*.dllvcruntime*.dllmsvcp*.dll
When that happens:
- Open Microsoft’s official Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads page.
- Download the architecture required by the application.
- Install the x86 package for a 32-bit application.
- Install the x64 package for a 64-bit application.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
If you do not know which architecture the application uses, repairing the application first is safer than installing random runtime packages.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components if several programs fail
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They normally will not recreate an application-owned RAD DLL, so use them when multiple unrelated programs show system-file errors or Windows itself behaves incorrectly.

One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Successful DISM and SFC messages mean Windows found no remaining protected-component problem, or repaired one. They do not prove that mfclibary.dll was repaired. If the same application still reports the file, reinstall that application.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing which system component changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing reported system problems, while repair actions are handled by the full version; reinstalling the owning game or application remains the definitive fix for its private DLL.
Fix 6: Use Windows Features only for a clearly identified dependency
Windows Features is not a normal source for mfclibary.dll, but it can resolve an application that explicitly requires an older Windows compatibility component.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the available features.
- Enable only a feature named by the application’s documentation or error message.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Test the application.
Do not enable random features to obtain a DLL. If the application needs an older runtime, its official installer should normally provide it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 7: Update or reinstall drivers only when the failure involves graphics or hardware
A driver update is not a direct fix for a missing application DLL. Consider it only when the same program also crashes with display, audio, controller, or hardware errors.
Through Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean vendor update, download the driver from the computer, graphics-card, or device manufacturer. Do not use a driver package that does not match the hardware.
Manually checking several hardware categories and matching versions can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for reported driver issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version; a driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns mfclibary.dll.
Why you should not use regsvr32
Do not routinely register mfclibary.dll.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points, commonly COM or ActiveX components. A private codec or application-support DLL does not automatically need registration. Running a command such as:
regsvr32 mfclibary.dll
may produce “module loaded but entry point was not found” or “cannot register” errors. That does not mean Windows needs a different copy. It usually means registration is irrelevant.
Only use regsvr32 when the application’s official documentation specifically identifies a self-registering component and provides the correct file and command.

Why standalone DLL downloads are unsafe
Avoid websites offering individual copies of mfclibary.dll. A downloaded file may be:
- The wrong architecture.
- A different legacy build.
- Modified or malicious.
- Missing its own dependencies.
- Unsigned or impossible to verify.
- Placed in the wrong directory.
It may also hide the real problem, such as an incomplete installation or a quarantined group of files. The safe sources are the original game or application installer, the official store’s repair function, and the official RAD Video Tools package when RAD software is the affected product.
If the error persists after reinstalling
Identify the exact executable producing the message and check its installation directory.
Then:
- Confirm that the reinstall completed without errors.
- Check Windows Security Protection history again.
- Look for a second missing DLL named in a new error.
- Check Event Viewer by right-clicking Start and selecting Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs and select Application.
- Review errors recorded at the time of the failed launch.
- Contact the application publisher with the executable name, installation path, error text, and Windows version.
If the problem began immediately after a system change and a suitable restore point exists, System Restore may help. Press Windows key + R, type rstrui.exe, press Enter, and review the available restore points. System Restore can remove applications and settings added after the selected point.
Frequently asked questions
Is mfclibary.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows-shipped component. It is associated with older RAD Video Tools software and applications that bundled RAD technology.
Is it part of Microsoft Visual C++?
No. The name can look similar to Microsoft MFC files, but that does not make mfclibary.dll a Microsoft runtime file.
Which game needs this DLL?
No authoritative source reliably identifies one specific modern game. The correct owner is the program whose executable displays the error. Repair that program rather than guessing from the filename.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. Copying an application DLL into a Windows system folder can create version conflicts and still leave the owning application incomplete.
Does SFC restore this file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows components, not private third-party files. Reinstall the application that supplied mfclibary.dll.
What if antivirus removed it?
Check Protection history and the antivirus quarantine. Restore only when the file came from a trusted installer and the detection is confirmed as a false positive. Otherwise reinstall the application from its official source.
