Before changing Windows files, identify what is actually failing:
-
Which program shows the error?
i3inputdx.dllis associated with the Point Blank game family, including regional releases called Piercing Blow. If another application reports it, note that executable name too. -
When did the error begin?
Record whether it followed a game update, launcher migration, antivirus alert, disk cleanup, manual deletion, or an incomplete installation. -
Where is the game installed?
The correct copy ofi3inputdx.dllshould normally be in the affected game’s own installation folder, near its executable and related i3 engine files. Is Windows 64-bit?
That does not prove the game is 64-bit. Public listings mainly point to legacy 32-bit Point Blank clients, although the available evidence does not establish one architecture for every release.
Write down the complete error text before closing it. Reported variants include “i3inputdx.dll is missing,” “was not found,” “could not be located,” “error loading,” and “not designed to run on Windows.” These are loader symptoms, not proof that the file is a Windows component.
What i3inputdx.dll is
i3inputdx.dll appears to be a private DLL from the i3 game-engine file set shipped with Point Blank and Piercing Blow. It is commonly listed beside files such as i3BaseDx.dll, i3FrameworkDx.dll, i3GfxDx.dll, and i3NetworkDx.dll.
It is not a Microsoft Windows DLL, Visual C++ Redistributable file, .NET component, or standard DirectX system file. Public listings also do not establish a universal version number, file size, checksum, digital signature, or complete internal description. Different Point Blank distributions can contain different builds.

That distinction determines the repair. The correct source is the official game launcher or the applicable regional Point Blank publisher site associated with Zepetto. Downloading a similarly named DLL from a random website can provide the wrong build or architecture, introduce malware, and still leave the game with mismatched engine files.
Fix 1: Repair Point Blank through its official launcher
This is the most likely solution when the game recently updated, stopped launching, or lost one of its engine files.
- Close Point Blank and its launcher.
- Open Start, search for the Point Blank or Z-Launcher entry, and open the official launcher.
- If Windows displays a permission prompt, select Yes.
- Sign in if the launcher requires it.
- Look for a control named Update, Repair, Verify, Check files, or a similar file-validation option.
- Start the check and allow it to finish. Do not launch the game while the repair is running.
- Restart Windows, open the launcher again, and apply every available patch.
- Start the game from the launcher rather than from an old desktop shortcut.
The exact button names vary by regional client. The important part is that the launcher compares the installed game files with the publisher’s copy and restores the matching set.

If the launcher cannot repair the installation
A failed patch can leave i3inputdx.dll present but incompatible with the executable. An old launcher can also fail after a regional launcher migration.
Use this sequence:
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Point Blank, Piercing Blow, and any obsolete launcher entries.
- Uninstall the affected game and launcher components.
- Restart the computer.
- Download the current full client and launcher only from the official Point Blank/Zepetto regional website for your account and region.
- Install the launcher, then install the complete game through it.
- Run the launcher as administrator once: right-click its shortcut, select Properties, open Compatibility, select Run this program as an administrator, choose Apply, and then OK.
- Let the launcher finish its updates before starting the game.
Do not copy i3inputdx.dll from another computer, another Point Blank region, an old backup, or a different release. The executable and private engine DLLs can be version-coupled.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before reinstalling
Security software can remove or quarantine a game DLL after an update, even when the file was installed by the legitimate client. Check quarantine before repeatedly reinstalling the game.
Windows Security
- Open Start, search for Windows Security, and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand recent entries and look for an event involving
i3inputdx.dllor the Point Blank installation folder. - Confirm the detection name and the file path.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions apply:
- The file was inside the legitimate Point Blank installation directory.
- The game came from the official regional launcher.
- The detection is clearly identified as a quarantine or possible false positive.
- You have checked the publisher’s support guidance and are not restoring a file from an unexpected directory.
After restoring it, update the game through the official launcher. Do not simply create a permanent exclusion for the entire drive. If the detection is severe, the path is unusual, or other suspicious files are present, leave the file quarantined, run a full Windows Security scan, and reinstall the game from its official source.
To add a narrowly scoped exclusion only when you understand the risk:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Manage settings.
- Scroll to Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions, and approve the prompt.
- Add only the verified game folder if the publisher or security vendor specifically recommends it.
Remove the exclusion after the game has been repaired if it is no longer needed.

Fix 3: Separate the game DLL error from Visual C++ errors
i3inputdx.dll is not itself a Visual C++ runtime file. Installing Visual C++ will not recreate this private Point Blank DLL.
Visual C++ repair is relevant only when the complete error also names a Microsoft runtime such as:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
VCRUNTIMEMSVCPapi-ms-win-crt
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable package for the architecture named by the application. A legacy 32-bit game generally needs the x86 package, even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing only the x64 package does not replace 32-bit runtime files.
After installing or repairing the runtime, restart Windows and try the game again. If the message still specifically names i3inputdx.dll, return to the launcher repair or complete reinstall. Do not expect Visual C++ to supply it.
Fix 4: Do not copy the file to System32 or register it
Copying a private game DLL into System32 or SysWOW64 is not a valid repair. It can make Windows load the wrong copy for another program and can hide the real problem: a damaged or mixed game installation.
Do not run:
regsvr32 i3inputdx.dll
regsvr32 is intended for registerable COM or ActiveX DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A game runtime DLL loaded privately by the Point Blank executable normally does not need registry registration. If a publisher explicitly identifies a component as registerable and provides the exact command, follow that instruction; it does not generally apply to i3inputdx.dll.

- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the game again.
The Microsoft-recommended order is DISM first, then SFC. If both complete successfully but Point Blank still reports the missing file, repair or reinstall Point Blank rather than repeating the commands.
When manually comparing Windows components and repeating SFC/DISM becomes time-consuming, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling Point Blank remains the definitive fix for this game-owned DLL.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when the evidence points there
A missing i3inputdx.dll is not normally a graphics-driver repair problem. Consider drivers only when the file exists, the launcher passes its file check, and the game still crashes with an access violation or graphics/input symptoms.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the listed graphics adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Also inspect Human Interface Devices, Keyboards, and Mice if the crash occurs during input detection.
- Restart Windows and test Point Blank.
For a clean graphics-driver update, use the graphics hardware manufacturer’s official driver package rather than copying DLLs into the game folder. Do not use compatibility mode or administrator access as a substitute for a missing game file.
Manually checking each device, identifying stale versions, and repeating driver installs can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues; its free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the affected game remains the definitive repair for i3inputdx.dll.
Fix 7: Check optional Windows features only if the installer requests them
Do not enable random Windows features to solve this DLL error. If the official game installer specifically reports a legacy component requirement:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeaturesand press Enter. - Review the feature named by the installer.
- Select it, choose OK, and restart if Windows requests one.
Legacy DirectX components may be relevant to an older game only when the official installer or a separate error identifies them. They do not contain i3inputdx.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the file exists but still will not load
A present file can still fail because it is damaged, belongs to another release, or depends on another missing library.
Check these items in order:
- Run the launcher’s file check again.
- Confirm the game starts from its real installation directory.
- Read the full error for a second missing DLL.
- Remove unofficial patches, mods, overlays, and files copied from another region.
- Check antivirus history again.
- Verify that the account has permission to read the game folder.
- Check whether Controlled folder access or other security software blocked the launcher.
- Look for disk errors if files repeatedly disappear after repair.
- Perform a clean official reinstall.
A “not designed to run on Windows,” entry-point, or access-violation message often indicates a corrupt or mismatched build rather than a simple missing-file problem. Replacing one DLL rarely corrects that mismatch.

What to send Point Blank support
If a clean reinstall fails, collect:
- The exact executable name shown in the error
- The complete error text
- The game’s installation path
- Your regional Point Blank client
- Whether the file exists after installation
- Launcher or game logs
- The antivirus detection name and quarantine path
- Whether the launcher file check reports an error
- Your Windows edition and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit
Send those details through the applicable official Zepetto or regional Point Blank support channel. A DLL with the expected name in an unexpected folder should also be treated as suspicious and scanned before launching.
FAQ
Is i3inputdx.dll a Microsoft file?
No. Available evidence associates it with the proprietary Point Blank/Piercing Blow game files, not Windows, Visual C++, .NET, or a standard Microsoft DirectX system component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is it safe to download this DLL separately?
No separate download is the safe repair. Use the official launcher or reinstall the complete game from the correct regional publisher source. The filename alone cannot prove authenticity.
Should I place it in System32?
No. Keep the game DLL in the game’s own installation directory. There is no reliable evidence that it belongs in System32 or SysWOW64.
Is every copy 32-bit?
No universal architecture is established. Public legacy listings point mainly to 32-bit game clients, but a 64-bit Windows installation does not determine the game DLL’s architecture.
Will Visual C++ fix the error?
Only if the error also names a missing Microsoft runtime DLL. Visual C++ does not provide i3inputdx.dll.
