Repair or reinstall the exact PhotoImpact release from its original installer or legitimate media, and do not copy a random DLL into System32.
What this file actually does
autoenh.dll is an application-specific library associated with Ulead PhotoImpact. Public installation inventories associate it with PhotoImpact releases including 7, 8, 10, 11 and X3/13.
It is not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft runtime, graphics driver, or DirectX component. Its normal location is beside the PhotoImpact executable or inside a PhotoImpact program subfolder, commonly under a path similar to:
C:Program Files (x86)CorelPhotoImpact X3
The exact version and size depend on the PhotoImpact release. Do not assume that a file from PhotoImpact 8 belongs in PhotoImpact X3, or that one catalogued copy is correct for every installation. Older PhotoImpact versions are generally 32-bit, even when installed on 64-bit Windows.

Fix 1: Identify the PhotoImpact installation
Before replacing anything, confirm which program is requesting the file.
- Right-click the shortcut that displays the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target.
- Note the executable and folder path.
- Open that folder in File Explorer and search for
autoenh.dll.
Also check whether the message appears when launching PhotoImpact, running an old shortcut, or uninstalling the program. An old shortcut can point to a program folder that no longer exists.
If the file is present beside the correct PhotoImpact executable, do not immediately download another copy. The message may mean that a dependency cannot load, or that Windows is blocking access to the file.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove an old application file after a definition update. Restore a file only when the PhotoImpact installation and its source are trustworthy.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
autoenh.dllor the PhotoImpact folder. - Open the entry and review the detection details.
- If the installation is legitimate and the detection is clearly a false positive, choose Actions → Restore.
- Run Virus & threat protection → Scan options → Full scan.
If Protection history shows that the file was removed but you cannot verify the installer, do not restore it. Reinstall PhotoImpact from trusted original media instead. A correct filename does not prove that a DLL is safe.
If Windows Security immediately quarantines the file again, stop trying to restore it manually. Update Windows Security, scan the installer, and obtain a clean copy of the complete PhotoImpact installation.

Fix 3: Repair PhotoImpact from its original installer
This is the most likely fix for autoenh.dll missing errors.
- Locate the original PhotoImpact setup program or installation disc.
- Run the installer.
- If Windows asks for permission, select Yes.
- Choose Repair, Modify, or a similarly named maintenance option if offered.
- Keep the existing installation folder and complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch PhotoImpact from its repaired shortcut.
A successful repair restores the matching application files to the PhotoImpact directory. It should not place autoenh.dll in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
If the installer does not offer Repair:
- Back up your
.UFOfiles and other personal PhotoImpact documents. - Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Ulead PhotoImpact or Corel PhotoImpact.
- Select the three-dot menu → Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when the removal completes.
- Run the original installer again.
- Install the same release, if possible, rather than mixing files from different versions.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not delete the program folder first. Manual deletion can remove uninstall information while leaving shortcuts and registry entries behind.
Fix 4: Use compatibility settings on Windows 10 or 11
Reinstalling the file will not solve every startup problem. An older PhotoImpact release may also need compatibility help.
Microsoft’s Program Compatibility Troubleshooter can test settings for obsolete desktop applications.
On current Windows versions:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- Select Other troubleshooters.
- Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
- Select Run.
- Choose PhotoImpact from the list, or browse to its executable.
- Follow the recommended test steps.
- Launch PhotoImpact when prompted.
You can also right-click the PhotoImpact executable, choose Properties, open the Compatibility tab, and select Run this program in compatibility mode for. Test one setting at a time and apply it only if PhotoImpact starts correctly.

Compatibility mode can address broader startup failures, but it cannot recreate a missing autoenh.dll. Repair the installation first.
Fix 5: Check permissions and the exact loader path
If autoenh.dll exists but Windows still reports that it cannot load, verify that PhotoImpact is using the folder you inspected.
- Right-click the PhotoImpact shortcut and select Properties.
- Compare the Target path with the folder containing
autoenh.dll. - Right-click the executable and select Run as administrator for a test.
- If that works, right-click it again → Properties → Compatibility.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if needed and appropriate.
“A specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency of autoenh.dll, not necessarily to autoenh.dll itself. Reinstalling the complete matching PhotoImpact release is safer than hunting for individual dependency files.
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET solely because this application DLL is missing. Use a Microsoft runtime only when the complete error names a Microsoft runtime DLL or the PhotoImpact installer explicitly requires it. If that happens, use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads and match the package architecture to the application.

Fix 6: Do not use System32 or regsvr32
autoenh.dll belongs with PhotoImpact. Copying it into a Windows directory can cause Windows to load the wrong file and does not repair the installation.
regsvr32 is also generally irrelevant. Microsoft documents Regsvr32 as a utility for registering DLLs that provide the required registration entry points. It does not restore missing files and does not make an ordinary PhotoImpact library compatible.

Manual copying is reasonable only when recovering the exact file from the same trusted installer or a verified backup. Place it in the original PhotoImpact directory, not in a system folder, and prefer reinstalling the complete application.
Avoid random DLL download sites websites. They may provide the wrong PhotoImpact release, wrong architecture, altered files, or malware, and a replacement DLL often leaves the damaged installation or missing dependency untouched.

System File Checker repairs protected Windows components. It normally does not reconstruct a third-party PhotoImpact DLL, so use it when you also have Windows crashes, damaged system files, update failures, or other operating-system symptoms.
- Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test PhotoImpact again.
Microsoft provides the full SFC and DISM procedure. If these commands report repaired Windows files but PhotoImpact still shows the same error, repair or reinstall PhotoImpact. SFC is not a substitute for the program’s installer.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed makes diagnosis harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what it identifies, while repairs are performed by the full version; reinstalling PhotoImpact remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Fix 8: Check drivers only for broader graphics problems
A driver update is not the primary remedy for a missing autoenh.dll. Consider drivers only if PhotoImpact also shows display corruption, crashes across multiple graphics applications, or Device Manager reports a problem.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties and inspect the General tab.
- If Windows reports a problem, open the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test PhotoImpact.
Do not remove a working driver merely because autoenh.dll is missing. If the error remains after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the shortcut targets the newly installed executable, not an abandoned copy.
- Search for multiple PhotoImpact folders and remove stale shortcuts.
- Check Event Viewer: right-click Start → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the same time as the failed launch and note the named executable or dependent module.
- Test PhotoImpact under a clean Windows user profile.
- Check file and folder permissions if the application is installed in a restricted location.
- Run a full malware scan if unexpected copies of
autoenh.dllappear in unrelated folders. - If the problem began after a known system change, consider System Restore after backing up personal files.
If the error appears only during uninstall, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps or run the original PhotoImpact installer and choose its removal option. Do not erase the application folder as the first step.

Is autoenh.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Ulead PhotoImpact and should normally remain in the application’s own directory.
Which PhotoImpact version do I need?
Use the release already installed, such as PhotoImpact 7, 8, 10, 11 or X3/13. Do not mix a DLL from another release because the files are not universal.
