What cnbjop9b.dll is
Public file records associate cnbjop9b.dll with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software and the legacy prnca00b.inf printer-driver package. It may appear alongside other Canon files in the Windows Driver Store, sometimes under a path resembling:

That example does not mean every installation uses the same folder. The exact path depends on Windows, the driver architecture, and the Canon package installed.
The filename alone cannot identify the exact Canon printer model. Older Canon inkjet packages, including packages associated with the iP2600 series, are linked to this file in public driver inventories, but that does not prove every affected computer uses that model.

Some third-party databases label this file as a Windows 7 or Microsoft system file, while others identify it as Canon software. That conflict is one reason not to trust a random replacement file. Check the original path, digital signature, and installed printer package before deciding whether a file is genuine.
Why the error appears
The error usually means a Canon printer driver is incomplete, damaged, removed, or incompatible with the current Windows installation. Common triggers include:
- Removing a Canon printer while leaving its utility or driver behind
- A Windows update changing or cleaning the Driver Store
- A failed Canon driver installation
- Antivirus quarantine
- A partially removed printer package
- A 32-bit and 64-bit driver mismatch
- A stale Canon utility launching at Windows startup
- Corruption in Windows servicing components
- A printer driver that is too old for the current Windows release
The point at which the message appears is useful. An error while printing or adding a printer points toward the printer package. An error when opening a Canon utility points toward that utility. An error at every startup often means a stale startup entry or scheduled task still references the old driver.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution when you still use the printer.

1. Identify the printer model
Check the label on the printer, its original documentation, or an existing entry in Windows:
- Press Windows + I.
- Open Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note the Canon printer name and model.
Do not guess the model from cnbjop9b.dll. If several Canon devices are listed, identify which one produces the error.
2. Remove the existing printer
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
If the printer cannot be removed, open Control Panel, select View devices and printers, right-click the Canon printer, and choose Remove device.
For a deeper cleanup:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
printui /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Canon driver on the Drivers tab.
- Choose Remove.
- Select Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that choice.
Do not remove a driver used by another working printer unless you have confirmed it belongs to the obsolete Canon package.

3. Install the correct package
Go to Canon’s official support and downloads page, search for the exact printer model, and select the correct Windows version and architecture. Download the complete printer driver or software package rather than a standalone DLL.
Run the installer, preferably by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator. Connect the printer when the installer requests it, then add the printer again through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
The repair worked if the installer completes without the DLL error, the printer appears with the correct model name, and a test page prints.
If the Canon page does not provide a compatible driver for Windows 10 or Windows 11, use Windows Update instead:

- Open Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install a suitable Canon printer driver if one is listed.
- Restart Windows and add the printer again.
Microsoft also recommends selecting the exact printer model and Windows architecture when installing printer drivers through its printer-driver guidance.
Manually hunting through old packages and matching architecture can be tedious, especially when Windows retains several printer versions. Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A security product may remove a damaged or suspicious copy of the DLL. Do not immediately restore it.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
cnbjop9b.dll. - Note the original file path, detection name, and publisher information.
- Run a full scan.
A file inside a Canon driver directory and signed by Canon is less suspicious than an identically named file in a temporary folder, a game directory, or an unfamiliar application folder. If the file is unsigned, has an unexpected publisher, or was found outside the printer-driver package, leave it quarantined until the installation is investigated.
The safest recovery is usually to remove the old driver and reinstall a clean package from Canon or Windows Update rather than restoring the quarantined DLL manually.

Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when Windows reports broader component corruption, a driver installation fails repeatedly, or several protected system files are also producing errors. They do not replace a missing third-party Canon driver.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft specifies DISM before SFC because DISM can provide the component files SFC needs for repair.
Possible results include:
- No component store corruption detected: Windows servicing may be healthy; return to the Canon driver reinstall.
- The restore operation completed successfully: Restart Windows, then reinstall or update the Canon driver.
- SFC found and repaired corrupt files: Restart and test printing.
- SFC found corrupt files but could not repair some: Run DISM again after installing pending Windows updates, restart, and run SFC once more.
Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows repair issues when repeatedly running SFC and DISM does not show what changed; its repair requires the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Canon package.
If DISM cannot repair the image, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source with /Source and /LimitAccess. Do not substitute an unrelated Windows image, because mismatched source files can create additional servicing problems.
Fix 4: Check the driver architecture
An old printer package may contain 32-bit or 64-bit components. A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows, so the architecture of the computer alone does not identify which copy belongs to the failing program.
Check Windows architecture:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Open About.
- Read System type.
Then select the architecture shown for the printer model on Canon’s support page. Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit driver directory, or the reverse. A mismatched file can produce errors such as “not designed to run on Windows” and can prevent the printer driver from loading.
If Windows retains several Canon packages:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
printui /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Review the Drivers tab.
- Remove only obsolete Canon entries that are no longer used.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct package again.
Fix 5: Use Device Manager to refresh the printer driver
Device Manager is useful when Windows detects the printer but reports a driver problem.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Universal Serial Bus controllers, depending on how the printer connects.
- Right-click the Canon device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current Canon package or use Windows Update to detect the printer.
If the printer is not listed, choose View > Show hidden devices and check for an old, greyed-out Canon entry. Hidden entries can represent disconnected hardware, so remove one only when you are certain it belongs to the obsolete printer.
A successful refresh results in a correctly named Canon device without a warning icon. Print a test page after installation.

Fix 6: Reset a damaged spooler or printer configuration
If the DLL error appears while printing and jobs are stuck, the printer configuration or Print Spooler state may also be damaged.
First try the built-in troubleshooter:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose Troubleshoot.
- Open Other troubleshooters.
- Run Printer.
- Follow the suggested repair steps.
If print jobs remain stuck:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Right-click Print Spooler.
- Select Stop.
- Open:
C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS
- Delete the files inside that folder, not the folder itself.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler.
- Select Start.
- Reinstall the Canon printer if the error continues.
You may need administrator permission. Microsoft’s printer troubleshooting guidance also covers removing and reinstalling a printer connection.
Fix 7: Remove stale Canon startup entries
If the message appears immediately after signing in, but printing works, a removed Canon utility may be calling the missing DLL.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable an old Canon utility that refers to the removed printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Test whether the message returns.
Also check Settings > Apps > Startup and Task Scheduler for Canon entries. In Task Scheduler, inspect the task’s action before disabling it. Do not disable unrelated Windows tasks.
If you no longer own the printer, uninstall the obsolete Canon software from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, remove its printer and driver package, and restart. Restoring the DLL is unnecessary when no remaining device needs it.
Should you run regsvr32?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the COM registration entry point DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable evidence that cnbjop9b.dll is a self-registering COM DLL. It is associated with a printer-driver package, so registration is not the normal repair method.

may produce an error saying that DllRegisterServer was not found. That does not mean the file needs to be downloaded again. Reinstall the complete Canon driver instead.
What not to do
Do not download cnbjop9b.dll from a random DLL download website or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application folder. A downloaded file can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, have a different build, lack a valid signature, or leave the original broken driver untouched.

Do not use Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX installers, or .NET repair tools unless the actual error also identifies one of those components. cnbjop9b.dll is associated with a Canon printer driver, not a general-purpose Microsoft runtime.
Do not assume SFC repaired the Canon package. SFC can repair protected Windows components while leaving a missing third-party driver unchanged.

Run DISM and SFC, check Windows Update, verify the architecture, remove stale printer-driver entries, and inspect the application named in the error. If the printer is unsupported on your Windows version, remove the obsolete package or use a compatible driver supplied through Windows Update.
What if Windows reports that the file is not designed to run on Windows?
Treat that as an architecture mismatch or corrupted binary. Remove the existing Canon package and install the complete driver intended for your Windows version. Do not replace only the named DLL.
