Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →cnb_0328.dll is associated with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software, not with Windows, DirectX, .NET, or a Microsoft runtime. If Windows says the file is missing or could not be loaded, reinstall the Canon driver package for the exact printer model instead of downloading an isolated DLL.
What this file actually does
A DLL is a shared library that an application or driver loads when it needs specific functions. cnb_0328.dll belongs to the Canon printer-driver category and is used by software installed with a Canon inkjet printer.
Public file records attribute the component to CANON INC. and describe it as part of Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software. Those records identify it as a 32-bit DLL, but they do not establish one universal version, size, hash, or exact printer model. Canon distributes printer software by model, commonly as a printer driver or MP Drivers package, rather than as a standalone cnb_0328.dll download.
The same filename can appear in different Canon package copies or builds. The correct location is therefore determined by the Canon installer, not by the filename alone.

A copy is not automatically safe just because its name is correct. If you find it outside a Canon driver installation, check its full path, file properties, digital signature, and security history before allowing it to run.
Causes by symptom
| Error or symptom | Usual meaning | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| “cnb_0328.dll is missing” | A Canon component was deleted, quarantined, or incompletely installed | Reinstall the exact Canon printer package |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The DLL or one of its dependencies is unavailable | Reinstall the package and inspect the calling program |
| “The procedure entry point could not be located” | A mismatched or incompatible Canon DLL was loaded | Remove the old package and install the correct model-specific driver |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” | The file is damaged, incompatible, or the wrong architecture | Replace it through the official installer |
| Error appears at startup after removing a printer | A Canon utility or startup entry still points to the old driver | Remove the remaining Canon software or startup reference |
| Windows sees the printer but printing fails | The print driver or print subsystem is inconsistent | Remove and re-add the printer, then install the current driver |
| Antivirus reports the DLL | The file may have been quarantined, altered, or falsely detected | Review protection history and prefer a clean Canon reinstall |
Fix 1: Reinstall the Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution for cnb_0328.dll errors.
Before starting, identify the exact printer model from the printer label, its existing Windows entry, or the original purchase documentation. Do not select a similar model or a generic Canon driver if the model-specific package is available.
Remove the printer from Windows
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove or Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
Remove Canon software
- Return to Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the Canon model name, Canon MP Drivers, or Canon printer software.
- Select the relevant entry.
- Choose the three-dot menu, select Uninstall, and follow the prompts.
If you use an older Windows interface, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the Canon driver or printer utility, and choose Uninstall.
Recommended Free Tools
Restart Windows after the uninstall. This releases files that may still be held by the print spooler or a Canon background utility.
Install the current package
- Open Canon’s official support page in your browser.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select the matching Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition offered for your system.
- Download the current driver or MP Drivers package.
- Run the downloaded Canon installer.
- Follow its connection instructions. Connect the USB cable only when the installer requests it, or select the correct wireless printer when prompted.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer and choose Print test page from its printer properties.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the original application no longer reports cnb_0328.dll. If the same error remains, note the complete error text and continue with the diagnostic steps below rather than copying a DLL manually.
Manually checking every installed driver and finding the correct package can be tedious, especially when several old Canon entries remain. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the problem, while driver installation through the full version is optional, and the exact Canon model-specific package remains the safest source.
Fix 2: Remove an old Canon startup entry
Sometimes the printer has already been removed, but a Canon utility still launches when Windows starts. That utility then requests cnb_0328.dll, producing a missing-file dialog even though you no longer use the printer.

Check startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Canon entry associated with the removed printer.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup entry prevents it from launching, but it does not remove the underlying software. To clean it up, return to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and uninstall the related Canon utility.
Do not disable an entry merely because it contains the word Canon. Confirm that it belongs to the old printer installation. If the error identifies a particular executable, record that filename before disabling anything.
If the printer is still needed, do not stop at disabling startup. Reinstall the current Canon package instead.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine a Canon DLL after detecting a suspicious modification, or it may remove a file during an incomplete installation.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry mentioning
cnb_0328.dll, Canon software, or the printer installer. - Review the detected file path and reason.
Restore the file only when the entry clearly belongs to the Canon installation you trust and the path matches the rest of that installation. Do not restore an unexplained copy from a temporary folder, a downloads directory, or an application unrelated to the printer.
The safer approach is usually to remove the damaged Canon package and reinstall it from Canon’s official support page. Run a current security scan if the file was found in an unexpected location or if its signature cannot be verified.
To inspect a file manually, right-click it, select Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab when available. A missing signature does not by itself prove malware, but an unexpected path, unknown publisher, or newly appearing copy deserves investigation.

Fix 4: Select the correct architecture and Windows package
A 32-bit Canon DLL can be part of a 32-bit printer package even when Windows itself is 64-bit. That does not mean you should copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

On 64-bit Windows, System32 commonly contains 64-bit system files while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit compatibility files. A third-party printer DLL belongs wherever the Canon driver package installs it.
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Choose the exact printer model and Windows version on Canon’s support page. On an ARM-based Windows device, a manufacturer installer may have compatibility limitations. Microsoft recommends adding the printer through Windows printer settings when a manufacturer installer does not work correctly.
If the installer says the package is incompatible, stop using that package. Remove it, restart Windows, and select the correct model and operating-system option.
Fix 5: Reinstall through Device Manager
Device Manager can help when Windows retains a damaged or stale printer driver.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the Canon printer.

- If Windows offers an option to remove the driver package, select it only when you are intentionally cleaning the old Canon driver.
- Confirm the uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect or re-add the printer through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
Windows may install a compatible driver automatically. If it does not, use the model-specific Canon package instead.
A generic driver may restore basic printing but not scanning, status monitoring, maintenance, or other Canon features. If those functions matter, install Canon’s complete package for the exact model.

Fix 6: Check Windows components with DISM and SFC
cnb_0328.dll is associated with a Canon driver, so Windows system repair is not the primary fix. Use DISM and System File Checker when Windows shows broader problems, such as damaged built-in applications, repeated system-file errors, update failures, or several unrelated DLL errors.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files against that store. Neither command is guaranteed to restore a third-party Canon DLL. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the printer again. If the Canon error remains, return to the Canon driver reinstall procedure.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not use regsvr32 as a general fix
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is mainly relevant to ActiveX and COM components that are designed to be registered.
There is no verified evidence that cnb_0328.dll is a self-registering ActiveX or COM DLL. A printer-driver component should normally be installed through Canon’s driver installer and its associated package files.
Do not run this as a routine repair:
regsvr32 cnb_0328.dll
If you receive an error from regsvr32, it does not prove that the DLL is missing or that registration is the solution. It usually means the file is not intended to be registered that way, or that the command is using the wrong path or architecture.

Do not download the DLL separately
Avoid DLL download sites and automated DLL download sites utilities that offer a replacement cnb_0328.dll. A replacement can contain malware, belong to the wrong Canon package, use the wrong architecture, or hide the real problem, such as a missing dependency or stale startup entry.
Do not copy the file into System32, SysWOW64, an application folder, or a Canon folder based only on its name. Let the official Canon installer place the correct files.

If the error still appears
Collect these details before attempting further repairs:
- The exact error text
- The full path shown for
cnb_0328.dll, if available - The executable or application named in the error
- The exact Canon printer model
- Your Windows edition, version, and system type
- Whether the error appears at startup, during printing, or when opening a particular program
- Any related entry in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
“The specified module could not be found” may refer to a dependency of cnb_0328.dll, not necessarily the DLL itself. A startup dialog from an unknown executable may indicate leftover Canon software rather than a printer currently in use.
If the printer is no longer owned or supported, remove its Canon software and printer entry completely. If the problem began immediately after a driver update or removal, System Restore can be considered as a last-resort rollback, but reinstalling the correct Canon package is usually the cleaner repair.
FAQ
Is cnb_0328.dll a Windows file?
No evidence establishes it as a Windows system DLL. Public records associate it with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software.
Which Canon printer uses it?
No authoritative public Canon page maps the filename to one exact printer model. Identify your model and install the package supplied for that model.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Indexed records describe it as a 32-bit DLL, but this is not universal Canon release metadata. Use the architecture and package selected by the official installer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan I copy it into System32?
No. The correct destination is determined by the Canon driver package. Manual copying can create a mismatch and does not restore the driver registration or dependencies.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Not normally. There is no verified evidence that this printer-driver DLL requires COM registration.
Will DISM or SFC restore it?
Usually not. They repair Windows components, not necessarily third-party Canon files. Reinstall the Canon driver first.
What if I no longer have the Canon printer?
Uninstall the Canon software, remove the printer from Printers & scanners, and disable or remove any related startup entry. If the error stops, it was likely a leftover reference rather than an active printing requirement.
