adlmint.dll is an Autodesk licensing-related file, not a Windows system DLL. The safest fix is to identify the Autodesk product reporting the error, then repair or reinstall that exact product with its complete official installer.
What this file actually does
adlmint.dll belongs to the Autodesk application that installed it. It appears in older Autodesk licensing systems used by products such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Civil 3D, Map 3D, Maya, Inventor, Revit-related products, and other Autodesk-based applications.
Typical locations include:

It is normally stored in the Autodesk product directory, not in:
C:WindowsSystem32

Older releases commonly use ADLM or FLEXnet licensing files. Newer Autodesk products use Autodesk Desktop Licensing, so installing a modern licensing service will not necessarily restore a legacy adlmint.dll.

Do not judge compatibility by the filename alone. A correct-looking file can still belong to a different Autodesk release, service pack, architecture, or licensing group.
Match the symptom to the likely cause

Fix 1: Identify the Autodesk product first
Do not start by searching for a replacement DLL. First determine which application is requesting it.
- Read the complete error window and note the program name.
- Check whether the failure occurs when opening AutoCAD, Maya, Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, F/X CAD, or an installer.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Autodesk products and note their exact names and release years.
- If the error appears during installation, identify the installer or third-party CAD product that launched it.
- Check the application’s installation folder for
adlmint.dll.
The parent product matters because Autodesk applications can contain product-local copies of licensing files. Repairing Maya will not necessarily repair an incomplete AutoCAD installation, even when both products use related licensing components.
Also note whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit. A 32-bit Autodesk application may require its own 32-bit product files even when Windows is 64-bit. Do not copy a file based only on the operating system architecture.
Fix 2: Repair the Autodesk installation
Repair is the best first fix when the file is missing, corrupted, or accidentally removed.
- Close the Autodesk application.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Find the exact Autodesk product named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Repair, depending on the release.
- Select Repair or Repair or Reinstall.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the Autodesk application again.
Older Autodesk installers may provide the repair option through Control Panel:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair when the Autodesk maintenance window appears.
How to tell whether repair worked
The application should open without the missing-file message, and the repaired product directory should contain its expected licensing files. Do not move the file to System32 to make this test pass. The Autodesk application should find the file in its own installation path.

If Repair is unavailable, fails, or completes without restoring the file, continue with a full reinstall.

Fix 3: Reinstall from the complete Autodesk package
A partial web installer may fail to restore required files. Use the full installation package obtained through the Autodesk account associated with the product.
- Back up custom templates, profiles, plugins, and work files.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall only the affected Autodesk product.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Sign in to the Autodesk account that owns the product.
- Download the complete installer for the exact product and release.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Allow the installation to finish without cancelling the licensing or prerequisite stages.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application and sign in or reactivate it if requested.
Do not install a DLL from another Autodesk release to avoid reinstalling the product. The installer must restore the complete licensing group, not just one filename.
If installation fails again, inspect the antivirus history, installer logs, %TEMP%, available disk space, permissions, and whether the downloaded package is incomplete.
Fix 4: Correct a service-pack mismatch on older releases
A missing-file message can actually be a version mismatch. Autodesk documents older licensing groups in which adlmint.dll must match adlmint_libFNP.dll. For one Autodesk 2014 pairing, the release files are documented as:

This problem can occur after:
- Installing a service pack for one Autodesk product but not another
- Removing a service pack
- Applying updates to side-by-side Autodesk products
- Repairing one product while leaving another at a different update level
The safe procedure is:
- Identify the exact Autodesk product and release.
- Note which service pack or hotfix is installed.
- Uninstall the affected product if Repair cannot restore a consistent installation.
- Reinstall the base product from the complete package.
- Apply the service pack or hotfix intended for that exact release.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Do not combine adlmint.dll from one release with adlmint_libFNP.dll from another. Manual file replacement is appropriate only when an Autodesk product-specific hotfix or installation media explicitly supplies the files and instructions.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Antivirus software has been documented blocking adlmint.dll during an Autodesk-based CAD installation. This is particularly relevant when the error appears immediately after installation or when the file repeatedly disappears.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving the Autodesk installation folder.
- Do not restore the file solely because its name matches the error.
- Verify that the installer came from Autodesk or an authorized Autodesk-based product vendor.
- If the file is digitally signed and the installation source is trusted, follow the security product’s restore procedure.
- Add an approved exclusion only if the vendor’s documented installation procedure requires it.
- Re-enable normal protection after installation.
- Run the Autodesk Repair operation again.
If the antivirus repeatedly removes the file, stop reinstalling it and investigate the detection. A missing file caused by quarantine requires a trusted installation and a verified security decision, not a downloaded replacement.
Fix 6: Repair newer Autodesk licensing components
For Autodesk products from newer release families, the failure may concern Autodesk Licensing Service rather than the legacy adlmint.dll file.
Use Autodesk Account or Autodesk Access to repair or reinstall the Autodesk Licensing Service associated with the affected product. Do not assume that a modern licensing-service repair will contain or use the same legacy DLL.
If Autodesk specifically reports that it cannot connect to the licensing component, repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables:

Fix 7: Run DISM and SFC only for broader Windows corruption
adlmint.dll is not a protected Windows component, so System File Checker will not normally supply it. Use these commands when Windows itself shows wider corruption symptoms, such as broken system applications, failed updates, or multiple unrelated component errors.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run Autodesk Repair or reinstall the Autodesk product if
adlmint.dllis still missing.
Microsoft documents DISM and SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
Repeating these commands without checking the Autodesk installation will not restore a third-party file that was never part of Windows.

Avoid DLL download sites and random copies from another computer. They can provide the wrong Autodesk release, wrong architecture, altered files, or malware, and they do not restore the licensing files that must work together.
regsvr32 is also not a general missing-DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Microsoft describes its behavior in the regsvr32 command documentation. Autodesk licensing files are normally restored by the product installer, not manually registered.
Do not copy adlmint.dll into System32 or SysWOW64. The Autodesk application normally searches its own product directory, and placing an unrelated copy in a Windows directory can create path, version, architecture, and security problems.
Optional driver and hardware checks
A graphics-driver problem does not normally cause adlmint.dll itself to disappear. Check drivers only when the Autodesk application also shows display failures, crashes, or rendering errors after the licensing issue is resolved.

- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

When the error still remains
Collect these details before contacting Autodesk Support or the product vendor:
- Exact Autodesk product name and release
- Full error text
- Whether the file is absent or present
- The folder containing the file
- 32-bit or 64-bit application architecture
- Recent service-pack, reinstall, antivirus, or migration changes
- Antivirus detection history
- Installation logs from the failed repair or reinstall
- Whether other Autodesk products work
Also check disk health, Windows Update status, permissions, %TEMP%, and whether the installer is a partial package. If files continue disappearing, run a reputable security scan and consider System Restore only when a restore point predates the failure.
