Start with this three-minute check
Before replacing anything, confirm:
- Which program fails:
i3gfxdx.dllis primarily associated with Point Blank and related regional clients. - When it fails: note whether the message appears when starting the launcher, launching
PointBlank.exe, joining a match, or after the game begins rendering. - What changed: think back to a game update, failed patch, reinstall, antivirus detection, disk cleanup, or graphics-driver change.
- Which client you have: Point Blank distributions from different publishers and regions may use different patch levels and companion files.
- Which architecture is involved: many historical Point Blank clients appear to be 32-bit, but verify the particular regional build. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit game.

Do not begin by copying a replacement DLL into C:WindowsSystem32. i3gfxdx.dll is not a normal Windows component. It is a game-local file that should normally be beside the Point Blank executable and related i3*.dll files.
What i3gfxdx.dll is
i3gfxdx.dll is a native graphics and DirectX-engine DLL used by Point Blank installations. It belongs to the game client, not to Windows, a graphics-card driver, or a Microsoft Visual C++ package.
Point Blank clients commonly include companion files with names such as:
i3BaseDx.dlli3FrameworkDx.dlli3InputDx.dlli3SceneDx.dlli3GfxDx.dll
The original game developer is Zepetto, while regional clients have been distributed by different publishers. That distinction matters because a DLL from one region or patch level may not match another installation.

The normal location is the Point Blank installation folder, often the same folder as PointBlank.exe. The exact path varies by publisher and by where you installed the game. It is not normally supplied by Windows in System32 or SysWOW64.
Historical records also show the game executable failing inside i3gfxdx.dll during rendering. That is a different problem from a missing-file message. A missing file usually points to an incomplete update, quarantine, or damaged installation. A crash after the game loads can involve mismatched game files, a graphics driver, game settings, or an old client’s compatibility with newer Windows versions.
Match the error to the fault
These messages generally fall into four groups:
| Message or symptom | Most likely direction |
|---|---|
| “i3gfxdx.dll is missing” or “was not found” | Repair the Point Blank files and check antivirus quarantine |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The DLL or one of its dependencies may be missing |
| “The procedure entry point could not be located” | Mixed or incompatible game files |
Point Blank crashes with an access violation in i3gfxdx.dll |
Investigate drivers, rendering, compatibility, and client integrity |
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that i3gfxdx.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL. If the error names a separate file such as d3dx9_*.dll, XInput 1.3, XAUDIO, msvcr*.dll, or vcruntime*.dll, repair that dependency rather than downloading i3gfxdx.dll.
Fix 1: Run the Point Blank launcher’s file check
This is the safest and most likely fix because the launcher knows which files belong to your regional client.
- Close Point Blank and its launcher.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select any remaining Point Blank, game-launcher, or updater process and choose End task.
- Open the Point Blank installation folder in File Explorer.
- Right-click the official launcher executable and select Run as administrator.
- Look for a control labelled Check, Repair, Verify, File check, or Full scan.
- Start the check and allow it to complete without closing the launcher.
- Restart Windows, then launch the game normally.
A successful repair usually reports that damaged or missing files were replaced, or the launcher completes without showing an error. If the launcher downloads i3gfxdx.dll again and Point Blank starts, the problem was an incomplete or damaged game update.
For older Nfinity Games installations, a documented repair workflow was to delete the damaged copy from the Point Blank folder and then run the launcher’s file check. Do this only when the launcher supports file verification and only for the affected game-local file. Do not delete files from System32 or SysWOW64.
If the launcher has no repair function, or the check repeatedly fails, continue with the antivirus and clean-reinstall steps below.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine or delete a game DLL after an update, even when the original problem was simply a damaged file.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent events for the Point Blank installation path or
i3gfxdx.dll. - Open the event and record the detection name and full path.
- If the file came from the legitimate official game installation and the detection is clearly a false positive, use the available Restore or Allow on device action.
- Run a full scan of the game folder.
- Run the Point Blank launcher’s file check again.
Do not restore a DLL merely because its filename looks familiar. Confirm that the path is your real Point Blank directory and that the file came from the official installer or launcher. If the antivirus continues to remove it, leave the file quarantined and reinstall the game from the official regional client instead.
You can add the game folder as an exclusion only after confirming the installation source and scanning the complete folder. Exclusions reduce protection, so do not exclude a random download directory or an individual DLL obtained elsewhere.
Fix 3: Reinstall the matching regional client
A clean reinstall is the definitive repair when the installation contains mixed files or the launcher cannot restore them.
- Open Settings with Windows+I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Point Blank and its launcher.
- Select the entry, choose Uninstall, and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- If the uninstaller leaves the old Point Blank folder behind, delete that remaining folder only after confirming it contains no personal files you need.
- Install the current Point Blank client from the official regional publisher or game launcher.
- Install it to a new folder if the previous location had permission or cleanup problems.
- Run the launcher’s file check before starting the game.
Do not copy i3gfxdx.dll from another publisher, region, language, patch level, or computer. Even if the file loads, its companion i3*.dll files and game assets may not match, causing an entry-point error or a rendering crash.
If the regional installation has been discontinued, a reinstall may not restore online service or compatibility. In that situation, keep the exact error text, launcher log, and client details for the regional publisher’s support channel.
Fix 4: Identify a separate DirectX or Visual C++ dependency
i3gfxdx.dll is not supplied by Microsoft’s DirectX redistributable. Install Microsoft’s package only when the error names a legacy DirectX component.

For errors naming d3dx9_*.dll, XInput 1.3, or XAudio components:
- Open Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime page.
- Download the official
dxwebsetup.exe. - Run it as administrator.
- Accept the setup terms and allow it to install the legacy components.
- Restart Windows and test Point Blank.
This package supplements newer DirectX versions. It does not replace i3gfxdx.dll.

- Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable documentation.
- Download the architecture required by the game and the architecture available for that regional client.
- Install the package, restart Windows, and run the launcher check again.
Do not install runtimes solely because a DLL guide lists them. Match the package to the filename in the actual error.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands are useful when other applications also fail, Windows reports component corruption, or the problem began after a system failure. They will not normally restore a third-party DLL stored in the Point Blank directory.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and run the Point Blank launcher’s file check again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Point Blank after restarting. If both commands complete without finding a problem and only Point Blank is affected, return to the game repair or reinstall path.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting circular. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the Windows issues involved and show what needs attention; its repair is performed by the full version, but reinstalling Point Blank remains the definitive fix for a missing game DLL.

Fix 6: Update or reinstall the graphics driver
Driver work is more relevant when Point Blank starts and then crashes inside i3gfxdx.dll, rather than when Windows reports that the file is missing.
First identify the adapter:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Note whether the adapter is Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider and date.
- Download the current driver from the GPU manufacturer’s official website.
- Run the installer and choose its clean-install or reset option if offered.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
If the crash began immediately after a driver update:

- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the adapter and select Properties.
- Open Driver.
- Choose Roll Back Driver if available.
- Restart and test Point Blank.
You can use Outbyte Driver Updater to scan for outdated drivers instead of hunting through several manufacturer pages; the free scan identifies the driver state, while installation is handled by the full version, and it is not a substitute for repairing the Point Blank client.
Also test the game with its default resolution and graphics settings. If the client is old, compatibility mode or legacy DirectX 9 support may matter, but change one setting at a time so you can identify the cause.
Fix 7: Check permissions and repeated redownloads
If the launcher downloads i3gfxdx.dll, removes it, and downloads it again, check for interference rather than repeatedly replacing the file.
- Right-click the Point Blank folder and select Properties.
- Open the Security tab.
- Confirm that your Windows account has permission to read, write, and modify the folder.
- Check Windows Security for Controlled folder access notifications.
- Temporarily close overlays, cleanup utilities, and third-party security software only according to their documented controls.
- Check the drive for errors with the drive manufacturer’s diagnostic utility or Windows’ built-in drive properties.
- Run the launcher as administrator and repeat its file check.
If antivirus logs show a detection, resolve that finding first. If the launcher cannot write to the folder, reinstalling to a new location can be safer than changing broad permissions.
Why regsvr32 is usually wrong
Do not run:
regsvr32 i3gfxdx.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair command for game runtime files. Running it against i3gfxdx.dll may produce an entry-point error and distract from the actual problem.
Likewise, placing a 32-bit game DLL into System32 or SysWOW64 does not make it available to Point Blank. Windows architecture and game architecture are separate. The matching file belongs in the game’s own installation directory.
Avoid manual DLL downloads
Random DLL downloads are risky because the file may contain malware, belong to a different Point Blank build, use the wrong architecture, or omit the dependency that caused the error. A familiar filename alone does not prove that a file is safe.
Use the official Point Blank launcher or regional installer. Use Microsoft packages only for separately named DirectX or Visual C++ dependencies. If the source, path, signature, or antivirus result is uncertain, remove the installation and perform a clean official reinstall.
