Short answer: if Roblox still shows a Disable Beta option, open Settings inside the app and use it. If that option is missing, you are probably using the newer Microsoft Store product, officially called Roblox – Windows. In that case, uninstall the Store app, restart Windows, and test the official desktop installation from Roblox.com—but Roblox may redirect you back to the Store app.
The old beta instructions and registry fixes do not reliably apply to the current Windows migration.
First, identify which Roblox app you have
“Roblox beta app” can refer to several different things: the older Windows App Beta, the current Microsoft Store app, the desktop player launched after clicking Play on Roblox.com, or simply the newer Roblox home interface.
Roblox now identifies its newer Microsoft Store application as Roblox – Windows. The older Store version is generally listed as Roblox. Roblox says the newer app has a blue icon, while the older version uses a light-gray icon. Windows may display similar names for multiple installations, so check the icon, publisher, and installation source rather than relying on the name alone.

To inspect your installation, open:
Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps
Search for Roblox. Do not confuse Roblox Player with Roblox Studio, which is a separate application.
Roblox’s current Windows guidance says users need the new app to continue playing and that the old app will eventually stop working. This is a product migration, not necessarily the opt-in beta described by older tutorials. See Roblox’s current Microsoft Store announcement.
If the Disable Beta option is still available
This applies only if you genuinely have the older beta interface and the control is still visible:
- Open Roblox.
- Open the app menu, usually represented by three dots or a similar menu button.
- Select Settings.
- Look for Disable Beta, Opt out, or Disable Windows App Beta.
- Confirm the choice and allow Roblox to close or restart.
The option was documented in older Roblox Developer Forum guidance, but it may be missing, disabled, or irrelevant in current versions. If you cannot find it, that does not indicate a Windows settings problem; it usually means the old opt-out is no longer available for that installation.

Do not rely on old registry tutorials. A previously circulated method changed the LaunchExp registry value between InApp and InBrowser, but the relevant Roblox community post is archived and explicitly says the method no longer works: archived registry workaround.
Current fallback: uninstall the Microsoft Store app
If you have Roblox – Windows and deliberately want to test the website-based desktop player, use Windows’ normal uninstall process:
- Close Roblox and any Roblox launcher windows.
- Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Roblox.
- Select the three-dot More button next to the Store app.
- Select Uninstall.
- Remove only the Roblox player app you intend to remove. Leave Roblox Studio installed unless you also want Studio removed.
- Restart Windows before installing another Roblox client.
These are Microsoft’s standard Windows 10 and Windows 11 steps. The labels can vary slightly between Windows versions; Microsoft documents the process in its uninstall instructions.
Install the official desktop client, if Roblox offers it
- Go to the official Roblox download page.
- Sign in to your Roblox account.
- Open an experience from Roblox.com and click Play.
- If Roblox offers a desktop installer, download it only from Roblox.com.
- Run the installer, return to your browser, and click Play again.
This may restore a browser-to-desktop-player workflow, but it is not guaranteed. Roblox’s current support material emphasizes Roblox – Windows as the Windows path. Depending on your account, browser, device, or the current rollout, Roblox.com may redirect you to the Microsoft Store or stop offering the older desktop installer. If that happens, there may be no supported way to remain permanently on the old player.

What to do if Roblox keeps opening the Store app
Check the following in order:
- Return to Settings → Apps → Installed apps and confirm that Roblox – Windows is actually gone.
- Check for duplicate Roblox entries, including a desktop installation and one or more Store packages.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove old Roblox shortcuts and pinned Store shortcuts.
- Launch the experience from Roblox.com rather than from a pinned shortcut.
- If the browser says Roblox is not installed, reinstall through the official Roblox download page.
If Roblox continues offering the Store app after these steps, it may be enforcing the current Windows product rather than misusing a Windows file association. Avoid registry edits, protocol-handler changes, third-party launchers, and “beta remover” executables. Roblox recommends obtaining its software from official sources and avoiding tools that modify the client.
If Roblox will not uninstall
- Restart the computer and try the uninstall again.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Roblox → Advanced options.
- If available, select Repair, then try uninstalling again.
- If Repair does not help, use Reset where Windows provides it. Reset can remove local app data.
- If Windows still blocks removal, use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.
- Contact Roblox Support if the installation remains damaged.
Do not use the command line as a first-line beta opt-out. Roblox has published a local-data clearing command for particular connection and reinstall problems:
cd AppDataLocal
rmdir /s RobloxThis deletes local Roblox data and is not a general method for switching away from the Store app. Use it only when following Roblox troubleshooting guidance, such as its Error Code 279 instructions.

Do not delete unrelated account or local files unless a specific troubleshooting step requires it. If you cannot sign in afterward, use Roblox’s official account-recovery process.
Does this uninstall Roblox Studio?
Not necessarily. Roblox Player and Roblox Studio are separate Windows applications. Inspect the Installed apps list and remove only the player app unless you also want Studio removed. Roblox documents Studio’s separate installation process in its Studio setup guide.
Windows compatibility
These instructions are intended for supported 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations. Roblox’s published requirements should be checked before troubleshooting older versions of Windows or 32-bit systems: Roblox computer and operating-system requirements.
Bottom line
If Disable Beta is present, use that in-app option. If it is missing, identify and uninstall Roblox – Windows, restart Windows, and test the official Roblox.com desktop installation. This may restore browser launching, but Roblox may require the newer Store app, and no permanent return to the old player is guaranteed.
