Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf Epic Games keeps returning you to the sign-in page, the most likely cause is stale browser or launcher session data. First check Epic’s status page, then try a private browser window, clear Epic cookies, fully exit the launcher, delete its specific web-cache folders, and retry without a VPN or proxy. Do not reinstall the launcher until these steps—and account recovery if necessary—have failed.
What counts as an Epic Games login loop?
A login loop occurs when credentials or two-factor authentication appear to work, but Epic sends you back to sign in instead of opening your account, Store, or Library. It can also look like a launcher that repeatedly opens a browser login page, a successful browser sign-in that never returns to the launcher, a blank or refreshing authentication page, or automatic sign-in to the wrong Epic account.
This is different from an incorrect password, a missing 2FA code, an inaccessible account, an account-security problem, or a launcher installation failure that happens after authentication.
One-minute triage
- Check status.epicgames.com.
- Try signing in through an Incognito, InPrivate, or Private window.
- Clear stored data for Epic authentication pages.
- Disable browser extensions that block scripts, cookies, or redirects.
- Disconnect your VPN and disable any test proxy.
- Fully exit Epic Games Launcher and clear its web cache.
- Try another browser or network.
- Use Epic’s account-recovery flow if 2FA or email access—not the session— is the real problem.
1. Check whether Epic is experiencing an outage
Open Epic’s public status page before changing files or reinstalling software. Check Login, Epic Account Services—Authentication, Epic Games Website, and Epic Games Store.

These components can have different incidents. A Store download or installation problem does not automatically mean authentication is unavailable. In the status snapshot dated August 18, 2026, Login and Epic Account Services—Authentication were operational, while Epic Games Store download and installation were degraded during a separate Windows 10 installation/update incident. Status information is volatile, so use the page for the latest result.
If authentication is degraded or unavailable, local cache cleanup is unlikely to provide a permanent fix. Wait for Epic’s incident to clear and avoid repeatedly resetting passwords or requesting codes.
2. Fix a browser-only login loop
Try a private window first
Open a new Incognito window in Chrome, an InPrivate window in Edge, or File → New Private Window in Safari. Visit Epic’s official website and sign in manually.
If this works, your account is probably valid and the normal browser profile has stale cookies, cached authentication data, an extension conflict, or an incorrect linked-account session.
Clear Epic’s site data
- Close Epic login tabs.
- Open your browser’s privacy or site-data settings.
- Remove stored data for
epicgames.com,accounts.epicgames.com, and any Epic authentication domain shown in the address bar. - Retry the sign-in.
Site-specific deletion is preferable because clearing all cookies can sign you out of unrelated websites. Epic identifies cached session data and cookie conflicts as common causes of repeated login redirects; see its official login-loop guidance.
Temporarily remove browser interference
Disable ad blockers, script blockers, anti-tracking tools, and cookie-management extensions for the test. Make sure cookies and JavaScript are permitted for Epic authentication pages. Restore your normal protections afterward.

Also try another browser. If the browser is already signed in to a different Google, Apple, Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo account, a linked-account button may authenticate that account instead of the one you intended.
Disconnect VPNs and proxies
Disconnect your VPN, disable a manually configured browser or system proxy, restart the browser, and test again. Epic specifically recommends disconnecting VPN or proxy services while diagnosing login loops. Do not buy or enable a VPN as a fix.
Recommended Free Tools
On a work, school, or university network, a proxy may be required. In that case, ask the network administrator about authentication traffic rather than changing proxy settings at random. Epic documents an advanced launcher Use Proxy setting and the -httpproxy=[ip address] launch option, but these are managed-network options, not general remedies.
3. Fix a launcher login loop
The launcher and browser may share a stale authentication handoff, so clear both when the launcher repeatedly opens a login page.
Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely. Check the system tray, click the upward arrow, right-click the Epic icon, and choose Exit.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. - Delete these folders if present:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. - Relaunch Epic Games Launcher and sign in again.
macOS
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Move the
webcachefolder to the Trash. - Relaunch the launcher.
Epic’s cache instructions are available here. Delete only the named cache folders—not the whole Epic Games directory or your game-installation folders. The cache is rebuilt automatically, and the launcher may take slightly longer to start. Expect to sign in again.
4. Stop Epic signing into the wrong account
Wrong-account auto-login can look like a loop, especially when a console or platform account is already active in the browser.

- Sign out of Epic in the browser.
- Clear the launcher web cache using the Windows or Mac steps above.
- Open a private browser window.
- Sign in with the intended Epic account or linked platform account.
- After signing in, verify the account email, display name, and linked accounts before launching a game.
Epic provides additional wrong-account guidance. Do not casually unlink a PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Google, or Apple account: unlinking can create access and progression complications. Ask Epic Support for account-specific advice first.
5. When 2FA succeeds but the loop returns
Clear both browser site data and launcher web cache, confirm that you are using the intended account, and check that the device clock is set automatically and accurately. If another 2FA method is available, try it. Do not repeatedly request codes if the account begins applying rate limits or additional security checks.
If you cannot access the authenticator, phone, recovery method, or account email, use the official Epic account-recovery flow. Choose Trouble signing in?, enter the account email, and follow the displayed route for lost authentication methods or Lost access to this email address? If Epic cannot find the account, use the recovery option shown in the error.
A loop alone does not prove that an account was hacked. Treat it as a security incident if you also see password-reset messages you did not request, changed 2FA details, unfamiliar account changes, or unauthorized purchases. Use Epic’s account-security guidance, and never share a password, 2FA code, or recovery code.

- Restart the modem and router.
- Try a phone hotspot or another trusted network.
- Confirm the system clock and time zone are automatic and accurate.
- Temporarily test whether firewall or security software is blocking the launcher, then immediately restore protection.
- Install pending operating-system or launcher updates.
If sign-in works on a hotspot, the home, school, work, ISP, DNS, router, or proxy path is implicated. If it fails on every browser and network, account, 2FA, local security, launcher, or Epic-side causes become more likely.
Epic’s connection troubleshooting guide also covers DNS flushing, public DNS, Hosts-file checks, and other connection categories. Use those only after simpler tests, document existing settings, and restore them if they do not help. DNS or Hosts-file changes are not guaranteed fixes for a pure session loop.

Managed proxy networks
If a company or school requires a proxy, use the administrator’s approved configuration. Epic documents proxy configuration and the -httpproxy=[ip address] option here. An incorrect proxy, certificate, or traffic filter can itself prevent authentication.
7. Update or run the launcher as administrator
Epic’s broader launcher checklist includes checking for launcher updates, verifying system requirements, running the launcher as administrator, disabling conflicting background applications, and reinstalling only as a last resort. These steps matter more when the launcher also crashes, freezes, or fails to render its login screen; graphics-driver updates are not a first-line fix for a straightforward login loop.
8. Reinstall only as a last resort
Reinstallation cannot repair an Epic outage, inaccessible email, failed 2FA, a wrong linked account, or a proxy problem. It may also remove local game installations depending on the official Windows procedure. Before reinstalling, try private-browser sign-in, browser-data cleanup, launcher-cache cleanup, another network, and account recovery.
If you do reinstall, follow Epic’s current launcher troubleshooting instructions. The Epic account and purchased games are cloud-account matters, but local launcher and game files are separate; protect or reinstall local titles as necessary.
Use this decision tree
- Browser only: private window → Epic site-data cleanup → disable extensions → disconnect VPN/proxy → another browser or network.
- Launcher opens the browser repeatedly: fully exit launcher → delete the Windows or Mac web cache → retry in a private window → test without VPN/proxy.
- 2FA succeeds, then the loop returns: clear both session stores → verify the account → check the clock → use recovery if the authentication method is inaccessible.
- Only a linked platform fails: test direct Epic sign-in, verify the linked account, and avoid unlinking without support guidance.
- Login works but downloads fail: treat it as a separate Store or installation issue and consult the status page.
When to contact Epic Player Support
Contact Epic through its official support pages if the loop persists across multiple browsers and networks, you cannot access the account email or 2FA method, the account shows signs of compromise, the status page reports no authentication outage but every device fails, or the launcher displays a persistent account-specific error.
Use only Epic’s official website. Search-result phone numbers, unofficial “Epic support” services, registry cleaners, driver-updater tools, and paid VPN subscriptions are not appropriate solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Epic keep sending me back to the login page?
Epic says stale cookies or cached session data are common causes. Try a private window, clear Epic site data, and clear the launcher web cache if the launcher is involved.
Will deleting the Epic web cache delete my games?
The specified web-cache folders store launcher session/interface data, not your game installations. Delete only the named cache folders, not the wider Epic Games directory.
Should I reinstall Epic Games Launcher?
Only after status, browser data, launcher cache, VPN/proxy, network, and account-recovery checks. Reinstallation may remove local game installations and cannot fix an inaccessible account or service outage.
Can a VPN cause an Epic login loop?
A VPN or proxy can interfere with the connection or authentication handoff. Epic recommends disconnecting it temporarily while diagnosing the problem.
What if I no longer have access to my Epic email?
Use Epic’s official account-recovery flow and select the option for lost access to the email address. Provide the requested ownership information.
Can I play Epic games offline while login is unavailable?
It depends on the game, launcher state, and whether offline mode was previously prepared. Online authentication, multiplayer, and some DRM checks may still be required.
