Microsoft announced on February 25, 2026, that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members would begin receiving cloud streams of up to 1440p with a higher bitrate. The benefit is subject to supported games, devices, regions, and rollout status, so it does not guarantee a 1440p stream in every session.
Microsoft’s announcement is available in its February 2026 Xbox update.
What Microsoft announced
The new streaming profile offers supported Xbox Cloud Gaming titles at up to 2560×1440, alongside a higher bitrate designed to make the picture sharper and gameplay feel more responsive. Microsoft identified Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as the qualifying subscription for the rollout.
The initial console support includes:
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One X
- Xbox One S
Microsoft also said the higher-quality experience is being added across supported PCs using the Xbox PC app, compatible browsers, supported handhelds, select Fire TV devices, and supported LG and Samsung TVs. Availability varies by title and region.

- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Is 1440p available now?
Yes—but “available” needs qualification. Earlier reports found references to higher-quality profiles such as 720HQ, 1080HQ, and 1440p in Xbox Cloud Gaming service code and testing. Microsoft then officially announced the rollout on February 25, 2026.
That does not mean every Game Pass Ultimate account, game, device, or region has an always-visible 1440p setting. Cloud quality can be enabled server-side, limited to selected content, and adjusted automatically according to the client and connection. The accurate description is up to 1440p for supported titles and regions, not universal 1440p access.
Check the current Xbox Cloud Gaming landing page and your local Xbox service availability for account- and region-specific information.

- Quality Visuals: The KG271U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provide the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 180Hz: The 180Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 180Hz, Acer Gaming Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be all rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG271U Gaming Monitor.
- New Depths of Color Accuracy: is monitor is ideal for color-critical projects producing accurate colors, supporting DCI-P3 95%. An amazing monitor for graphic designers, photographers, and film editors.
Which subscription is required?
Microsoft’s announcement ties the up-to-1440p console rollout to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Subscribers to a lower Game Pass tier should not assume that they receive the same streaming profile. Confirm the current plan details and regional availability on the official Xbox Game Pass page.

Resolution is only one part of Ultimate’s value. The broader decision also depends on how often you use cloud gaming, the included catalog, day-one releases, queue priority, and whether you normally play locally. Exact plan pricing can change by market and date, so use Microsoft’s live page rather than relying on an old price.
What does the higher bitrate change?
Resolution and bitrate solve different problems. A higher resolution can preserve more spatial detail, while a higher bitrate gives the video encoder more data with which to represent complex scenes. In practice, the combination may improve:

- ASUS Fast IPS technology enables a 1ms response time (GTG) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
- ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates.
- DisplayWidget Center enables easy OSD access and monitor settings adjustments with a mouse.
- USB Type-C hub supports video transmission in DisplayPort signal; can serve as a USB hub, meaning that you can connect your device to your wired peripherals with clutter-free set-up
- Fine textures, foliage, and distant objects.
- Text and HUD readability.
- Dark-scene stability.
- Motion clarity.
- Blockiness, smearing, and macroblocking during difficult scenes.
It will not automatically eliminate input latency, network jitter, packet loss, frame-pacing problems, or compression during congestion. A game’s own dynamic-resolution behavior also remains relevant.
Does every game render natively at 1440p?
No universal native-rendering guarantee has been made. Microsoft confirms that the stream output can reach up to 1440p, but its announcement does not say that every cloud title is rendered internally at native 2560×1440.

Earlier technical coverage raised the possibility that some games could render at a lower internal resolution and then be encoded or upscaled into a higher-quality stream. That distinction matters: a 1440p stream can look cleaner than a lower-resolution stream without being equivalent to native 1440p game rendering.

The upgrade is most meaningful if you have a 1440p or 4K display, a stable low-latency connection, an Ultimate subscription, and a supported game on a supported client. Large screens and fine-detail-heavy games make compression and resolution differences easier to see.
On a 1080p display, a 1440p stream cannot create additional visible panel resolution. However, the higher bitrate may still produce a cleaner image with fewer compression artifacts. The improvement can also be limited by viewing distance, the game’s render resolution, display settings, browser behavior, HDMI configuration, and network conditions.

- TILT ADJUSTMENT: Customize your setup with -3° to +21° tilt range for ergonomic positioning.
- ENHANCED GAMING FEATURES: Includes Shadow Control, Game Mode presets, and a user-friendly graphical OSD menu for fast and intuitive performance tuning.
Higher-quality streaming also uses more data. This is particularly important for mobile hotspots, capped broadband plans, and congested home networks. Microsoft’s announcement does not establish a universal bitrate ceiling or hourly data-use figure, so third-party numbers should not be treated as Xbox-wide specifications.
If 1440p does not appear
- Confirm that the account has Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- Confirm that the console, PC, browser, handheld, or TV client is supported.
- Install the latest available Xbox system, app, browser, or TV-app update.
- Try a game known to be included in the applicable cloud catalog and check regional availability.
- Restart the Xbox app or browser session.
- Test with Ethernet or strong 5 GHz/6 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Check that the connected display is actually configured for 1440p or higher.
- Remember that cloud quality may be controlled by service-side rollout and automatic adaptation rather than a manual resolution selector.
There is no single universal menu path across Xbox consoles, browsers, PC, handheld, and television clients. If the image remains soft, compare a static menu or HUD as well as fast-moving gameplay; motion and network conditions can make visual differences harder to judge.
Other February Xbox updates
The same Xbox update also covered a refreshed Xbox Cloud Gaming web experience in public preview for Xbox Insiders, controller navigation sounds in the Xbox PC app, easier removable-storage formatting on ROG Xbox Ally devices, Handheld Compatibility Program updates, additional Xbox Play Anywhere titles, expansion of “Stream your own game,” Retro Classics, and continued mouse-and-keyboard and touch-control support.
Those changes are separate from the 1440p stream profile, but they show that Microsoft’s cloud and handheld experience is being updated alongside streaming quality.

It is worth considering if:
- You frequently use cloud gaming.
- You own a 1440p or 4K display.
- Your broadband connection is stable and generous with data.
- You also want the wider Ultimate catalog and related benefits.
It is less compelling if:
- You mainly use a 1080p phone or television.
- You play locally on a console or PC most of the time.
- Your connection is unstable or data-capped.
- You care more about minimum input latency than image quality.
A compatible monitor, smart TV, Fire TV device, handheld, Ethernet adapter, or Wi-Fi 6/6E router may help complete the setup, but none guarantees 1440p. The service rollout, game, cloud render resolution, display chain, and network all remain potential limitations.
