No—Discord Nitro boosts are not permanent. The two Server Boosts included with the full Nitro plan are subscription benefits. They remain available while the qualifying Nitro subscription is active, then end when Nitro actually expires. They are not converted into permanently owned boosts.
However, separately purchased Server Boost subscriptions are different: they are independent recurring subscriptions and can remain active after Nitro ends. Your server’s perks, your boost placement, and your boosting streak are also separate issues.
What “permanent” can mean
When people ask whether Nitro boosts are permanent, they may be asking about four different things:
- Boost availability: whether you still have an active boost to use.
- Boost placement: which server receives the boost.
- Server perks: benefits unlocked by the server’s total boost count.
- Boosting badge and streak: your record of continuously boosting.
None of these should be treated as proof that a boost is permanently owned. Discord describes the boosts included with Nitro as benefits lasting for the subscription period. Discord’s current Nitro documentation says full Nitro includes two Server Boosts, while Nitro Basic does not include Boost perks.

What happens in each situation?

Do boosts disappear immediately when you cancel Nitro?
Usually, no. Canceling Nitro generally stops the next renewal but does not end the current subscription immediately. The included boosts should remain available until the Nitro expiration date shown in your account.
After the qualifying Nitro subscription ends, its two included boosts are no longer available. This is different from canceling a separately purchased boost: that subscription also normally remains active until the end of its current billing period. Discord’s cancellation flow should show the relevant removal or expiration date.

Does canceling Nitro cancel separately purchased boosts?
No. A Server Boost purchased separately from Nitro is its own recurring subscription. Canceling Nitro does not automatically cancel it.

What if you downgrade to Nitro Basic?
Nitro Basic is not simply full Nitro with fewer boosts. Discord’s current plan documentation says Nitro Basic does not include Boost perks. If Server Boosts are the reason you subscribe, downgrading from full Nitro to Nitro Basic will not preserve the two included boosts.
A separately purchased Server Boost subscription can still be managed independently, subject to its own billing status. Review User Settings → Subscriptions after changing plans.
What happens to the server when a boost ends?
A server does not necessarily lose every benefit when one boost disappears. Its remaining active boosts determine which levels and additional perks it still qualifies for.

These requirements and available perks can change, and Discord may test some features or make them available only in particular circumstances. Consult the current Server Boosting FAQ for the live requirements.
If a departing boost takes the server below a level or a specific perk’s requirement, that level or perk may be removed or disabled. If the server still meets the requirement with its remaining boosts, the perk can remain active.

You can move an active boost, but Discord applies conditions:
- Open User Settings using the cogwheel.
- Open the Server Boost tab.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the boost.
- Choose Transfer Boost.
- Search for or select the destination server.
- Confirm the transfer.
You must already be a member of the destination server. A boost generally has a seven-day cooldown after being applied before it can be transferred. Moving it can also cause the original server to lose a level or another perk if it no longer has enough boosts.
Leaving or being removed from a server can likewise trigger a seven-day cooldown before the boost can be used again. That cooldown is separate from the 72-hour window used to protect a boosting streak.
How to cancel a separate Server Boost
Desktop or browser
- Open User Settings with the cogwheel beside your username.
- Open Server Boost.
- Choose the three-dot menu beside the relevant boost.
- Select Cancel Boost Subscription.
- Confirm and review the displayed removal date.
The boost normally remains active until the end of its current billing period.
Mobile
- Tap your avatar.
- Tap the cogwheel.
- Open Billing Settings → Manage Nitro.
- Tap Cancel beside the relevant subscription.
- Complete the platform’s confirmation steps.
Discord says cancellation generally needs to be completed on the same device type used for the purchase. A subscription bought through a mobile app store may therefore need to be managed through that mobile billing route.
Can you keep your boosting streak?
A boost’s availability and your boosting streak are not the same thing. Discord says that when boosting stops for an eligible reason, you have 72 hours to reapply the boost to another server to preserve the streak.
That rule matters when Nitro expires, a boost subscription ends, you change billing platforms, or you lose access to a server. Simply renewing Nitro should not be treated as a guarantee that every streak issue will resolve automatically. If you need to preserve the streak, reapply the eligible boost within Discord’s stated window.
Discord says Support cannot restore a lost Nitro or Server Boost streak. Its streak guidance also lists ending or canceling the relevant subscription, leaving or being removed from a server, and server deletion among circumstances that can affect the streak.

When switching a purchase between desktop and mobile billing, Discord says users have 72 hours to manually reactivate their Server Boosts to avoid losing the streak.
Is the boosting badge permanent?
No. The badge reflects boosting history and continuity; it does not prove that a boost remains active forever.
Discord also documents a known issue in which a badge may continue to display even when a user has no active boosts. Treat that as a possible display or account-state issue, not evidence of permanent ownership. Check your subscriptions and active boosts separately.
What changes with Nitro Credits?
Nitro Credits are a special case rather than a normal recurring Nitro subscription. Discord says they provide Nitro for a limited period, do not create a recurring subscription, and can stack.
According to Discord’s Nitro Credits FAQ:
- Existing boosts remain active and unchanged while the credits are active.
- Boosts can be transferred under the normal rules and cooldowns.
- New Server Boosts cannot be purchased while Nitro Credits are active.
- Existing boost subscriptions cannot be canceled until the Nitro Credits have been completely used.
Nitro Credits are not necessarily available to every Discord user, so do not assume that their rules apply to a standard Nitro subscription or every promotion.
Nitro, Nitro Basic, or a separate boost subscription?
The practical choice depends on what you want to pay for:
- Choose full Nitro if you want the broader Nitro package as well as two included boosts. Discord’s current documentation also lists a discount on additional boosts.
- Consider a separate boost subscription if your main goal is supporting a server and you do not need Nitro’s other features.
- Be cautious with Nitro Basic if boosting is your priority, because the current plan documentation says it does not include Boost perks.
Do not rely on an old dollar comparison. Discord offers monthly and annual billing, and pricing may vary by country, currency, platform, taxes, and market conditions. Check the current price at Discord’s official Nitro page and in the checkout flow for your account.

“I canceled Nitro, but I still have the boosts.”
The current billing period may not have ended. You may also have separate Server Boost subscriptions. Check the expiration date and subscription list before assuming the boosts are permanent.

The server likely fell below the boost requirement for that level or an additional perk. Count the remaining active boosts and compare them with Discord’s current requirements.
“I cannot transfer my boost.”
Check that you belong to the destination server and that at least seven days have passed since the boost was applied or last moved.

“I left a server and now the boost is unavailable.”
Leaving or being removed can place the boost on a cooldown. Do not confuse that temporary restriction with permanent loss.
“My badge is still showing, so I must still be boosting.”
Not necessarily. Discord acknowledges that the badge can sometimes remain visible despite no active boosts. Verify the actual subscription state.

Nitro boosts are not permanent. The two boosts included with full Nitro last only while that qualifying subscription is active, although canceling normally leaves them active until the current billing period ends. Separately purchased boosts are also recurring subscriptions, not one-time purchases.
Server perks depend on the server’s remaining boost count, while your badge and streak depend on uninterrupted boosting and timely reapplication. Before canceling or downgrading, check your subscriptions, note the expiration date, and remember the seven-day transfer cooldown and 72-hour streak-preservation window.
