Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Short answer: install the Epic Games Store on iPhone if you are an active Fortnite player in a supported region and want a native alternative to Apple’s App Store. Do not install it expecting cheaper everyday iPhone apps: Epic’s mobile marketplace is game-focused, region-restricted, and still too limited to replace Apple’s store.
The recommendation depends heavily on location. EU iPhone Fortnite players have the clearest reason to use it. U.S. users cannot currently install the Epic marketplace on iPhone, although Fortnite is available separately through the U.S. App Store. Japan supports the store on iPhone but not currently on iPad. Brazil is listed as supported by Epic’s support documentation, although Epic’s public pages have not been fully consistent.

Who should install the Epic Games Store?
| User | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| EU iPhone Fortnite player | Yes. It provides native Fortnite through an alternative distribution route, plus other Epic games and EU third-party titles. |
| U.S. iPhone Fortnite player | No need. The Epic marketplace is unavailable, and Fortnite is available directly from Apple’s U.S. App Store. |
| Non-Fortnite iPhone owner | Probably not. The catalog is game-focused and does not offer cheaper versions of ordinary iPhone apps. |
| Japan iPhone owner | Possibly. The marketplace is available on iPhone, but not currently on iPad. |
| iPad owner outside the EU | Check carefully. Availability differs by country; Japan currently does not support the Epic marketplace on iPad. |
Epic advertises Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League Sideswipe, mobile giveaways, Epic Rewards, account features, chat, and two-factor authentication. Those are meaningful extras, but they do not turn the store into a general replacement for Apple’s App Store.
What the Epic Games Store actually is
The Epic Games Store marketplace is an alternative app marketplace installed from Epic’s website. It is separate from:

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- The Fortnite app: a game distributed through the marketplace in supported regions.
- Epic Games’ account and social features: including account management, chat, and authentication.
- Fortnite in the U.S. App Store: a separate Apple distribution route that does not give U.S. users access to the Epic marketplace.
Epic describes the iPhone store as a game marketplace, not a complete alternative App Store for productivity, photography, messaging, social, or utility software. Third-party games are available on iPhone and iPad in the EU, but the current public catalog is not broad enough to assume that every Epic PC game—or a large selection of mainstream mobile games—is available.
The confirmed Epic first-party lineup includes Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe. Check the live mobile catalog before installing, particularly if your main interest is a game other than Fortnite.
Where is it available?
| Region | iPhone | iPad | Fortnite route |
|---|---|---|---|
| European Union | Yes | Yes, subject to iPadOS requirements | Epic Games Store; AltStore PAL is another EU option |
| Japan | Yes | Not currently supported | Epic Games Store on iPhone |
| Brazil | Epic support documentation lists it as available | Verify current support | Epic route indicated by Epic |
| United States | No Epic marketplace | No Epic marketplace | Fortnite is available in the U.S. App Store |
| Most other countries | No official Epic marketplace route identified | No official route identified | Availability varies; cloud gaming may work |
Alternative app distribution depends on more than changing an App Store setting. Apple says your Apple Account country or region and your physical location must be in a supported territory. Epic’s regional information can change, so confirm your country on its current support page and use the official installer.
Brazil requires extra caution: Epic’s support documentation lists Brazil as supported, while its public mobile landing page has also described Brazil as a later rollout. Treat the support page and live installer as the practical check rather than assuming availability from a static list.

How to install it on a supported iPhone
Epic’s general mobile page lists iOS 17.6 or later for iPhone, iPadOS 18 or later for iPad, and an approximately 25 MB marketplace app. Epic’s installation instructions also describe newer OS-specific flows, including iOS/iPadOS 18.6 and 26.2 paths. Menu names therefore vary by version.
- Open Safari on the supported iPhone or iPad.
- Visit Epic’s official iOS installation page.
- Tap Install.
- If iOS opens Settings, approve Epic’s marketplace permission. Newer versions may call this Allow Apps from Epic Games Inc.; older supported versions may show Allow Marketplace from Epic Games.
- Return to Safari and confirm installation.
- Open the Epic Games Store, sign in to your Epic account, and choose a game.
The marketplace’s 25 MB size is not the storage requirement for Fortnite. Fortnite itself needs substantially more space, and your device must meet the game’s hardware requirements. The Fortnite listing is the better place to check supported device generations.
If installation fails
- Confirm that you are physically in a supported country.
- Confirm that your Apple Account region matches that country.
- Update to a supported iOS or iPadOS version.
- Start from Safari and Epic’s official domain.
- Approve the marketplace permission in Settings.
- Do not use an IPA mirror, unofficial sideloading site, or “cheap V-Bucks” seller.
Is Fortnite cheaper through Epic?
There is no evidence that Fortnite—or iPhone apps generally—are automatically cheaper through Epic. Epic advertises 5% to 20% Epic Rewards on eligible Epic Games Store purchases, but the reward rate, exclusions, taxes, payment processing, and promotions all affect the final value.
Epic’s marketplace may give developers more payment flexibility. Apple’s EU terms also permit alternative payment arrangements, while documenting commissions of 10% or 17%, a possible 3% payment-processing fee, and a €0.50 Core Technology Fee for qualifying high-volume apps. A lower platform fee can improve a developer’s economics without reducing the price paid by customers.

For a genuine comparison, use the same country, currency, item, tax treatment, and date. Compare the final price of the same V-Bucks package, then calculate any Epic Rewards separately. Do not compare a temporary promotion with a standard price or treat rewards as an immediate discount.
The strongest consumer benefit is therefore choice and access, especially native Fortnite access in the EU—not guaranteed savings.
What happens when you travel?
Regional restrictions are a major drawback. Epic’s current support information says users outside supported regions cannot install new apps from the Epic Games Store on iOS. Previously installed apps may continue to open but can eventually stop receiving updates; the latest cited Epic page says the grace period can be up to 90 days, while older information has stated 30 days.
This matters if you frequently travel, move your Apple Account to another country, or spend extended periods outside the EU, Japan, or Brazil. It also means the Epic store is not as geographically dependable as Apple’s App Store.

Security, support, and deletion
Apple says alternative-marketplace apps undergo Apple notarization, but notarization is a baseline security and integrity review—not the same storefront process as Apple’s App Store review. Apple does not operate the Epic marketplace and warns that its support for problems involving externally distributed apps is limited.
That does not make Epic’s store inherently unsafe, but it does create a different support relationship. Epic is responsible for its marketplace and its games; Apple may not be able to resolve every installation, billing, update, or app-function problem.
Deletion also matters. Apple warns that an app installed from an alternative marketplace could stop functioning if that marketplace is removed. Keep the marketplace installed if you depend on apps obtained through it, and do not assume deleting the storefront is equivalent to deleting a normal App Store app.
How it compares with the alternatives
Apple’s App Store
Apple remains the best choice for most iPhone owners: it has the largest catalog, familiar updates, centralized account management, and a well-established support model. It is also the practical Fortnite route for U.S. iPhone users because Fortnite is listed in the U.S. App Store.

AltStore PAL
AltStore PAL is another alternative marketplace for EU users. Epic identifies it as an EU Fortnite route, but it is not a Japan option. It makes sense for readers who specifically want another distribution channel, not for people seeking a broad catalog of ordinary iPhone apps.
Cloud gaming
Epic says Fortnite is available globally through cloud gaming. This can be the better option outside supported marketplace regions or on devices that cannot run the native app. The trade-off is dependence on a reliable connection, browser support, latency, data usage, and the provider’s current availability and terms.
Android
Epic’s store is available globally on Android subject to local restrictions, making Android materially more open to Epic’s marketplace than iPhone. That still does not guarantee lower prices, but it removes much of the regional distribution limitation found on iOS.
Final decision
Choose the Epic Games Store on iPhone if you live in a supported region, actively play Fortnite, want a native installation, and accept a second marketplace with separate update and support responsibilities. It is also worth considering for Epic account integration, eligible rewards, Fall Guys, Rocket League Sideswipe, or EU-only third-party games.

Availability and installation requirements can change. Check Epic’s live regional and installation pages before proceeding.
