The ASUS ROG Falchion Ace HFX is a wired 65% analog gaming keyboard built around first-generation ROG HFX magnetic switches. It offers adjustable 0.1–4.0 mm actuation, Rapid Trigger, Speed Tap, per-key RGB, dual USB-C ports and an 8,000 Hz polling rate. Its strongest use case is competitive FPS gaming, but the board’s wired-only design, non-hot-swappable switch platform, proprietary stabilizer considerations and ASUS software dependence matter before you buy.
ASUS announced the keyboard on September 18, 2024. It is not the newer ROG Falchion Ace 75 HE and should not be evaluated as though it uses that model’s HFX V2/V2X switches or hot-swappable design.

What makes the Falchion Ace HFX an analog keyboard?
Unlike a conventional mechanical keyboard, the ROG Falchion Ace HFX does not rely only on a fixed metal-contact actuation point. Its ROG HFX Magnetic Switches use magnetic, Hall-effect-style sensing to detect key position. Software can therefore interpret how far a key has moved and choose when that key registers.

That enables adjustable actuation from 0.1 to 4.0 mm. A low setting registers a press very early, which can suit fast gaming inputs. A higher setting requires more travel and can reduce accidental presses while typing. This is a firmware-and-software configuration feature, not a replacement for physically changing switches.

The 40 gf initial force should feel relatively accessible to users who prefer lighter switches, while the 55 gf total force gives the key a more substantial bottom-out than some very light gaming switches. Typing comfort remains personal: actuation that is excellent for rapid game inputs can be too sensitive for office work if set near its minimum.
Do not confuse these original HFX switches with the ROG HFX V2 or V2X switches used in newer ASUS keyboards. ASUS does not advertise standard Falchion Ace HFX switch hot-swapping, so the board should not be bought as a conventional switch-modification platform.

Rapid Trigger changes how a key resets. Instead of waiting for a conventional switch to return to a fixed reset point, the keyboard can register a new input as the key begins moving upward. That can help with repeated taps, counter-strafing and quick direction changes in competitive FPS games.
The keyboard has a physical switch marked RT and N:
- Set it to RT to enable Rapid Trigger.
- Set it to N to disable Rapid Trigger.
The important qualification is that Rapid Trigger affects W, A, S and D by default. ASUS says other keys can be configured through Armoury Crate or the current dedicated device software. A buyer expecting Rapid Trigger on every key immediately will need to change the configuration.
Rapid Trigger and actuation are different settings. Actuation determines when a key initially registers. Rapid Trigger determines how the key’s press and release movement is interpreted after that. They can be used together, but adjusting one does not automatically change the other.

Speed Tap and opposing directional inputs
Speed Tap is ASUS’s opposing-key prioritization feature. When opposing inputs such as A and D are detected, the most recently pressed direction is prioritized and the previous direction is automatically released. The goal is to reduce the neutral interval that can occur when both keys are held.
Speed Tap is off by default and can be toggled with:
Fn + TabThis may suit certain FPS movement and counter-strafing patterns, but it is not a universal improvement. It changes normal opposing-key behavior and may be undesirable in games or competitive environments where simultaneous inputs are expected to remain independent. Test it in the games you play before relying on it.
8,000 Hz polling: useful capability, not total latency
The keyboard supports an 8,000 Hz USB polling rate. In theoretical terms, that represents a 0.125 ms report interval. It does not mean the complete path from pressing a key to seeing a result on screen takes 0.125 ms.

Total input-to-photon latency also depends on switch sensing, firmware processing, USB implementation, operating-system scheduling, game-engine behavior, frame rate, graphics settings and display latency. ASUS separately presents an approximately 1.1 ms average wired click-latency figure on its product page; that is an ASUS claim, not independent testing.
In practice, 8,000 Hz is a high-end specification that reduces the keyboard’s theoretical USB reporting interval. It should not be treated as a guarantee of better aim or a visible advantage over every lower-polling keyboard.
65% layout and physical design
The 315 mm-long board is roughly the length of many compact 60% keyboards but retains dedicated arrow keys and a compact navigation arrangement. That makes it more practical than a true 60% board for games and everyday navigation while leaving more mouse space than a full-size or TKL keyboard.

The trade-off is the familiar 65% compromise: there is no conventional function row or number pad, and some commands require an Fn layer. Users with spreadsheet-heavy workflows, frequent function-key use or a preference for full navigation clusters should consider a larger layout.
Dual USB-C ports
The rear edge has two USB-C ports, one on each side. This gives the cable more routing flexibility and can support quick switching between two connected computers according to ASUS’s product description. It does not turn the keyboard into a wireless device and does not provide a full monitor-and-peripheral KVM.
Damping and mounting
ASUS lists a five-layer dampening construction consisting of:
- Silicone foam.
- PORON switch pad.
- PORON dampening foam.
- Silicone pad with gasket mount.
- Silicone strip.
The silicone gasket mount and dampening layers are intended to reduce pinging, vibration and harshness while providing a more cushioned feel. They do not guarantee a particular sound profile: keycap material, desk surface, room acoustics and typing force all affect the result.
Two pairs of feet provide three tilt configurations. The standard US package listing does not identify a dedicated wrist rest.

Touch panel and multifunction controls
The interactive touch panel and multifunction button can control functions such as actuation adjustment, media playback, volume and lighting. This is useful when making quick changes without opening the full software interface.
ASUS documents both all-key and per-key actuation adjustment with visual LED feedback. Keys assigned DKS functions cannot be adjusted through the touch panel in exactly the same way as ordinary actuation settings. Full remapping, macros and analog features still require the configuration software.

Keycaps, stabilizers and customization
ASUS describes the board as compatible with most keycaps through its walled-stem design, but the statement should not be read as guaranteed compatibility with every aftermarket keycap set.
Keycap material can vary by region. ASUS documentation describes ROG PBT doubleshot keycaps in some configurations and UV-coated ABS keycaps in others, so do not assume every regional unit has PBT caps.

Space, Shift and Enter use pre-lubricated stabilizers, but independent coverage has raised concerns about the board’s proprietary or unusual stabilizer implementation. Most switch-stem keycaps may fit, while full sets can fail around stabilized sizes or nonstandard parts. Check the exact spacebar, Shift and Enter dimensions before buying replacement keycaps.
Software, setup and firmware
For first setup:
- Connect the included USB Type-C cable to either rear USB-C port.
- Connect the USB-A end directly to the computer, preferably avoiding a hub during setup.
- Download the current software from ASUS’s Falchion Ace HFX support page.
- Update the keyboard firmware before judging actuation or Rapid Trigger behavior.
- Configure actuation, Rapid Trigger keys, profiles, RGB lighting, macros and analog functions.
Older documentation centers on Armoury Crate, while ASUS’s current support page also lists Armoury Crate Gear for the device. Use the software offered on the live support page rather than relying on an old review’s exact menu names.
The board supports all-key programming, per-key RGB, Aura Sync, macros, DKS, Mod Tap and analog lighting effects. ASUS software is therefore central to the keyboard’s feature set, which is a drawback for buyers who prefer web-based configuration or minimal background utilities.

The cover protects the board from dust and can also be placed underneath it as a tray-style mount. Package contents and keycap materials can vary by region, so verify the local listing when buying outside the US.
Compatibility and important limitations
Is it mechanical or Hall-effect?
It is not a conventional contact-based mechanical keyboard. ASUS calls the technology ROG HFX Magnetic Switches; “Hall-effect” or “magnetic analog” is the clearest general description.

Is it hot-swappable?
Do not assume so. ASUS does not advertise standard Falchion Ace HFX switch hot-swapping. The newer Falchion Ace 75 HE explicitly advertises a hot-swappable HFX V2/V2X platform, which is a significant difference.
Is it wireless?
No wireless mode is listed for the standard Falchion Ace HFX. It is a wired USB keyboard.
Does it work with macOS?
ASUS’s verified US listing specifies Windows 11. Basic USB keyboard input may work on another operating system, but full software, firmware, analog, RGB and profile support should not be assumed on macOS without a current ASUS compatibility statement.

Yes, ASUS says other keys can be configured, but only WASD are enabled by default. Additional keys require software configuration.
Troubleshooting actuation or Rapid Trigger problems
- Switch the physical control to N to disable Rapid Trigger and establish a normal-input baseline.
- Try the second USB-C port.
- Connect directly to a motherboard USB port instead of a hub.
- Install the current ASUS software and update firmware.
- Check whether the issue is limited to DKS, Speed Tap or other software-defined keys.
- Remove nearby magnetic objects if sensing appears unreliable; ASUS warns that magnetic objects can interfere with operation.
- Recheck per-key actuation settings after firmware or profile changes.
Falchion Ace HFX versus newer and competing keyboards

Price and buying advice

At $119.99, the keyboard is easier to recommend because it combines magnetic adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, Speed Tap, 8,000 Hz polling, dual USB-C ports and a compact 65% layout. At a price close to its $199.99 reference figure, the lack of wireless connectivity, hot-swappable switches and broad modding flexibility becomes more significant.

The Falchion Ace HFX makes the most sense if you want a compact 65% board for competitive FPS games, value adjustable analog actuation, want a physical Rapid Trigger control, need dedicated arrow keys, or can use the touch panel and dual USB-C layout. Its damped gasket construction and adjustable actuation also make it a potentially capable typing board if you avoid overly sensitive settings.
Choose another keyboard if you need wireless connectivity, a function row or number pad, easy switch replacement, unrestricted aftermarket keycap compatibility, broad macOS software support, or a newer and more flexible software platform. Buyers who want ASUS hardware but prefer a larger layout and hot-swappable HFX V2/V2X switches should start with the Falchion Ace 75 HE instead.
