Update: The original RTX 5070 Ti specification leak was published before NVIDIA announced the card. Its central claims were later confirmed: the desktop RTX 5070 Ti launched with 8,960 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR7, a cut-down GB203 GPU, and a 300W Total Graphics Power rating.

The card launched on February 20, 2025, with a $749 starting MSRP. Because the RTX 5070 Ti was sold through board partners rather than with a standard Founders Edition, real-world prices, dimensions, cooling, noise, and connectors vary by model.

Why 8,960 CUDA cores mattered

The leaked figure represented 1,280 more CUDA cores than the RTX 4070 Ti’s 7,680. That is an increase of approximately 16.7%:

  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
  • Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system
  • RTX 4070 Ti: 7,680 CUDA cores
  • RTX 5070 Ti: 8,960 CUDA cores
  • Difference: 1,280 CUDA cores

CUDA cores are parallel processors used for graphics and general-purpose compute workloads. More of them can increase potential shader throughput, but the number is not a direct frame-rate forecast. Blackwell and Ada CUDA cores are not interchangeable performance units, and gaming results also depend on clock speeds, cache, memory bandwidth, the game engine, ray tracing, drivers, CPU limitations, and whether DLSS or frame generation is enabled.

In other words, the 16.7% core increase made the RTX 5070 Ti’s specification look substantially stronger than the RTX 4070 Ti, but it did not guarantee a 16.7% gaming improvement.

What “300W GPU” actually means

NVIDIA’s final specification is 300W Total Graphics Power, or TGP. That is a graphics-card power target or rating; it is not the same as total system power measured at the wall. It should also not be casually treated as a universal TDP figure, since TDP is a thermal-design term that is used inconsistently in consumer GPU discussions.

The leak cycle included several competing figures. Early reports mentioned 285W, the headline figure cited 300W, and a later report discussed a possible 350W configuration. The released RTX 5070 Ti settled on 300W.

A 300W TGP is not extraordinary for a modern upper-midrange or high-end desktop graphics card, but it affects the rest of the build. Buyers need to consider:

  • Power-supply capacity and quality
  • Modern GPU power connectors and proper cable seating
  • Case airflow and cooler clearance
  • Card length, thickness, and connector-bend space
  • Noise differences between partner-card coolers

NVIDIA’s guidance places the RTX 5070 Ti family in the 750W-class PSU range. That is not a guarantee that every system needs exactly 750W, nor is it permission to use an old or low-quality unit. A carefully balanced system may operate with a lower-wattage, high-quality PSU, while a factory-overclocked card or power-hungry CPU may justify more headroom. Check the exact board-partner model before buying.

Power efficiency cannot be calculated from the spec sheet

It would be misleading to decide whether Blackwell is efficient by dividing 300W by 8,960 CUDA cores. Different architectures, clocks, workloads, and performance levels make that calculation meaningless as a gaming-efficiency measurement.

Actual consumption varies with the game, resolution, frame rate, ray-tracing settings, power limit, and individual card design. Independent testing also shows that measured board power can remain below the official rating in some workloads, while factory-overclocked models can draw more than a reference configuration. The useful comparison is measured performance per watt under the same test conditions, not TGP divided by core count.

16GB GDDR7 and 896GB/s bandwidth were just as important

The RTX 5070 Ti’s memory configuration was one of its strongest specifications:

  • 16GB GDDR7
  • 256-bit memory bus
  • 896GB/s theoretical bandwidth

That gave it more capacity and substantially more bandwidth than the RTX 4070 Ti’s 12GB GDDR6X and 192-bit interface. The extra memory is useful for high-resolution textures, ray tracing, some creator workloads, and applications that exceed a 12GB card’s practical headroom.

It does not make the card automatically future-proof. Demanding 4K games, ray-traced effects, large creator projects, and AI workloads can still exceed 16GB depending on settings and software. The memory advantage is meaningful, but it should be treated as additional headroom rather than a guarantee of long-term suitability.

RTX 5070 Ti compared with other GPUs

RTX 4070 Ti

Specification RTX 4070 Ti RTX 5070 Ti
Architecture Ada Lovelace Blackwell
CUDA cores 7,680 8,960
VRAM 12GB GDDR6X 16GB GDDR7
Memory bus 192-bit 256-bit
TGP 285W 300W
Launch price $799 $749

Against the RTX 4070 Ti, the RTX 5070 Ti offered more cores, more memory, a wider bus, much higher theoretical bandwidth, and a lower launch MSRP. Its rated power was only 15W higher. The comparison still does not establish a fixed gaming-performance percentage without controlled benchmarks.

RTX 4070 Ti Super

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is the more relevant previous-generation comparison because it also has 16GB of VRAM and a 285W board-power rating. The RTX 5070 Ti’s advantages are its newer Blackwell architecture, GDDR7 memory, 896GB/s bandwidth, and support for newer features including DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation.

That feature difference needs careful interpretation. A comparison using generated frames is not the same as a comparison of native rendering performance, and buyers should identify whether upscaling, ray tracing, and frame generation are enabled in any benchmark.

RTX 5080

The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 belong to the same broad GB203 family, but the 5070 Ti is a substantially cut-down configuration. The RTX 5080 has 10,752 CUDA cores, compared with 8,960 in the 5070 Ti, along with a higher power target and a higher launch price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using the same GPU family does not make the 5070 Ti a replacement for the RTX 5080. If a partner RTX 5070 Ti is priced close to an RTX 5080 in a particular market, the faster card becomes the more obvious choice—assuming the buyer’s PSU, case, and budget can support it.

RTX 5070

The RTX 5070 is a lower-power, lower-priced option, but it has 6,144 CUDA cores and 12GB of VRAM. The RTX 5070 Ti’s 16GB capacity and wider 256-bit memory interface make it the more comfortable choice for demanding high-refresh 1440p or selected 4K workloads, while the RTX 5070 may be preferable for buyers prioritizing lower power use or a smaller system.

AMD alternatives

AMD cards can be competitive in rasterized gaming performance or VRAM-per-dollar, depending on local pricing. The right alternative depends on more than average frame rates: ray-tracing performance, upscaling quality, frame-generation behavior, video encoding, creator applications, and the software a buyer uses can all change the decision. No universal AMD equivalent should be declared without specifying the market price and test conditions.

There was no standard RTX 5070 Ti Founders Edition

NVIDIA’s announcement listed Founders Edition cards for the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070, but not the RTX 5070 Ti. The 5070 Ti was sold through board partners.

That means “RTX 5070 Ti” describes the GPU platform, not one universal physical product. Partner cards can differ in:

  • Cooler size and thickness
  • Factory boost clocks
  • BIOS power limits
  • Noise and temperature behavior
  • Power-connector arrangement
  • Display outputs and case dimensions

Some models are designed for small-form-factor systems, while others use large triple-fan coolers. A card can satisfy the PSU requirement and still fail to fit a compact case or leave insufficient room for the power-cable bend.

Launch price versus what buyers actually paid

NVIDIA announced a $749 launch MSRP, but that was not a guarantee that every partner card would be available at that price. Launch coverage reported limited availability and partner models priced considerably higher, with some listings approaching or exceeding $900–$1,000 depending on the model and market.

The $749 figure should therefore be read as the official launch starting price, not as a current 2026 street-price claim. A buying decision today requires checking live prices for the exact model, including its cooler, warranty, dimensions, and measured acoustics.

Who should consider the RTX 5070 Ti?

The RTX 5070 Ti makes the most sense for someone who wants a modern high-performance Nvidia card with 16GB of VRAM, strong memory bandwidth, Blackwell features, and enough performance for high-refresh 1440p or selected 4K gaming with settings and upscaling chosen sensibly.

It is less compelling when:

  • The partner-card price approaches that of an RTX 5080.
  • A discounted RTX 4070 Ti Super delivers the required performance for much less.
  • The system uses a compact case that cannot accommodate a large 300W card.
  • The existing PSU is old, low-quality, or near its practical limit.
  • The buyer mainly plays lighter games that do not need this performance class.
  • The purchase relies on the $749 MSRP being available in the buyer’s market.

Bottom line

The RTX 5070 Ti leak was credible but unofficial when it appeared. In hindsight, its most important claims were accurate: the released card has 8,960 CUDA cores, a cut-down GB203 GPU, 16GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus, 896GB/s of bandwidth, and a 300W TGP.

The extra CUDA cores were significant, but they were not a standalone performance guarantee. The card’s wider memory subsystem and 16GB capacity were equally important, while the 300W rating made PSU quality, cooling, case clearance, and partner-card selection part of the buying decision. At its $749 launch MSRP it was positioned aggressively against the RTX 4070 Ti, but launch availability and partner pricing often mattered more than the headline price.
