Grand Theft Auto V returned to Xbox Game Pass on April 15, 2025, after Microsoft announced the addition on April 3. That historical announcement covered Xbox console editions and GTAV Enhanced on PC Game Pass. It does not, by itself, confirm that the game is currently in the Game Pass catalog or playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Check the live Xbox listing for your region and plan before subscribing.
When did GTA V return to Game Pass?
Microsoft announced on April 3, 2025, that Grand Theft Auto V would join Game Pass on April 15, 2025. The announcement named Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Standard, and PC Game Pass. Which versions were included?
The announcement covered console editions of Grand Theft Auto V and the PC versions. On PC, the newly highlighted release was GTAV Enhanced; Rockstar separately confirmed that it became available through PC Game Pass in the Xbox app on April 15, 2025. Rockstar’s PC announcement

Is GTA V currently available on Xbox Cloud Gaming?
The available Microsoft announcement confirms Game Pass additions but does not explicitly confirm Xbox Cloud Gaming availability. The evidence here therefore cannot establish whether the game is streamable now, which plan would be required, or whether it is available in every region. Game Pass inclusion and cloud streaming are distinct entitlements: a game can be downloadable through a plan without being cloud-enabled.
Check the official Xbox game listing while signed in and confirm that it offers a Play/stream option for your account and location. Microsoft says its catalog can vary by region, plan, platform, and time; the Game Pass catalog is the place to verify current inclusion. Do not infer cloud support from an old announcement, a PC download listing, or a third-party report.
Which Game Pass plans did Microsoft name?
For the April 2025 addition, Microsoft named Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Standard, and PC Game Pass. Its announcement said Ultimate and Standard members had access to console and PC editions, while PC Game Pass members could download both PC editions. Those are the entitlements Microsoft described at that time; they should not be read as a statement of current plan names or benefits.

Before subscribing, check the live listing and the current plan details for your country. In particular, confirm separately whether your plan covers the platform you want and whether it includes cloud play. No current price or removal date is established here.
What did GTA Online include?
Microsoft highlighted the Oscar Guzman Flies Again update, which added access to the McKenzie Field Hangar, arms-trafficking missions, new aircraft, and other GTA Online content. Its announcement said the update was available regardless of which version players used. For PC Enhanced, the announcement also called out Hao’s Special Works vehicles and modifications, Chameleon Paints, and other Enhanced features. These describe the 2025 announcement, not a promise about later updates or present catalog status.
Can you play GTA Online with friends on another edition?
Microsoft warned that players need to use the same edition to play together in GTA Online. Before joining friends, check whether each person is launching the compatible Legacy or Enhanced PC build, or the relevant console edition. Microsoft said players on different PC storefronts could play together when using the relevant PC edition; that does not establish universal cross-play between Xbox consoles, PC, and cloud sessions. What happens to access and progress?
Game Pass access is not ownership
Game Pass provides access while the game is in the catalog and your subscription has the required entitlement. If it leaves, or your subscription ends, that access no longer follows from Game Pass; you would need to buy an eligible edition to keep playing through a purchase license. Microsoft’s catalog notes that availability changes and presents purchase options for games leaving the service. Any price or member discount should be checked live.
PC account linking and migration
Rockstar requires an Xbox account to be linked to a Rockstar Games account to play Rockstar titles through the Xbox app on PC. The Xbox app and Rockstar Games Launcher may both be involved. Rockstar account-linking guidance
Rockstar’s PC upgrade information describes migration from Legacy to Enhanced, with an important limitation: after migrating, progress cannot be copied back to Legacy. It also says console-family profiles cannot be migrated to PC. Do not assume that console, PC, and cloud sessions share one automatically synchronized character or save. Should you subscribe or buy?
- Game Pass may suit you if the live catalog includes the edition and platform you want, you already have an eligible plan, and you want to try the game or play for a limited time.
- Buying may suit you if you expect to play long-term or do not want access to depend on a subscription and catalog rotation. Confirm the exact platform and edition before checkout; purchasing one version does not establish access to every PC, console, or cloud version.
Because catalog access and cloud support can change independently, verify both on the official Xbox listing before making either decision.
