Use the Logitech software officially listed for your exact device. G HUB is Logitech’s current platform for many newer Logitech G products; LGS remains a useful legacy option for compatible older hardware. They are not interchangeable, and onboard memory, macros, profiles, and lighting do not behave identically in both.
If you only need to configure supported mouse settings stored on the device, Logitech’s Onboard Memory Manager may be enough. For RGB across different brands, OpenRGB or SignalRGB may fit better—but neither should be assumed to replace Logitech’s full device controls.

Logitech’s documentation and supported-device lists can vary by model and may change. The table describes the software roles, not a universal compatibility promise.
Check your exact device before choosing
Compatibility matters more than which interface you prefer. A mouse, keyboard, headset, microphone, camera, or racing product may be supported by G HUB, LGS, both, or neither for a particular feature. Do not install an app just because it supports another device in the same product family.

- Find the exact product name and, if shown, revision on the device or its packaging.
- Open Logitech’s LGS support page or search for the model in Logitech Support.
- Check that model’s Downloads or Software section for the recommended application and operating-system support.
- Look for any model-specific firmware, receiver-pairing, or connection instructions before changing software.
- Install the listed utility and connect the device using the method Logitech specifies for it.
Connection method can matter: a wireless device may need its supplied receiver or USB cable for detection, setup, or firmware work. Logitech’s G HUB FAQ covers device detection, receiver connection, supported operating systems, downloads, and troubleshooting. Check it for current guidance rather than relying on an old compatibility chart.
How profiles and application detection differ
G HUB profiles
G HUB supports application-specific profiles, profile locking and duplication, and application blacklisting. Profile behavior can be configured separately for assignments and LIGHTSYNC, according to Logitech’s G HUB FAQ. This makes G HUB the more natural starting point when you use newer devices and want different controls or lighting for different games.
LGS profiles and Profiles To Go
LGS offers traditional profiles and application detection on compatible hardware. Logitech documents Profiles To Go for supported keyboards with onboard memory; this lets a compatible keyboard carry assignments for use on another computer where LGS is installed. It is a legacy workflow, not a feature available on every LGS device.

Application profiles are not the same as onboard profiles
Automatic application detection depends on the computer running the relevant software. Onboard memory stores a more limited configuration on the peripheral. Logitech’s G600 guidance distinguishes these modes and says application-specific profiles do not work in onboard-memory mode. The exact options depend on the device.
Macros, onboard memory, and settings that travel
When a macro stops working in onboard mode
A macro that works while G HUB is active may not work when the device is relying on its onboard profile. Logitech documents onboard-memory limitations for certain macro types, including Repeat While Holding, Toggle, and Sequence macros, as well as some text-and-emoji combinations and software-dependent behaviors. If a macro is important away from your main PC, test it with G HUB closed and, ideally, on another computer before relying on it. If it fails, disable onboard-memory mode and test with G HUB running. A simpler macro may work if the device supports it, but software-dependent behavior cannot be assumed to fit in hardware memory.

Enable G HUB onboard memory on a supported mouse
- Connect the mouse by its supplied USB cable or LIGHTSPEED receiver.
- Open G HUB and select the mouse.
- Open the gear/settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- Turn on On-Board Memory Mode.
- Choose a profile or memory slot, then configure settings the mouse supports.
- Test the saved profile with G HUB closed or on another computer.
These steps follow Logitech’s G HUB onboard-memory instructions. LGS has a separate process for supported mice: connect the mouse, open LGS, select it, open the Home tab, enable the onboard-memory toggle, and configure settings the device can store. See Logitech’s LGS instructions.

- Software profiles live on the computer and can depend on the utility being active.
- Onboard profiles live on the peripheral, but only for settings and behaviors it can store.
- Application switching, complex macros, lighting effects, and software integrations may not carry over when the device runs independently.
For supported Logitech G mice, Onboard Memory Manager instructions explain that onboard-memory mode must be enabled and that only some mice support the combination.
Lighting, other Logitech devices, and operating systems
RGB and LIGHTSYNC
For compatible modern Logitech G devices, G HUB is the Logitech-first choice for LIGHTSYNC effects and synchronization. LGS offers lighting controls for compatible older devices, but the two apps use different interfaces and effect systems; do not assume a lighting setup will transfer cleanly between them.

If you want one lighting controller for hardware from several brands, consider OpenRGB or SignalRGB. OpenRGB describes itself as free, open-source, and available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Support and feature depth still vary by device. SignalRGB supports Logitech and other major brands; its free-versus-Pro documentation distinguishes free features from optional paid capabilities. Neither alternative should be treated as a complete replacement for Logitech-specific assignments, headset controls, firmware workflows, or every advanced macro.
Headsets, microphones, cameras, and wheels
Do not choose LGS or G HUB based on mouse support and assume the same app handles every other peripheral you own. Check each exact model’s Logitech software listing for controls such as headset audio, microphone processing, camera options, or racing-product settings. G HUB’s FAQ covers current device categories and features, but model support remains the deciding factor.

Check the operating-system requirement on the support page for your model before installing. G HUB’s FAQ includes current supported-OS and offline-use information; setup, account-linked features, updates, and local configuration may have different requirements. OpenRGB advertises Windows, Linux, and macOS support, but that does not guarantee full control of a particular Logitech device on each platform.

Which should you use for your gaming setup?
- Newer Logitech G mouse, keyboard, headset, microphone, camera, or racing product: Start with G HUB if Logitech lists it for your exact model.
- Older device that is listed for LGS but not properly supported by G HUB: Keep using LGS, especially if your profiles and assignments already work.
- Competitive or multi-PC mouse setup: Use onboard memory only after confirming which DPI, button, lighting, and macro settings your model can save; test independently before a match or event.
- MMO or MOBA player relying on many assignments: Choose the app listed for your device, and verify that both application detection and any required macros work in your intended mode.
- RGB-focused multi-brand build: Try OpenRGB if open-source and cross-platform control are priorities; consider SignalRGB for its cross-brand lighting and integrations, accounting for its optional paid features.
- Streamer or microphone user: Favor the Logitech utility listed for the exact microphone or headset if you need its device-specific controls; RGB alternatives are not full audio-control substitutes.
- Existing legacy setup that works: There is no need to migrate solely because G HUB is newer. Move only if the device or a needed feature calls for it.
Switching software without losing your setup
Do not assume LGS profiles import into G HUB or that equivalent features behave the same way. Before changing applications, preserve settings you cannot easily recreate.
- Write down DPI stages, polling rate, button assignments, and profile names.
- Save or photograph macro logic and lighting settings that matter.
- Record which games or executables are associated with application profiles.
- Check Logitech’s current answer about using LGS with G HUB in the G HUB FAQ before installing both.
Having both utilities installed can complicate troubleshooting if they both try to control compatible hardware. If detection or settings become inconsistent, close or remove the conflicting utility, reboot, and test the device with the application Logitech specifies for it. Reinstalling is not a guaranteed fix, and a clean removal should come after simpler connection and compatibility checks.
Troubleshoot common G HUB and LGS problems
G HUB does not detect the device
- Confirm the exact model is supported by G HUB.
- Reconnect it directly to the computer rather than through an unpowered USB hub.
- For wireless hardware, test both the supplied USB cable and receiver if available.
- Restart G HUB, then reboot the computer.
- Check whether the receiver needs pairing or the device needs a firmware update.
- Close or remove other Logitech utilities that may also be controlling the device.
- Follow the current detection guidance in Logitech’s G HUB FAQ.
A game profile does not switch
- Check that the profile is linked to the game’s active executable, not just its launcher. Logitech notes this issue for the G600 in its application-detection guidance.
- Make sure a locked or persistent profile is not overriding the game profile.
- Confirm that onboard-memory mode is not active if you expect application-specific switching.
- Check whether the game and G HUB run with different privileges.
- Close other utilities that may control the same device.
A macro works in G HUB but not on the device alone
This can be expected if the macro uses a behavior unsupported in onboard-memory mode. Test with G HUB active, then compare with the relevant Logitech macro limitations. Turn off onboard-memory mode for software-side operation, or simplify the macro if the device supports a compatible version.

Lighting resets or changes unexpectedly
- Check whether a game or application profile is taking over the lighting.
- Make sure the onboard profile was saved to the intended slot.
- Check whether another RGB utility is controlling the device; running one primary RGB controller where possible reduces conflicts.
- Consider whether a software or firmware update changed device behavior.
Alternatives when you do not need the full suite
Onboard Memory Manager
Use it when your supported Logitech G mouse can store the settings you need—typically basic onboard configuration—and you would rather not keep the full G HUB interface open. It is not a substitute for rich RGB, application-linked profiles, headset equalization, microphone processing, game integrations, or complex software macros. Check Logitech’s OMM instructions for the model-specific process.
OpenRGB or SignalRGB
Choose OpenRGB for an open-source, cross-platform RGB option, or SignalRGB when cross-brand lighting and integrations suit your setup. Confirm support for your exact device and the functions you need; neither promises full parity with G HUB or LGS. SignalRGB’s feature availability is described in its plan documentation.
No utility after setup
If a device retains your required configuration in onboard memory, you may be able to close its configuration software after saving. Test that behavior first: settings that rely on application detection, software macros, or a background integration will not necessarily continue without the utility.
