Logitech G LIGHTSYNC is an RGB lighting system for compatible Logitech G devices, configured primarily through Logitech G HUB. It can provide static colors, animations, synchronized effects, audio-reactive lighting, screen sampling, and—in supported games—lighting tied to game events. It can add atmosphere and visual feedback, but it does not improve frame rate, input response, or aim. The features available depend on the specific device, software, and platform.
What LIGHTSYNC is—and what it is not
LIGHTSYNC brings together LEDs in compatible hardware, device firmware, G HUB software, and optional game or application integrations. The exact result varies: a keyboard may offer per-key lighting, while a mouse may expose only a logo or a few zones. “LIGHTSYNC-compatible” does not mean every effect works on every device.
It is also distinct from LIGHTSPEED. The names often appear together on product listings, but they describe different things:

A product can have LIGHTSPEED, LIGHTSYNC, both, or neither. LIGHTSYNC does not make a device wireless, and LIGHTSPEED does not create lighting effects. Logitech describes LIGHTSYNC as a combination of hardware, firmware, and software for responding to content, audio, screen colors, and inputs; see its LIGHTSYNC RGB guide.

What effects can it provide?

Screen sampling and native game integration are not the same. Sampling reacts to visible pixels; a native integration can receive information from the game itself. Neither is universal, and availability depends on the title, device, G HUB version, and platform.
Which devices support LIGHTSYNC?
Logitech G sells LIGHTSYNC-capable products across categories including keyboards, mice, headsets, speakers, microphones, streaming lights, and selected accessories. Catalog examples have included the G502 X PLUS mouse, G733 headset, G560 speakers, G522 headset, G515-series keyboards, and YETI GX microphone. Models and availability vary by region and change over time; browse the Logitech G catalog and the exact model’s specifications.
Check the product’s official specifications and support page before relying on a particular effect. Confirm the number and type of lighting zones, whether G HUB is required, and whether your operating system or console supports the controls you want. Older devices may use Logitech Gaming Software or offer reduced functionality in G HUB. A wireless device’s lighting may also affect battery runtime; the G935 specifications, for example, distinguish battery figures with lighting disabled and with default lighting.
Set up LIGHTSYNC with G HUB
- Verify compatibility. Check the product page or manual for LIGHTSYNC and G HUB support.
- Install G HUB. Get the application from Logitech’s official G HUB support page.
- Connect the device. For initial setup, connect it directly to the computer if possible. For wireless products, make sure the receiver is connected and the device is paired.
- Open the device in G HUB. Select it on the home screen, then find its LIGHTSYNC, RGB, or lighting controls. Labels and available options vary by device and software version.
- Choose an effect. Start with a preset or create a custom effect if the device supports it. Adjust zones, colors, brightness, or animation settings exposed by that product.
- Choose where it applies. Keep the effect global or associate it with a game or application profile. G HUB can manage profiles and presets, as described in Logitech’s G HUB Basics.
- Test it in context. Try the game, audio, or video you intend to use. Confirm the expected profile is active and save or lock it if another application changes the lighting unexpectedly.
For a basic static or animated effect, the device should respond after selection or saving. A game profile depends on G HUB detecting the right application and profile; a game-specific lighting integration also requires support from that title.

Build profiles around how you use your setup
Competitive gaming
Use a dim, static color or a restrained two-color layout. If the keyboard supports per-key control, highlight only the controls you need. Fast animation can draw attention away from the game; lighting is not a substitute for the HUD or an accessibility feature.
Single-player games
A slow effect using the game’s palette can add ambience. Try native game integration if the title supports it, or screen sampling as a broader alternative. Keep brightness moderate and avoid rapid flashes if they are distracting.
Streaming
Coordinate colors across compatible keyboard, mouse, headset, microphone, and lighting hardware, but check the result through your camera. Flicker, bright transitions, and reflections can look different on camera than they do in person. RGB synchronization is not a replacement for good microphone placement, camera framing, or suitable continuous lighting.

Use the audio visualizer for PC playback or screen sampling to echo a movie’s colors. Lower brightness and sensitivity for long sessions. If notifications, voice chat, or unrelated browser audio affect an audio-reactive effect, it may be responding to system output rather than only the app you care about.

Audio visualizer and screen sampling: trade-offs
Audio visualization maps computer audio to lighting behavior; it changes the lights, not the sound quality. It may respond to all system output, so notification sounds, chat, or another application can influence the result. Check the selected audio output and any G HUB permissions or device-specific settings if it does not react as expected. Logitech identifies an audio visualizer as a LIGHTSYNC mode in its LIGHTSYNC guide.
Screen sampling reads colors from areas of the display and reproduces them on compatible lights. It is an approximation of visible colors, not a direct signal from the game engine. Dark scenes may produce little light; bright flashes may be uncomfortable. Multiple monitors, fullscreen behavior, protected video, overlays, or capture software can affect results. For these reasons, sampling may be less precise or responsive than a native game integration.
Game integrations and developer support
Some games can communicate with LIGHTSYNC through integrations or developer tools. Logitech’s Partner Developer Lab documents SDK support and examples involving titles such as Star Wars: Battlefront II, Battlefield 1, and Final Fantasy XIV. These examples show that integrations exist; they are not a current, complete compatibility list.
Before expecting game-event lighting, verify that the particular game currently supports Logitech G integration, whether it requires G HUB and a PC, and what kinds of events it exposes. Support can change with game or software updates. If no integration is available, screen sampling may still provide ambient color matching, but it cannot infer game state from pixels alone.

Windows 11, macOS, and console differences
Windows 11 and Dynamic Lighting
Windows Dynamic Lighting can take control of supported RGB devices at the operating-system level. Logitech says that when Dynamic Lighting is enabled for an affected device, G HUB may not be able to configure LIGHTSYNC. To return control to G HUB:
- Open Windows Settings and go to Dynamic Lighting.
- Select the affected Logitech device.
- Disable Windows control for that device, or turn off Dynamic Lighting globally if that better suits your setup.
- Return to G HUB and test the lighting again.
Windows menu labels can vary by release and language, and not every Logitech G device supports Dynamic Lighting. See Logitech’s guidance on LIGHTSYNC and Dynamic Lighting and its note on lighting changes after Windows or G HUB updates.
macOS
G HUB is available for macOS, but do not assume it offers the same controls as Windows for every device. Consult the product’s support page and the current G HUB information for your Mac and device. Logitech’s G HUB support hub lists macOS loading issues separately from other troubleshooting topics.

Console compatibility is model-specific. A peripheral may work for basic audio or input while PC-only lighting, profiles, equalizer, surround, or other customization is unavailable. Logitech’s G935 product specifications illustrate how functionality can differ between PC and consoles. Check the exact product’s compatibility section rather than assuming that LIGHTSYNC branding means full console control.

Troubleshoot common LIGHTSYNC problems
- Confirm the device supports the feature. Check the exact model, not just the brand or product family. Some products have RGB but not G HUB control, or offer fewer effects than others.
- Check the connection. Connect directly to the computer for testing, reseat the cable or receiver, and verify that a wireless device is paired.
- Restart G HUB. Close and reopen it, then check whether the device appears. If prompted, review software or firmware updates.
- Check the active profile. A global setting may be overridden by a game profile, or the intended application may not be detected. Confirm which profile is active and that the game is assigned correctly.
- Check Windows Dynamic Lighting. If G HUB controls are unavailable or lighting changed after an update, inspect Windows’ settings for the affected device and disable Windows control if you want G HUB to manage it.
- Check synchronization compatibility. One device may not support the selected effect or zone layout. Make sure the devices use the same controlling software and profile.
- Use Logitech’s troubleshooting guidance. Its G HUB support hub includes device detection, pairing, LIGHTSPEED receiver, profile, Dynamic Lighting, and macOS troubleshooting topics.
Reinstalling G HUB is a later step, not the first one: document or preserve important profiles before changing the installation. If the product is supported but remains undetected, follow the model-specific Logitech support steps.
Is LIGHTSYNC worth choosing?
LIGHTSYNC is a useful extra when you already want Logitech G hardware and value coordinated color, ambience, or supported game feedback. It is less compelling if you want a mixed-brand setup with one control app, dislike background configuration software, or would rarely use lighting.
- Choose for the core device first. Prioritize mouse sensor and weight, keyboard layout and switches, headset comfort and sound, or speaker suitability. RGB should not make you accept a poor fit in the product’s main job.
- Match effects to the hardware. Per-key lighting is more flexible than a logo or single zone; screen sampling and audio visualization add software dependencies; native game effects are the most title-dependent.
- Consider platform and battery life. Windows PC generally offers the broadest configuration. Mac and consoles may have fewer features, and lighting can reduce runtime on wireless gear.
- Plan for your ecosystem. LIGHTSYNC is most valuable with compatible Logitech G devices. A mixed-brand setup may mean separate vendor apps or a different lighting-control approach.
- Consider comfort. Static, dim, or disabled lighting can be better for concentration and long sessions than bright, fast animation.
Windows Dynamic Lighting is an alternative for people seeking operating-system-level control over supported devices, but it can conflict with G HUB’s LIGHTSYNC controls. Other vendors’ RGB software may suit a different-brand setup; dedicated bias lighting may be a better choice for steady screen ambience. For a minimalist setup, no-RGB hardware avoids software layers and lighting-related battery use.
