At that price, the card was attractive for buyers seeking more performance than an RTX 5060 Ti. However, its 12GB of VRAM, seller terms, system compatibility, and today’s competing GPU prices matter more than the small factory overclock.

What was the RTX 5070 deal?
The offer covered the MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Shadow 2X OC through Amazon U.S. HotHardware reported the price at $499.99 on October 16, 2025, compared with NVIDIA’s $549 baseline MSRP for the RTX 5070. That is an exact difference of $49.01, commonly rounded to $50, or roughly 9%.

Why the MSRP comparison needs context
The $549 figure is NVIDIA’s baseline MSRP, not a promise that every RTX 5070 partner card normally sells for exactly that amount. MSI and other board partners set prices based on their cooler, board design, power delivery, factory tuning, distribution costs, retailer margins, and promotions.
That made the reported offer notable: a custom MSI card was priced below the baseline associated with NVIDIA’s own reference-style model. But “below MSRP” does not automatically mean “best GPU value.” A faster card may have fallen close in price, or a competing model may offer more memory or better performance for the same money.
What does MSI’s Shadow 2X OC add?
The MSI model is a partner-board RTX 5070 with a two-fan Shadow 2X cooler and a modest factory overclock. HotHardware listed a stock boost clock of 2,542MHz, 30MHz above the reference figure cited in its report. MSI Center’s Extreme Performance mode can raise the listed boost to 2,557MHz, or 45MHz above that reference.
Those clock increases are small. They should be treated as a minor bonus rather than a meaningful performance differentiator. Actual boost behavior depends on temperature, power limits, workload, and the individual card, so the overclock does not guarantee a fixed percentage increase in frame rates.

The important drawback: 12GB of VRAM
The RTX 5070 has 12GB of VRAM. That is enough for many current gaming setups, but it is also the card’s most important limitation for buyers planning to keep it for several years.
Memory pressure is more likely at higher resolutions, with demanding ray tracing, large texture packs, heavily modded games, or future titles designed for newer hardware. Running out of VRAM can cause texture compromises, stuttering, or reduced settings even when the GPU still has considerable compute performance available.

Was $499.99 a good price?
Yes, conditionally. At $499.99, the RTX 5070 offered a meaningful discount from NVIDIA’s baseline MSRP and a higher performance tier than the RTX 5060 Ti. It was especially compelling for a buyer who wanted NVIDIA’s software and ray-tracing ecosystem, had a suitable system, and was comfortable with 12GB of VRAM.
The original comparison placed the RTX 5070 deal roughly $70 above a 16GB RTX 5060 Ti in that October 2025 market snapshot. That price relationship is historical and should not be reused as a current comparison.
Today’s decision should instead compare the live price of the RTX 5070 with RTX 5060 Ti 16GB cards, RTX 5070 Ti models, Radeon RX 9070-class cards, and remaining previous-generation inventory. Exact current prices were not established by the original deal report.
Who should buy it?
- Buy the RTX 5070 if the active price is near or below $549, you want stronger performance than an RTX 5060 Ti, and 12GB is sufficient for your games and settings.

If the current card is still near $499.99, it is worth serious consideration for a compatible system whose owner accepts the 12GB VRAM limit. If it costs substantially more, compare current RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, and Radeon alternatives before buying.
