The GameSir X4 launched in China on April 14, 2024, as a detachable Android mobile controller with physically swappable ABXY buttons and app-based remapping. The product is now sold internationally as the GameSir X4 Aileron Xbox Mobile Gaming Controller. Its two halves can join for carrying or separate around a phone, but the unusual design comes with important trade-offs: it is wireless, Android-focused, lacks vibration according to current product information, and may not suit every phone, case, or hand.
What is the GameSir X4?
GameSir introduced the X4 as a Microsoft-authorized mobile controller aimed particularly at Android gaming and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The original China launch price was 559 yuan, approximately $77 at the time of reporting. Internationally, buyers are most likely to find the same product under the name GameSir X4 Aileron.
The naming matters when comparing prices and availability. The 559-yuan figure was a China launch price in 2024, not a current worldwide retail price. GameSir’s U.S. store lists the X4 Aileron at $99.99 as checked on August 18, 2026. Prices, stock, shipping, and regional return policies can vary.

GameSir’s 2024 launch coverage describes the detachable configuration, magnetic ABXY buttons, and Xbox Cloud Gaming positioning. The current official product page identifies the international product as the X4 Aileron.
How the detachable design works
In its joined configuration, the X4 resembles a compact gamepad. For gaming, the halves separate and sit on either side of the phone, leaving an open central area rather than clamping the handset inside a telescoping frame.
That arrangement can be useful for travelers and for phones or accessories that are awkward with a fixed USB-C controller. It also makes the controller easier to pack than a full-length gamepad. GameSir lists assembled dimensions of approximately 120 × 104.6 × 42.7 mm and a weight of about 190 g.
However, “detachable” does not mean that each half is automatically a complete standalone controller. The halves can be separated and used in certain configurations, but support depends on the operating mode and the game. A single half should not be assumed to behave like a conventional full controller in every title.
Phone fit is more complicated than width alone
The official compatibility range is for phones measuring 68–95 mm wide and up to 12.5 mm thick. Those figures are useful starting points, not a guarantee that every handset will fit.
Before buying, check for:
- the thickness of the protective case;
- large or protruding camera islands;
- side buttons positioned where the controller grips;
- foldable or unusually shaped phones;
- attached coolers, grips, or wireless-charging accessories; and
- uneven phone thickness.
A phone inside the published measurements may still be physically unsuitable once its case and camera hardware are included. The open layout may leave more room around some accessories than a telescopic controller, but it does not eliminate clearance problems.
What “customizable layouts” means
The X4’s layout customization has two separate meanings: physical button placement and software remapping. They solve different problems.

Physically swappable ABXY buttons
The face buttons are magnetic and can be removed and rearranged. The purpose is to support familiar Xbox and Switch-style physical layouts. This is useful for players who are accustomed to seeing a particular letter in a particular position.
Moving a button does not necessarily change the input the game receives. A title may still interpret inputs according to Xbox labels, Nintendo-style labels, or generic button numbers. Therefore, physical rearrangement should be treated as a labeling and muscle-memory feature, not as a universal game-mapping system.
Software customization through the GameSir app
The GameSir app provides software controls such as button remapping, stick sensitivity or dead-zone adjustment, trigger configuration, profiles, RGB-lighting settings, and supported firmware management. Exact app screens and menu names can change with app and firmware updates, so buyers should check the current version rather than rely on a permanent menu path.
App-based mapping is also mode- and game-dependent. Native controller support is generally the simplest option. Touch-mapping features may require additional permissions or setup and may not work with every game, overlay, competitive title, or anti-cheat system.

GameSir and launch materials also cite a five-million-click rating for the microswitches. That is a manufacturer-rated durability claim, not an independently verified endurance test. Similarly, Hall Effect sensors can reduce one common wear-related cause of stick drift, but they do not guarantee that a controller will remain permanently accurate or free from every hardware fault.
Connectivity, charging, and game support
The X4 Aileron is principally a wireless Android controller. Bluetooth avoids the need to align a connector with the phone and makes the split configuration possible, but it also means pairing and charging are part of the setup. The controller contains two batteries rather than one, so both halves become part of the charging routine.
The X4 is not a standard wired USB-C telescopic controller that plugs directly into the phone like applicable Backbone models. That is one of its clearest practical differences. GameSir lists pass-through charging, but buyers should still confirm the exact charging arrangement and regional product information before purchase.

Compatible use cases include:
- native Android games with standard gamepad support;
- Xbox Cloud Gaming and other compatible cloud services;
- emulators that recognize the controller’s input mode; and
- some touchscreen games through GameSir mapping features, where supported.
It does not work automatically with every Android game. Cloud gaming also remains subject to network latency: a controller cannot remove delay caused by the internet connection or streaming service. Competitive games may restrict overlays or virtual-input tools, while some games simply do not expose controller support.
The original launch reporting discussed Android and PC compatibility, but the current international product page emphasizes Android. PC use should therefore be treated as connection- and software-dependent rather than as the main reason to buy this model.
Price and availability
The original GameSir X4 announcement was a China launch on April 14, 2024, at 559 yuan. The international retail name is X4 Aileron, and GameSir’s U.S. store listed it at $99.99 when checked on August 18, 2026.
These figures should not be combined into a single “current price.” Regional taxes, shipping, promotions, stock, and return terms can change. GameSir’s product page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee for undamaged returns, but buyers should verify the live policy and shipping availability for their country before ordering.
The main advantages
- Compact storage: the halves join into a smaller package than many conventional controllers.
- Physical layout choice: magnetic ABXY buttons can be arranged for Xbox- or Switch-style muscle memory.
- Modern control hardware: Hall Effect sticks and triggers, microswitch face buttons, adjustable trigger modes, and two rear buttons are included.
- Flexible phone placement: the open split design can be more convenient than a fixed bridge for some phones and accessories.
- Android and Xbox focus: the product is positioned for Android gaming and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Personalization: the GameSir app adds remapping, profiles, sensitivity controls, trigger settings, and RGB adjustments where supported.
The drawbacks to consider
Wireless-only phone operation
Bluetooth makes the X4 flexible, but it introduces pairing and battery management. Someone who wants to pick up a controller and play without charging two halves may prefer a wired telescopic design.

No vibration listed
The current official product information does not list vibration, and third-party coverage specifically notes its absence. Players who expect rumble or console-like haptic feedback should not assume the X4 provides it.
Unusual ergonomics
A split controller is not automatically more comfortable. TechRadar’s review describes the controller as capable while raising ergonomic concerns related to its asymmetrical arrangement. The hand position may suit some players and feel unnatural to others, particularly during long sessions.

The best choice depends on whether portability and modularity matter more to you than a familiar full-size grip. If possible, buy from a seller with a clear return policy.
App and mode complexity
Different connection or input modes can affect recognition, mapping, and game compatibility. Anecdotal user reports describe situations in which a phone paired with the controller but the GameSir app did not recognize it correctly, or where switching modes caused confusion. These reports do not establish a product-wide failure rate, but they are a reason to keep the controller, app, firmware, and phone operating system updated.

The official listing specifies two 400-mAh batteries, one per half, but the main product page does not establish a universally applicable runtime figure. Usage, lighting, connection mode, and firmware can affect endurance. A retailer-style listing has cited approximately four to five hours, but that figure should not be treated as an independently tested result.
Who should buy the X4 Aileron?
- Android cloud gamers: a good match if wireless play, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and a compact carrying format are priorities.
- Frequent travelers: the joined halves are easier to pack than a conventional full-size controller.
- Players who switch between Xbox and Switch conventions: the physical ABXY arrangement is more useful than software labels alone.
- Players wanting rear controls: two mappable back buttons can help with compatible games and profiles.
- Players with a compatible phone but awkward accessories: the open center may be more accommodating than a fixed telescopic bridge, though clearance still needs to be checked.
Who should consider another controller?
- iPhone owners: the current official listing identifies the X4 Aileron as an Android controller.
- Wired-connection buyers: choose a compatible USB-C or Lightning telescopic model if direct phone connection is essential.
- Players who require vibration: vibration is not listed as an X4 Aileron feature.
- Users with thick cases, foldables, coolers, or unusual camera bumps: published dimensions may not reflect real-world clearance.
- Players who prefer a conventional full-size grip: the split and asymmetrical layout may be less comfortable than a traditional controller.
- Multi-platform buyers: the X4 is not the obvious choice for someone seeking equally straightforward Android, iPhone, PC, and console support.
How it compares with the main alternatives
The relevant comparison is not simply which controller has the longest feature list. It is whether you prefer portability and customization or a conventional grip and connection.

Verdict
The GameSir X4 Aileron is best understood as a portability-and-customization experiment rather than a universal replacement for every mobile controller. It makes the strongest case for Android players who want a compact wireless controller, physical Xbox/Switch button options, Hall Effect controls, and a design that separates around the phone.
Its limitations are equally important: the controller is Android-focused, wireless, potentially less familiar ergonomically, not listed with vibration, and sensitive to phone-case fit. If you want the most conventional experience, direct wired phone connection, or broad multi-platform flexibility, a Backbone, Razer Kishi, or full-size GameSir model may be a better fit. If your priority is carrying the smallest adaptable controller package and your phone falls within the real-world fit limits, the X4 Aileron is one of the more distinctive Android options available.
