Yes, Microsoft Edge has a built-in surfing game. Microsoft released Edge Surf on May 26, 2020, beginning with Edge 83.0.478.37. Inspired by the classic Windows game SkiFree, it can still be launched by entering edge://surf in Microsoft Edge.
It is not a downloadable standalone game or a normal website. It is an Edge-internal feature that can also work as an offline diversion, although availability varies by platform, browser version, and administrator policy.
How to launch Edge Surf
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the address bar.
- Enter
edge://surf. - Press Enter.
- Choose a character and select a game mode from the opening screen.
Microsoft’s current Surf page confirms the direct launch address. Edge may also offer a link to Surf from its offline page when an internet connection is unavailable, but entering edge://surf directly is the more reliable method.
What is Microsoft Edge Surf?
Surf is a continuous surfing game in which players steer through water while avoiding islands, other surfers, and additional obstacles. In Endless mode, the Kraken becomes a major pursuing hazard. Hearts provide extra lives, while boosts temporarily increase speed.

Microsoft described Surf as being inspired by SkiFree. It is not a remake of that Windows classic: Surf reinterprets the familiar avoid-the-pursuer concept with a surfing setting, multiple modes, modern input support, and accessibility options.
The feature became permanent after Microsoft said Edge Insiders asked for the earlier Easter egg to be developed into a fuller offline game. The original announcement is available on the Microsoft Edge Blog.
The three game modes
Endless
Endless mode asks you to travel as far as possible. Avoid obstacles, manage your lives, and stay ahead of the Kraken. The run ends when you run out of lives or are caught.

Time Trial
Time Trial uses a fixed course and challenges you to finish as quickly as possible. Collecting coins can reduce your final time, making route choice and repeated attempts important.
Zig Zag
In Zig Zag mode, you must pass through gates consecutively. Missing a gate resets the streak, and the game continues until your lives are exhausted.
Controls and supported devices
Microsoft says Surf supports keyboard, mouse, touch, Xbox controllers, PlayStation controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro controllers, and the Xbox Adaptive Controller. Controller haptic feedback is also supported according to Microsoft’s launch announcement.

Because control instructions can vary by input method and device, open the game’s settings menu to see the exact controls available in your version. Do not assume that a keyboard layout or controller behavior is identical across desktop and mobile editions.

Accessibility and comfort options
Surf includes a High visibility mode that highlights collision or hit boxes around objects, making hazards easier to read. Reduced speed mode slows the game and can make timing easier.
Microsoft also announced screen-reader and high-contrast support, alongside compatibility with the Xbox Adaptive Controller. The exact experience can vary by device and browser version.

High scores and documented secrets
Each mode keeps its own high-score record, and Edge can notify you when you set a new personal record. The settings menu also includes an option to reset your statistics.
Microsoft’s current Surf page describes several hidden surprises, including rescuing a friend in Endless mode for temporary protection from pursuers, a main-menu cheat code that can provide unlimited hearts and boosts, and an iconic playable character. Since hidden inputs and Easter eggs can change between builds, Microsoft’s documentation confirms their existence but should not be treated as a permanent guide to an exact cheat sequence.

Make sure you are using Edge
edge://surf is a browser-internal Edge address. It is not expected to open in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or another browser.

Update the browser
The original release required Edge 83.0.478.37 or later. Microsoft’s current policy documentation lists Windows and macOS support beginning with Edge 83.
Check whether the device is managed
Schools, employers, and other organizations can disable Surf with Microsoft Edge’s AllowSurfGame policy. When disabled, the policy blocks both offline access and navigation to edge://surf.
On Windows, the policy is associated with SOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge and the value name AllowSurfGame. If an administrator changes the policy, Microsoft says Edge must be restarted; the setting does not refresh dynamically.
Check platform support
Microsoft’s current policy table lists Windows and macOS support from Edge 83, iOS support from Edge 146, and Android as unsupported. That means the desktop instructions should not be treated as a promise of identical behavior on every phone or tablet. Microsoft also cautions that availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
Is Edge Surf really a “secret” game?
“Secret” is a fair description of its low-profile placement, since the game is launched through an internal browser address rather than a prominent menu. But it is an official Microsoft feature, not an unauthorized Easter egg or a newly released 2026 game. The announcement dates to May 26, 2020; Microsoft’s current pages continue to document Surf as an Edge feature.
