MSI’s Crosshair 16 HX Monster Hunter Edition is a real limited-edition gaming laptop launched from a 2024 collaboration with CAPCOM—not a new 2026 notebook. It combines a Rathalos-themed design with an Intel Core i7-14700HX processor, RTX 4060 Laptop GPU and 16-inch QHD+ 240Hz display. In 2026, availability and pricing depend heavily on the country, SKU and whether the machine is leftover, refurbished or used.
What MSI actually announced
MSI announced its collaboration with CAPCOM on January 5, 2024, as part of the Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary celebrations. The CES 2024 presentation introduced themed concept hardware and a planned limited-edition product range; it should not be treated as a universal retail release date. MSI later announced that the collection was moving into market launch.
The Crosshair 16 HX was the notebook in a wider Monster Hunter collection that also included themed graphics cards, monitors, motherboards, PC cases, liquid coolers and controllers. Monster Hunter design details
The special edition is more than a standard Crosshair laptop with a simple sticker. Confirmed design elements include:

MSI also promoted a regional phone-pouch or “potion” redemption campaign for registered Monster Hunter products. Such promotions require checking the country-specific terms and proof-of-purchase requirements. The official material does not establish that every laptop includes a copy of a Monster Hunter game, so buyers should not assume a game license is part of the package.

MSI’s global specification page is useful for the platform overview, but the exact configuration must be verified against the seller’s model number. Specification sheets differ in memory speed, Bluetooth version, operating system, warranty and bundled software.
Regional SKUs are not identical
The product-family name does not guarantee one universal configuration.

These details come from MSI’s U.S. specification sheet, Canadian sheet and Indian specifications. Check the exact SKU before comparing prices or assuming a particular Windows edition, RAM capacity or warranty.
Gaming performance: strong 2024 hardware, not a 2026 flagship
The Core i7-14700HX is a high-power 14th-generation processor designed for demanding workloads rather than maximum efficiency. The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU is a capable midrange option for high-refresh-rate 1080p gaming and QHD gaming with sensible settings, upscaling or both.
The 2560×1600, 240Hz display is one of the laptop’s most attractive specifications, but it also needs realistic expectations. An RTX 4060 will not drive every modern AAA game at native QHD+ resolution, ultra settings and 240 frames per second. The high refresh rate is easier to exploit in competitive or less demanding games. DLSS and other RTX features can improve playable frame rates, but MSI’s performance language should not be mistaken for independent benchmark testing.

There are no verified independent benchmarks in the available evidence for this specific edition. Therefore, frame rates, temperatures, fan noise and battery-runtime figures should not be quoted as established results. Actual performance depends on power mode, firmware, cooling, game settings and whether the laptop is plugged in.
Cooling, ports and upgradeability
MSI markets its Cooler Boost 5 system with two fans, five heat pipes and six exhausts. The regional product material also describes a shared pipe between the CPU and GPU, discrete-graphics operation and a full-power GPU configuration. These features indicate a performance-oriented design, but they do not prove a particular noise level or sustained clock speed. A high-power HX processor and 140W-class GPU should be expected to produce substantial heat and fan activity under load.
The chassis includes three USB-A ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort and USB Power Delivery, HDMI 2.1, RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet and a combined audio jack. Networking includes Gigabit Ethernet and Intel Wi-Fi 6E. The 720p webcam has a physical privacy shutter, with 3D noise reduction listed on newer specification sheets.

Two RAM slots and two M.2 positions make the platform more flexible than a fully soldered gaming notebook. However, “up to 96GB” describes the platform’s maximum capability, not the memory installed in every retail unit. The same applies to the second, Gen5-compatible M.2 slot: verify what is populated before buying.
Release dates and availability
- January 5, 2024: MSI announced the CAPCOM collaboration and CES debut context.
- 2024: MSI issued a broader market-launch announcement for the limited-edition collection.
- June 7, 2024: MSI Japan announced the specific Crosshair 16 HX Monster Hunter Edition for sale in Japan.
- July 4, 2024: Indian coverage reported local availability.
MSI’s Japan notice confirms the June 7 date. Regional MSI product and support pages remain accessible in 2026, but a live product page does not prove current stock. The U.S. document confirms that a U.S. SKU existed; it does not establish that the machine is still sold there.

Price
The clearest reported launch-price figure is INR 167,990 in India, reported in July 2024. That is a historical Indian starting price, not a current 2026 price, global MSRP or valid basis for a direct currency conversion. No authoritative current U.S. retail price was verified.

For a current purchase, compare the seller’s exact SKU with a similarly configured standard Crosshair or another RTX 4060 gaming laptop. Any premium should be judged separately: the themed design may have collector value, but it does not add GPU performance.

- Collectors able to find new old stock at a reasonable price.

Buying checklist for old stock, imports and used units
- Record the full model number, not just “Crosshair 16 HX Monster Hunter Edition.”
- Confirm the installed RAM, SSD, Windows edition, display specification and GPU power configuration.
- Check keyboard layout, charger plug and electrical compatibility if the unit is imported.
- Verify warranty territory, accidental-damage coverage and whether the seller is authorised.
- Ask whether the machine is new old stock, refurbished or used, and confirm the return policy.
- Inspect the battery condition, lid engraving, ports, screen and original accessories for used units.
- Do not assume a Monster Hunter game or promotional “potion” accessory is included; confirm any redemption deadline separately.
