The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless is a real upgrade to the Cloud III Wireless, but its two biggest headline claims need translation: the “modular” design primarily means removable magnetic earcup plates, while the “up to 200 hours” battery figure applies to Bluetooth. Over the low-latency 2.4GHz USB connection used for gaming, HyperX rates it for up to 120 hours.
It launched in the United States on May 12, 2025, at $179.99. HyperX’s US store listed it at $139.99 on August 18, 2026, although prices and promotions can change.
What is new about the Cloud III S Wireless?
The Cloud III S Wireless is a closed-back, over-ear gaming headset built around the Cloud III Wireless platform. Its main additions are Bluetooth 5.3, Instant Pair support for select OMEN laptops, and removable magnetic earcup plates that allow cosmetic customization.

HyperX lists the headset for PC, Mac, PS5, mobile devices, and Nintendo Switch. HP’s US listing also names PS4. Xbox is not listed in the current Cloud III S specifications reviewed here, so Xbox buyers should confirm support for the exact regional model before purchasing.

Battery life explained: 120 hours for gaming, 200 hours for Bluetooth

The 200-hour figure is therefore not the normal gaming-dongle rating. Competitive players should treat the 120-hour 2.4GHz figure as the relevant number, because the USB wireless connection is designed for lower latency than Bluetooth.
HyperX says its battery testing uses 50% headphone volume. Actual endurance will vary with volume, microphone use, spatial-audio features, audio content, the selected wireless mode, and battery aging. If the headset does not approach 200 hours, the most likely explanation is that it is being used over 2.4GHz, above the test volume, or with a mixture of features and connection modes.
What “modular design” means
The Cloud III S has magnetically attached earcup plates. They can be removed and replaced with decorative plates sold separately in select countries or regions. This is useful if you want to change the headset’s appearance, but it is limited cosmetic modularity—not a repair-focused modular architecture.

The headset does not present itself as having swappable drivers, replaceable wireless electronics, a user-replaceable battery, multiple included pad materials, or a wired analog fallback. Calling it “modular” is accurate only when the term is tied to the magnetic plates.
Connectivity and platform features
2.4GHz USB wireless
The included USB dongle provides the intended low-latency gaming connection and is rated for up to 120 hours. It can connect through USB-C or USB-A using the supplied adapter. HyperX lists wireless range of up to 20 meters under its specifications, though walls, interference, and the host device can affect real-world range.
Bluetooth 5.3
Bluetooth is useful for mobile devices, laptops, calls, music, and video. HyperX lists SBC and AAC-LC codec support. It is also the mode associated with the 200-hour maximum, but Bluetooth latency makes it a less appropriate choice for latency-critical competitive gaming.

Instant Pair
Instant Pair is intended for select OMEN laptops and can simplify connection without the usual dongle arrangement. It is not a universal feature for every laptop. HP also warns that connecting multiple devices through Instant Pair can affect individual device performance.

Comfort, construction, and sound
The steel-and-aluminum frame, memory foam, and leatherette-covered cushions give the Cloud III S a more substantial design than lightweight budget headsets. Independent reviews describe the construction as solid and the fit as comfortable for extended sessions. Those impressions are not universal, however: head size, glasses, ear shape, clamping pressure, and tolerance for heat all matter.
Leatherette can become warmer than fabric during long sessions, particularly in a hot room. The headset also does not fold flat for travel according to independent review coverage. Third-party replacement cushions may improve personal comfort, but pad thickness and material can alter bass, treble, passive isolation, ear-to-driver distance, and perceived positional audio.

The 53mm driver size and frequency-response figures describe the hardware; they do not prove sound quality, microphone clarity, or positional accuracy. Those are performance questions that depend on tuning and testing. Reviews from Tom’s Hardware and SoundGuys provide independent assessments rather than relying only on the specification sheet.
Software requirements
HyperX NGENUITY is the relevant Windows software for supported customization, firmware, controls, and DTS Headphone:X spatial-audio features. HP lists compatibility with Windows 10 and later. Console and mobile users should not assume they receive the same controls or software workflow as Windows users.

The Cloud III S Wireless is most compelling when you need features the older model lacks. Both models retain the important 120-hour 2.4GHz battery rating, so the S model is not an upgrade to gaming-mode endurance. Its advantages are Bluetooth, Instant Pair support for select OMEN laptops, magnetic earcup plates, and the 200-hour Bluetooth maximum.

If the Cloud III Wireless is heavily discounted and you only need 2.4GHz gaming, it may offer better value. If you want one headset for gaming and mobile listening, the S model’s dual-wireless design is more useful.

How it compares with alternatives
- HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless: A better direction for buyers who prioritize maximum advertised 2.4GHz endurance over Bluetooth flexibility. Check its current platform support, price, and availability before buying.
- SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 Wireless: Worth comparing if broad device support, dual-wireless connectivity, and app-based customization matter. Its battery and software experience are different, so it is not a direct 200-hour equivalent.
- Razer BlackShark V2 Pro: A performance-focused alternative with an emphasis on gaming and microphone features. Support for Bluetooth, platforms, and software varies by exact generation.
- Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED: A lighter, generally more budget-oriented dual-wireless headset, but it uses less premium construction and a different microphone approach. It belongs to a different product class.
Do not choose among these headsets by headline battery number alone. Check whether the quoted endurance applies to the connection mode you will actually use, whether your platform is supported, and whether the headset provides Bluetooth, software controls, or a detachable microphone where required.
Who should buy the Cloud III S Wireless?
Buy it if you want unusually long battery life, low-latency 2.4GHz gaming plus Bluetooth, a detachable boom microphone, a closed-back memory-foam fit, and cosmetic customization. At or below the $139.99 price observed on HyperX’s US store on August 18, 2026, it is substantially more attractive than at its $179.99 launch MSRP.
Be cautious if you need 200 hours specifically while gaming through the dongle, prefer breathable fabric pads, need a foldable travel headset, require a wired analog connection, or are buying primarily for repairability. The magnetic plates do not justify a large premium by themselves.

Verdict
The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless is a sensible refinement of the Cloud III Wireless, not a fully modular headset. Its strongest practical features are the combination of 2.4GHz and Bluetooth and the very long battery claims. The crucial distinction is that up to 200 hours applies to Bluetooth, while 2.4GHz gaming is rated for up to 120 hours. The modularity is primarily cosmetic, thanks to removable magnetic earcup plates.
At a discounted price, it is a strong fit for PC, PlayStation, Switch, and mobile users who value battery life and flexible wireless connections. Near or above the original MSRP, compare it carefully with alternatives—and do not pay extra expecting swappable internal components or a repairable modular design.
