Logitech announced the G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse on July 9, 2024, with a U.S. launch price of $79.99. It pairs the HERO 25K sensor with LIGHTSPEED 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth Low Energy and LIGHTFORCE hybrid switches. One important caveat: Logitech rates its included AA battery for more than 300 hours over LIGHTSPEED, but more than 600 hours over Bluetooth, which reports at a slower 125Hz.

Logitech’s launch announcement and specification sheet provide the launch and technical figures. They are manufacturer ratings, not guarantees of runtime or performance in every setup.
What the 600-hour battery claim means
The headline figure applies to Bluetooth, not Logitech’s faster LIGHTSPEED gaming connection. In Bluetooth mode, the G309 reports at 125Hz, or once every 8ms; Logitech rates battery life at more than 600 hours. With the USB receiver in LIGHTSPEED mode, the report rate reaches 1,000Hz, or 1ms, and the stated battery life is more than 300 hours.

Those are Logitech’s figures for an AA alkaline battery. Real runtime varies with use, battery brand and condition, wireless mode, report rate and power management. Bluetooth can be handy for a laptop or general use, but its lower report rate makes it a different trade-off from LIGHTSPEED—not a way to get 600 hours of the mouse’s primary high-report-rate gaming mode.

86g in the box; 68g with a separate charging system
The normal AA-powered configuration weighs 86g. Logitech’s 68g figure is for use with its POWERPLAY wireless charging system and no AA battery. POWERPLAY is sold separately, so the G309 is not a 68g mouse in its standard configuration.
POWERPLAY provides continuous wireless power when the mouse is used with the compatible charging system. That makes the lighter setup most compelling for people who already own POWERPLAY. For buyers starting from scratch, the additional accessory changes the total cost substantially; it is better understood as an optional ecosystem upgrade than as part of the $79.99 launch package.

Sensor, switches and everyday design
The HERO 25K sensor has a specified sensitivity range of 100 to 25,600 DPI, tracking speed above 400 IPS and acceleration above 40G. Logitech also specifies no smoothing, acceleration or filtering. These are sensor ceilings, not a recommendation to play at 25,600 DPI: most players use a much lower sensitivity, and shape, weight, feet and button feel are likely to matter more than the maximum number.
LIGHTFORCE switches combine optical actuation with mechanical-contact elements, according to Logitech, with the aim of retaining a crisp mechanical click alongside optical-switch characteristics. That description is not by itself proof that the mouse will feel faster or more reliable for every player.

The G309 measures 120 × 64 × 39mm. Review descriptions characterize its shell as an egg-like, broadly symmetrical shape with a pronounced rear hump and relatively flat sides. Shape fit is personal: consider whether you like a rear hump, how you hold the mouse, and whether you rest your palm on the shell before choosing it. Logitech lists seven buttons and onboard memory for one profile; G HUB supports up to five profiles. The mouse has no RGB lighting listed in its official specifications and is relatively restrained in features compared with premium models.
Logitech says a compatible gaming keyboard can share the G309’s LIGHTSPEED receiver using the Device Pairing Tool in G HUB. Compatibility is specific to supported devices, not universal across all Logitech wireless products.

What reviewers flag
Tom’s Hardware described the G309 as a fairly basic wireless mouse under $100 outside its POWERPLAY appeal. RTINGS reported side-to-side play in the scroll wheel and mushy-feeling side buttons in its testing. Those are review observations rather than a guarantee that every unit or user will experience the same thing, but they are worth weighing if scroll-wheel precision or side-button feel is a priority. RTINGS also judged the Razer Viper V3 HyperSpeed a better gaming mouse overall in its comparison.

Who should consider the G309?
- A reasonable fit: Logitech G users seeking LIGHTSPEED at a lower entry price; players comfortable replacing an AA battery; people who want Bluetooth for a laptop or travel; and existing POWERPLAY owners interested in the lighter battery-free configuration.
- Think twice if: you want an internally rechargeable battery included, prioritize a very light mouse without extra hardware, dislike AA cells, need a particular flatter or more aggressively symmetrical shape, or place a premium on refined scroll-wheel and side-button feel.
The $79.99 figure is the U.S. launch MSRP announced in July 2024, not a promise of today’s selling price. Retail prices and promotions change, so check the Logitech product page or a retailer for the current price in your region. At a discount, the G309’s AA power, dual wireless modes and solid sensor specification can be appealing; at full launch price, compare it with current alternatives on street price, weight, charging preference and shape rather than DPI alone.
