Short answer: in 2024, Nitro could come from a gift, a trial, a partner offer, or a giveaway—but there were not ten guaranteed ways to claim it. Some offers required another paid subscription or payment details, and trials could renew into paid Nitro. This guide separates genuinely free access from bundles and bonuses, and notes which offers have expired.
“Free” can mean different things: a direct gift or prize costs the recipient nothing; a trial may ask for billing details and renew automatically; a bundle is only free if you already value the other paid service or product; and ordinary Discord is free but is not Nitro. There is no legitimate code generator, hack, or account trick that unlocks permanent Nitro.
What counts as free Nitro?
- Free to you: someone gives you Nitro, or you win a legitimate giveaway.
- Free trial: Nitro costs nothing during the trial, but payment information may be required and billing may begin automatically afterward.
- Included with another purchase: a partner subscription or product may include a trial. It is not a free deal overall if you buy that service or product only for Nitro.
- Bonus time on paid Nitro: you pay for a subscription and receive extra time. That is a discount, not free Nitro.
- Free Discord: the standard account supports messaging, voice, and communities, but does not include Nitro benefits.
Nitro is Discord’s paid membership. Its features have changed over time, so check Discord’s current Nitro page rather than assuming today’s benefits or limits were identical in 2024.
Ten legitimate routes—and their limits
The list below includes genuine ways to receive Nitro or find a promotion, not ten offers that were always available. Campaign dates, countries, account eligibility, and redemption rules varied. An expired offer cannot be claimed now simply because an old article or code page still mentions it.

1. Epic Games Store promotions
Epic has distributed time-limited Discord Nitro offers. To check one safely, sign in to the Epic Games Store directly and look for an active offer or an official Epic email. An offer might be limited to new or returning Nitro users, countries, or a redemption period; availability in one campaign does not establish that it was active throughout 2024 or remains active now. Discord’s Epic listing illustrates this kind of offer, but its current terms should not be treated as historical 2024 terms.
Before redeeming, confirm the expiry date, eligibility, amount due today, and renewal terms. If Discord says the code is unknown, it may be expired, already used, region-restricted, or incompatible with your account history.
2. Xbox Game Pass promotions
Some partner campaigns have made a Nitro trial available through Xbox benefits. When an offer is active, the basic route is to find it in the official Xbox app or benefits area, claim it there, then follow the redemption link to Discord while signed in to the account that should receive Nitro. The exact Game Pass tier, duration, region, and 2024 campaign dates must come from that specific campaign’s terms. Do not assume a current offer’s duration applied in 2024. If you do not already want Game Pass, compare its cost with the value of the trial: it is a bundle benefit, not free Nitro overall.
3. YouTube Premium-linked promotion
A Nitro promotion for qualifying U.S. YouTube Premium subscribers was reported as running from October 7, 2024, into early 2025. It was limited by country and campaign dates, and subscribing to YouTube Premium solely to get Nitro would not make the Nitro free overall. The available historical account is not enough to treat the campaign as a current offer or to claim that every Premium subscriber qualified. Check YouTube Premium and Discord’s official channels for any live offer and its own eligibility terms.
4. A shared trial from a Nitro member
Discord’s Share Nitro feature lets eligible members send trial offers through Discord. A real shared offer appears in Discord as an in-app card; it is not a downloadable file or a third-party login. Discord says recipients have a limited window to redeem, and a payment method may be required. Review the plan and renewal details before choosing Start Trial, then cancel before the renewal date if you do not want to continue. See Discord’s Share Nitro instructions.

5. A direct gift from a friend
A friend can give you Nitro through Discord’s official gifting flow. This is genuinely free to the recipient, although the sender pays or uses a gift they lawfully obtained. A direct gift is different from a trial: check exactly what plan and term Discord shows before accepting. Discord’s Paid Services Terms describe the rules that apply to gifts and promotional access. Never enter your password on an outside page just because someone labels a link “Nitro gift.”
6. Discord events, quests, or campaigns
Discord may attach rewards to a particular event, quest, or promotion, but an ordinary quest is not automatically a Nitro giveaway. Check the campaign in the Discord app or through an official Discord announcement. Confirm the campaign name, dates, task, and exact reward: Nitro, Nitro credit, a trial, and a third-party item are not interchangeable. If the terms do not explicitly promise Nitro, do not count it as a Nitro route.
7. Creator, esports, or community giveaways
Established creators, esports organizers, game publishers, and communities sometimes give away Nitro gifts. This is a chance to win, not a dependable way to get Nitro. Verify the organizer through its official website or established account; check that the prize, entry rules, and closing date are clear; and look for a transparent winner announcement. No legitimate giveaway needs your Discord password, authentication token, QR-code login, or a “verification fee.”

8. Hardware or software bundles
Promotional trials may be bundled with eligible hardware, software, or a service. Read the particular offer before buying anything: it may apply only to a new purchase, require a specific app or device, exclude regions, restrict accounts with recent Nitro, or expire on a stated date. A current promotion is not evidence that the same bundle existed in 2024. If you were considering the product anyway, the trial may be a bonus; do not buy it solely on the assumption that Nitro will be included.
9. Paid Nitro offers that add free time
Discord ran a summer 2024 promotion that added one month of Nitro for users who signed up during the campaign, which ended July 31, 2024. It rewarded a paid sign-up; it did not give users Nitro at no cost. Discord’s announcement is at Join Nitro, Get 1 Month Free During Our Summer Promo. Treat similar “extra month” offers as paid promotions and check what the subscription costs after any bonus period.

If your goal is messaging, voice chat, or joining communities, a standard Discord account may be all you need. It does not include Nitro’s premium perks, such as its paid customization, upload, streaming, or server-boost benefits. But it is the reliable no-cost option when no suitable promotion is available; there is no need to risk your account chasing a fake Nitro unlock. Discord describes its free service and optional membership in its Nitro Rewards announcement.

How to redeem an offer without losing it
- Start at the source. Open the official partner app, account, email, or Discord surface yourself; do not trust a forwarded claim link by default.
- Read the terms first. Check expiry, country availability, new/returning-user rules, required plan, payment method, renewal price, and cancellation date.
- Choose the correct Discord account. Sign in before redeeming and verify the username. Some partner redemptions cannot be transferred if claimed on the wrong account.
- Check your eligibility. Recent Nitro use, trials, Basic, Classic, or server-boost history may affect an offer. The exact rule differs by campaign; do not assume all promotions share one look-back period.
- Review the checkout screen. Confirm what is due now, when billing starts, and which plan will renew. A trial requiring a card is not necessarily fake, but you should understand the terms before accepting.
- Confirm activation. Check Discord’s User Settings → Subscriptions or current billing area for the plan and renewal date.
- Set a reminder and cancel if needed. Save the offer terms and confirmation email until the trial or gift period ends.
Discord’s paid-services terms explain that promotions can have their own eligibility and combination rules, and promotional subscriptions may renew unless canceled. Some trial checkouts may also place a temporary authorization hold; check the offer details and your payment provider if one appears.
Cancel a trial before it becomes paid
Use Discord’s current billing controls; labels and steps can differ by platform or change over time. In Discord, open User Settings, go to Subscriptions or the current subscription-management area, select Nitro, choose Cancel (or the equivalent control), and confirm. Return to the subscription page and verify the renewal is canceled and the access end date is clear. If you subscribed through a partner or a mobile app store, check whether cancellation must be completed there instead. Cancel before the date shown in your account, not merely before an old promotion’s advertised end date.
How to spot fake Nitro offers
Do not use “Nitro generators,” modified clients, account exploits, or sites selling supposedly free codes. These are not legitimate ways to obtain Nitro and can expose your account, payment details, or device to theft and malware. Discord’s free-trial FAQ says official Discord staff will not DM users offers directly.
- Ignore unsolicited QR-code claims. A QR login can let someone access your account.
- Never share your password or token. No giveaway or “verification bot” needs them.
- Do not download a claim tool. A Nitro offer should not require an executable, browser extension, or disabled antivirus.
- Reject fees and survey walls. A fee to “verify” or release a code is a warning sign.
- Check the domain and the offer. Start from Discord or a partner’s official app/site, then confirm the terms at redemption.
Why a legitimate code might fail
- “Unknown Gift Code” or similar message: the code may have expired or been used, your account may not qualify, or the offer may be region-limited. Check the campaign terms and contact the partner or Discord support through official channels.
- You recently had Nitro: many campaigns exclude recent subscribers or trial users, but the look-back period is offer-specific.
- The offer is missing: it may have ended, be limited to another country or partner tier, or not be available to your account.
- You are asked for payment details: this can be normal for a trial. Proceed only if you are on an official page and can see the amount due now, renewal date, and price.
- You redeemed on the wrong account: some offers cannot be moved. Confirm the account before claiming rather than trying multiple accounts to bypass eligibility.
Bottom line
The most reliable genuinely free routes were a Nitro gift from someone you trust or a real prize from a reputable giveaway. An active official partner promotion or an in-app shared trial could also provide temporary Nitro, but both depended on eligibility and could require payment details or renew into a paid plan. The other routes were campaign-specific, bundled with something paid, a bonus on a purchase, or simply the free Discord plan—not free Nitro. Avoid generators and account tricks, and trust only the offer terms shown by Discord or the named partner.
