Yes, usually—for direct handheld charging on the original Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, or Switch Lite, provided the Samsung charger is a genuine USB-C Power Delivery model and you use a suitable, undamaged cable. But a Samsung 25W charger is not a full replacement for the original Switch’s Nintendo adapter: Nintendo specifies about 39W for TV mode, so use the official HAC-002 adapter for dependable dock and TV operation. Switch 2 has different requirements and is not covered by this recommendation.

Nintendo identifies the HAC-002 as the Switch-family AC adapter. Its technical information lists 5V/1.5A and 15V/2.6A outputs; the latter is about 39W. Nintendo says TV mode requires 39W. Nintendo’s charging guidance and its technical information are the relevant references.
Why a Samsung charger may work in handheld mode but not with the dock
“Samsung charger” describes a brand, not a single electrical specification. Samsung’s 25W EP-TA800, for example, has a USB-C port and supports USB PD 3.0/PPS. Samsung lists a fixed 9V PD output and PPS ranges, but not the original Switch adapter’s 15V/2.6A, approximately 39W mode. Samsung’s EP-TA800 specifications make the difference visible.

That makes the 25W adapter a reasonable option for charging the console directly, but not one to rely on for docked play. The dock setup has a higher power requirement; a 25W adapter does not match Nintendo’s stated TV-mode requirement. It may fail to activate the dock, fail to provide video, or behave inconsistently. This conclusion follows from comparing Nintendo’s stated requirement with Samsung’s listed output; Nintendo does not certify the Samsung charger for this use.

Even a charger marked 45W or 65W is not automatically suitable. Maximum wattage is only the charger’s ceiling. The output table must show the voltage and current available at a particular port, and a multi-port charger may reduce that output when other devices are connected. For an original Switch dock, look for a reputable USB-C PD charger able to supply around 15V at 2.6A or more—but the HAC-002 remains the least ambiguous option.
How to check your Samsung charger
- Find the model number. It is printed on the charger body. Look up that exact model’s specifications rather than relying on “Samsung” or “Super Fast Charging” on the packaging.
- Check the port. A USB-C output is preferred for a modern PD charger. A USB-A port and a proprietary Samsung fast-charging label do not by themselves establish USB PD compatibility.
- Read the output table. For handheld use, a genuine USB-C PD model such as the 25W EP-TA800 is generally suitable. For dock use, check specifically for a 15V output and the current available at 15V; the total wattage printed prominently on the box is not enough.
- Check port-sharing limits. If it is a multi-port charger, see whether plugging in another device lowers the output of the port used by the Switch.
- Use a suitable cable. With a USB-C charger, use an undamaged USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Cable capability and condition matter; USB-C connector shape alone does not tell you the cable’s power rating. Samsung recommends a Type-C-to-Type-C cable for optimum use with its 25W adapter, but a Samsung-branded cable is not a universal requirement.
A genuine, reputable USB-C PD charger is a more defensible third-party choice than an unverified bargain adapter, but no charger should be treated as guaranteed safe just because it has a USB-C plug. Nintendo recommends its HAC-002 and warns that unlicensed products have not undergone Nintendo’s testing and evaluation and may have compatibility problems. Nintendo’s charging troubleshooting guidance explains that warning.

Connect it directly for handheld charging
- Inspect the charger, cable, connectors, and Switch USB-C port. Do not use damaged or loose equipment.
- Connect the USB-C cable to the Samsung charger and the other end directly to the Switch’s USB-C port—not the dock.
- Plug the charger into a wall outlet. If the battery is nearly empty, leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before trying to turn the console on.
- Check for the charging indicator. If the console is running a demanding game, its battery may still drain or rise only slowly if the charger supplies less power than the console is using.
Nintendo estimates approximately three hours for a full charge under its stated conditions; that should not be taken as a promise for every third-party charger or while playing. A connection icon means power is detected, not necessarily that the battery is gaining charge quickly enough to offset gameplay.

- Disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet and the console. Leave it unplugged for 30 seconds.
- Hold the Switch’s Power button for 20 seconds to force it off.
- Plug the adapter directly into a wall outlet, then connect it directly to the console rather than through the dock.
- Press the Power button once. If the battery was fully depleted, leave it charging for at least 30 minutes before trying again.
- If possible, repeat the test with an official HAC-002 adapter. Check the cable and port for visible damage or debris; do not force anything into the port.
- If the HAC-002 also fails, or the port is damaged, contact Nintendo support or arrange service.
A Switch that charges with its official adapter but not with a Samsung charger may be encountering an output-profile, cable, or charger compatibility issue. A charger that works with a Samsung phone is not thereby proven compatible with every USB-C device.

Switch Lite: It has no TV mode, so the dock-power question does not apply. A suitable Samsung USB-C PD charger can be a practical direct-charging option, though Nintendo still identifies HAC-002 as its adapter. Nintendo’s TV connection guidance confirms that Switch Lite does not support TV mode.

Original Switch and Switch OLED: Both can be used with a TV dock. A 25W Samsung charger may suit direct handheld charging, but use the HAC-002 for dependable dock and TV operation.
