Samsung Health does not have a documented direct connection to Pokémon GO. On Android, the practical route is a bridge: Samsung Health writes step data to Health Connect, Google Fit reads it where that integration is available, and Pokémon GO uses Google Fit through Adventure Sync. The chain can work, but it is not a guarantee that every Samsung Health step will become Pokémon GO distance.
What you need
- An Android phone with Pokémon GO installed and updated.
- A Pokémon GO account at Trainer Level 5 or higher; that is the minimum level for Adventure Sync.
- Samsung Health recording recent steps from your phone, Galaxy Watch, or another compatible tracker.
- Health Connect enabled, plus Google Fit if it is available as the intermediary on your device.
- The relevant activity, location, and health-data permissions enabled. Menu labels vary by Android version, device, and app release.
Niantic’s Adventure Sync instructions name Google Fit for Android. Pokémon GO’s support guidance also tells Android users to check Google Fit’s connected devices. Samsung’s documentation explains how to connect compatible apps to Samsung Health, but does not document Pokémon GO as a direct integration. See Pokémon GO troubleshooting and Samsung Health app connections.
1. Confirm Samsung Health has the steps first
- Open Samsung Health and check the Steps tile for recent activity.
- If you use a Galaxy Watch, check that it is connected to your phone through Galaxy Wearable and Bluetooth, then give it time to sync. The watch-to-phone handoff is a separate step from sharing data with other apps.
- If Samsung Health is not updating, try More options > Settings > Sync with Samsung Cloud > Sync now, if those labels appear in your version. Samsung’s sync guidance covers Samsung Health account synchronization; its watch troubleshooting guide covers connection and power-saving checks.
Do not treat the Samsung Health total as a promise of what Pokémon GO will receive. Samsung Health may combine phone and watch records, while downstream apps can read or aggregate them differently.

Health Connect is Android’s data-sharing and permissions layer; it does not automatically make Pokémon GO read Samsung Health. On Android 14 and later, find it in system settings, usually Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy controls > Health Connect. On Android 13 and earlier, it may need to be installed from Google Play and opened through the device’s Apps settings. See Google’s Health Connect setup and permissions instructions for device-specific routes.

- In Samsung Health, look under Menu or More options > Settings for Health Connect. Depending on the build, the entry may be under Services or Apps.
- Enable the connection or synchronization and accept any Samsung health-data processing consent prompt.
- Open Health Connect and choose App permissions > Samsung Health.
- Allow Samsung Health to write Steps. Grant only the data types you intend to share.
- Check Health Connect’s data or recent-access view, if available, to see whether new step records appear.
If Samsung Health shows steps but Health Connect does not, verify both the write permission and the connection inside Samsung Health. Samsung notes that missing consent to process health and wellness data can prevent syncing after Samsung Health 7.0 updates; this is a troubleshooting possibility, not evidence that every 7.0 installation is affected. See Samsung’s consent and syncing guidance.
3. Let Google Fit read steps from Health Connect
Google Fit is the Android app named in Pokémon GO’s current Adventure Sync support materials. Where your current Google Fit version supports Health Connect, configure Fit to read the steps Samsung Health writes there. The exact setting name can vary.
- Open Google Fit, then its settings, and look for a Health Connect or Sync Fit with Health Connect option.
- Enable the connection and grant Google Fit read access to Steps (and any other relevant data type it requests and you want to share).
- In Health Connect, open App permissions > Google Fit and confirm read access to Steps.
- Return to Google Fit and check whether recent step data appears.
If your Google Fit version has no Health Connect connection option, this bridge may not be available on your current setup. Do not assume that installing Health Connect alone completes the handoff: Pokémon GO’s published Android instructions still point to Google Fit rather than naming Health Connect as a direct source.

4. Turn on Adventure Sync in Pokémon GO
- Open Pokémon GO and tap the Main Menu.
- Tap Settings > General > Adventure Sync.
- Follow the prompts to connect Google Fit and grant the requested permissions, including location access where requested.
- Confirm Adventure Sync is switched on.
This is Niantic’s documented path; a later app build may move or rename the setting. Adventure Sync is available from Trainer Level 5 and is intended to record distance while Pokémon GO is not open, supporting Buddy Candy and Egg progress. It is not a live copy of Samsung Health’s step counter. Check Niantic’s current Adventure Sync help page if the in-game prompts differ.
5. Test each handoff in order
- Note your current step count in Samsung Health.
- Walk a short, ordinary distance with the phone or watch, then let the watch sync to the phone if you use one.
- Check that Samsung Health has updated.
- Check whether a new step record has reached Health Connect.
- Check whether Google Fit can see recent steps.
- Close Pokémon GO rather than leaving it actively open. Allow time for apps to synchronize; there is no universal documented propagation time.
- Reopen Pokémon GO and check your Trainer profile distance, Buddy Candy progress, Egg incubation, or Adventure Sync/weekly fitness progress.
Use new activity for this test. Google says connected apps can access data from the previous 30 days and new data after permission is granted, but the receiving app may impose stricter limits. Do not expect old activity to be converted into Pokémon GO distance or assume months of steps will be backfilled.
Troubleshooting: find where the steps stop
- Steps are missing from Samsung Health: Resolve the phone or watch recording issue first. Check Galaxy Wearable, Bluetooth, watch-to-phone sync, network access, and power-saving settings.
- Steps appear in Samsung Health, but not Health Connect: Check Samsung Health’s Health Connect connection, its permission to write Steps, and any outstanding Samsung health-data consent.
- Steps appear in Health Connect, but not Google Fit: Confirm Google Fit has Health Connect read access to Steps and that the Fit–Health Connect connection is enabled in your version.
- Steps appear in Google Fit, but not Pokémon GO: Confirm Pokémon GO is listed as a connected device in Google Fit, Adventure Sync is on, the Pokémon GO account is Level 5 or higher, and required location permissions are active. Make sure Google Fit and Pokémon GO are using the intended accounts.
- Everything looks connected, but progress is still missing: Toggle Adventure Sync off and back on, then revoke and regrant only the relevant permissions. Restart the phone and test with new activity before considering a reinstall.
Follow that order rather than deleting app data at the outset: Health Connect data can be local, and reinstalling or clearing data may remove records or disconnect permissions. Google’s Health Connect troubleshooting guidance recommends checking permissions, supported data types, and synchronization from the connected app.

Why the totals may not match
A larger Samsung Health step total does not by itself mean Adventure Sync is broken. The apps can aggregate overlapping phone and watch records differently; several apps may write Steps to Health Connect; synchronization may lag; and Google Fit or Pokémon GO may filter or process activity differently. Health Connect can merge records and use app priority when sources overlap. Also, a daily step count is not the same measurement as Pokémon GO distance.

Privacy and account checks
Permissions are directional and data-type specific: Samsung Health needs permission to write Steps to Health Connect; Google Fit needs permission to read them; Pokémon GO needs its Google Fit connection and location access for Adventure Sync. Allowing Steps does not automatically grant access to heart rate, sleep, weight, or other health data. Review or revoke app access under Health Connect’s App permissions.

Google says Health Connect data is stored locally on the device, but apps that have received data may retain their own copies. Health Connect does not support multi-user profiles such as an Android Work Profile, which can prevent the expected handoff. After moving to a new phone, recheck connections and permissions in each app and confirm the same intended accounts are in use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is another setup simpler?
If you want Samsung Health to remain your fitness record, the Health Connect-to-Google Fit bridge is the route to try, with the trade-off of more permissions and more places for synchronization to fail. If your only goal is Pokémon GO distance, using Google Fit as the primary Android source may be simpler because it is the app named in Niantic’s documentation. Carrying your phone and relying on Adventure Sync also removes Samsung Health from the chain, though it may not reflect watch activity as you expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Samsung Health connect directly to Pokémon GO?
No direct Samsung Health integration is documented in Pokémon GO’s current Adventure Sync instructions. Android players can try the Health Connect-to-Google Fit bridge, but Pokémon GO names Google Fit as its Android connection.
Can Galaxy Watch steps count toward Pokémon GO?
They may, if the watch syncs steps into Samsung Health, Samsung Health writes them to Health Connect, Google Fit can read them, and Pokémon GO processes them through Adventure Sync. The chain is not guaranteed to transfer every step.
Does Health Connect replace Google Fit for Adventure Sync?
No. Health Connect shares data between compatible apps; Pokémon GO’s current support instructions still name Google Fit for Android.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Will Pokémon GO add my old Samsung Health steps?
Do not count on it. Google documents a 30-day Health Connect access window for connected apps, but Pokémon GO may have stricter processing limits. Test with new activity after setup.
Do I need to keep Pokémon GO open?
Adventure Sync is designed to record distance while Pokémon GO is not open, once it is enabled and the required connections and permissions are in place.
Does treadmill walking count?
The available documentation does not guarantee that treadmill or indoor activity will be credited like outdoor movement. Test your setup rather than assuming all recorded steps become game distance.
