Yes—YouTube officially tested real-time multiplayer in selected Playables, but that test is not new. YouTube announced it on December 9, 2024, starting with Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3 on desktop and mobile. YouTube’s current help documentation still confirms Playables as an active feature, but does not establish that multiplayer is now a universal, permanent option.
What YouTube Playables are
Playables are interactive games that run directly inside YouTube’s apps and website. YouTube says they require no separate game installation or additional hardware. They are designed for short, casual sessions rather than console-style gaming or cloud streaming.
YouTube publicly introduced more than 75 Playables in May 2024, including Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask and Trivia Crack. That was a launch-era figure, not a current catalog count. Later reporting described more than 130 titles in December 2024, but neither number should be treated as today’s total.

Supported games can save progress and best scores to a user’s YouTube account. Google’s developer documentation describes Playables as interactive games and experiences submitted for consideration, with developer access characterized as early access.

What the multiplayer test included
The official YouTube announcement described a test allowing people to play selected Playables in real time with other users. The first named games were:
- Ludo Club
- Magic Tiles 3
The test covered desktop and mobile devices. “Real-time multiplayer” means simultaneous play, not merely comparing scores, sharing a result or appearing on a leaderboard.
However, the announcement did not promise multiplayer for every Playable. It also did not confirm voice chat, friend invitations, private parties, matchmaking controls, cross-platform progression or a broader social-gaming network.

Is multiplayer still available in 2026?
The careful answer is that its current status is not fully documented publicly. YouTube’s latest Playables help page explains discovery, supported devices, countries, saves, scores and sharing, but does not list multiplayer as a universal Playables capability.
That does not prove the experiment was cancelled. It means Google has confirmed the December 2024 test, while current public documentation does not confirm that it became a permanent, worldwide rollout. Availability may still depend on the individual game, account, country and rollout group.
How to find and play Playables
- Open YouTube and look for the Playables shelf on Home.
- Open Explore and choose the Playables destination.
- Search YouTube for a game or Playable.
- Open the You tab to return to a saved game when that option is available.
To share a game, open its three-dot More menu and select Share. A direct link may sometimes be accessible even when the Playables shelf is not prominent, but this is a rollout caveat rather than a guaranteed workaround.

Device, account and regional limits
YouTube’s current requirements list the following:

The currently listed countries are Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Even in an eligible country, an account may not show Playables because of device compatibility or rollout differences.
Playables history and supported saves are managed through YouTube History > Interactions. Progress can sync across supported devices signed in to the same account, with one save file per game. Deleting that save removes progress across devices. Best scores are stored separately, and not every game necessarily records progress or scores in YouTube History. Turning off or deleting Playables history can affect what is retained or displayed.

Compared with Netflix Games
Netflix’s support documentation says Netflix Playground is included with a Netflix membership and has no ads, in-app purchases or additional fees for that product. Its documented path generally involves installing an app or game through Google Play or the App Store.
That makes the practical difference friction: YouTube Playables aim for immediate, in-platform access, while Netflix Games generally require a download. Netflix’s catalog can include larger, premium-style mobile titles, and multiplayer support varies by title; it is not a universal Netflix feature.
Compared with Y8
Y8 is a useful user-experience comparison, but not a technical equivalent. Y8 makes games the main product and offers game-focused browsing. YouTube remains primarily a video service with games added as another engagement surface.

Y8 may offer greater game-first breadth, but saves, advertising, controls and multiplayer behavior can differ from one title to another. YouTube’s advantages are distribution and account integration: users may discover games while already watching videos, and supported progress can be linked to their YouTube account.
Which service should you use?
- Choose YouTube Playables if you want to start instantly, avoid a separate installation and play short casual games inside a service you already use.
- Choose Netflix Games if you already subscribe to Netflix, prefer a curated mobile catalog and do not mind downloading individual titles. Netflix’s stated no-ad, no-in-app-purchase model applies to the cited Playground product, while title-specific requirements still vary.
- Choose Y8 if you want a dedicated browser-game destination and are comfortable checking each game’s controls, save behavior, advertising and multiplayer mode.
Common problems
The Playables shelf is missing
Check your country, app version, operating-system support and account rollout. A missing shelf does not by itself show that Playables has been removed. Search or a shared game link may expose a title that is not visible in navigation, although this is not guaranteed.
A game does not show multiplayer
The 2024 announcement covered selected games, not the entire catalog. Look for multiplayer controls on the individual game card or in-game menu; do not treat a leaderboard as simultaneous multiplayer.

Confirm that you are signed into the same YouTube account and review YouTube History settings. Some games do not save progress or scores through YouTube History, and deleting a save file removes it across supported devices.
Verdict
YouTube Playables is best understood as a lightweight games layer embedded in a video platform. YouTube did test genuine real-time multiplayer, beginning with Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3, but current public documentation does not show that multiplayer has become a universal feature. Playables is closer to convenient, curated browser-style gaming inside YouTube than to Netflix’s downloadable game catalog—and it is not a full replacement for a game-first portal such as Y8.
