There is no single guaranteed fix for Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash multiplayer lag. First check whether the game stutters offline too: if it does, troubleshoot the game or Switch; if it is smooth offline but delayed online, focus on your connection, NAT type, and the match. Update the game, test the Switch connection, and compare matches with different opponents before buying equipment or changing advanced router settings.
Work out whether it is online lag or local stutter
Test story mode, training, or another offline activity before changing your internet settings. Online delay and a local frame-rate problem can feel similar, but they have different causes.

- Likely online latency: attacks register late, characters seem to teleport or move in slow motion, or movement rubber-bands. It may happen only with particular opponents.
- Likely an unstable connection: matches freeze, connection warnings appear, or a match drops back to a menu.
- Likely matchmaking trouble: searches take a long time, fail, or repeatedly produce unsuitable matches. A long wait by itself does not mean the game is lagging.
- Likely local performance trouble: stuttering also happens offline, in menus, or in training. Internet changes will not fix a rendering problem.
If the game is smooth offline, start with the network steps below. If it stutters offline too, update and restart the software and console, check for heat or other performance symptoms, and consider reinstalling only if the local problem persists.

Bandai Namco’s patch history shows that online-related bugs have been addressed over time, but it does not promise that a particular update eliminates every player’s lag. Version 1.0.2, dated March 27, 2024, addressed several online-match and result-screen freezes; version 1.3.0 added matching-related settings; and version 1.4.0, dated November 19, 2024, listed further bug fixes without claiming a universal lag fix. - Press + or −, choose Software Update, then select Via the Internet.
- After the update completes, restart the game. Check the version shown on the title screen or software information screen rather than assuming a specific version is current.
- Check for a Nintendo Switch system update in System Settings as well.
Test the connection and record NAT type
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings → Internet → Test Connection.
- Record the NAT type, download speed, upload speed, and any error message. Nintendo recommends checking these results when matchmaking fails.
A high download speed does not guarantee responsive matches. Latency, jitter, packet loss, wireless interference, the route between players, and the other player’s connection can matter more than raw bandwidth. Nintendo’s general online-latency guidance lists weak wireless signal, interference, slow internet, and slow network devices as possible contributors. No universal minimum speed for Cursed Clash is established in the cited guidance.
Address restrictive NAT and matchmaking failures
NAT describes how a router or network handles connections between devices. It can prevent or limit peer-to-peer connections even when a speed test looks good. Nintendo says NAT Type D generally connects only with players using Type A, while Type F is not optimal for peer-to-peer play and generally indicates restricted communication. Other NAT types can also have limitations depending on the other player’s network; Type A is not a universal requirement for every match. See Nintendo’s matchmaking connection guidance.
- Restart the modem and router, then test again.
- Install available router firmware updates.
- If possible, test on a different network, such as a normal home connection instead of a hotspot or managed public network.
- If you are on a dorm, hotel, school, mobile, or carrier-grade network, its restrictions may be outside your control. Ask the network administrator or ISP about the NAT result.
Do not forward arbitrary ports: the cited game guidance does not establish a port-forwarding recipe for Cursed Clash.

Try disabling IPv6 only if it is relevant
Nintendo suggests disabling IPv6 as a possible troubleshooting experiment for NAT Type D or F; it is not a guaranteed fix. If IPv6 is available in your network’s settings, use System Settings → Internet → Internet Settings → [connected network] → Change Settings → IPv6 Connection, turn it off, then retest. If the option is unavailable, skip this step. Restore the previous setting if it changes nothing or causes other network issues.
Make Wi-Fi more stable
- Move closer to the router and reduce walls or other obstructions between it and the Switch.
- Try 5 GHz when the console is close enough for a reliable signal. Try 2.4 GHz if distance or walls make 5 GHz unstable; neither band is always the better choice.
- Pause large downloads, streaming, cloud backups, and uploads on other devices during matches.
- Restart the Switch and router. If your router firmware is outdated, update it.
Public, hotel, school, and cellular-hotspot networks may be congested or impose connection restrictions, so use a reliable home network when available. Buying a faster internet plan alone does not necessarily reduce latency or packet loss.
Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
Ethernet is a useful test because it removes Wi-Fi signal strength and radio interference as variables. The standard Switch and Switch OLED can use wired networking with a compatible LAN adapter or a dock with wired-LAN support. Switch Lite needs a compatible USB-to-Ethernet arrangement and the required accessories; verify compatibility with the exact console and setup.

Compare wired and Wi-Fi play under similar conditions. A wired connection may reduce local wireless instability, but it cannot fix a distant or unreliable opponent, a poor ISP route, restrictive upstream NAT, or an issue with the game’s online service. Nintendo’s matchmaking troubleshooting also recommends checking network conditions when connection results appear acceptable.

In version 1.3.0, Bandai Namco described Network Settings under Options. The publisher specifically said the Nintendo Switch version received only the promotion-match matching settings from that update; do not assume broader regional matching controls described for other platforms are available on Switch. The publisher’s version 1.3.0 notes explain the platform distinction.
- Open Cursed Clash and go to Options.
- Look for Network Settings and note which choices actually appear in your Switch build and language.
- Use available promotion-match or matchmaking options if they help you avoid unsuitable matches.
Check membership and player availability
Online multiplayer in compatible Nintendo Switch games requires Nintendo Switch Online. A membership lets you access online play; it does not improve latency. The standard membership is sufficient for online play, and the Expansion Pack is not a connection upgrade. Confirm current details on Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online page.

Long waits or unusual opponent pairings may reflect player availability or distance, not a fault in your console. Player reports describe inconsistent performance and distant-region matches, but these reports do not confirm the game’s server architecture or matchmaking rules: see the Switch player discussion and connection-issues discussion.
Compare opponents, modes, and times
- Play several matches with the same friend, then try a different opponent.
- Compare online versus with online co-op if both are available to you.
- Try again at another time of day and note whether the same problem returns.
If every opponent and mode is affected, investigate your network, game client, or a broader service issue. If only one opponent causes severe delay, the connection between the two players is a stronger possibility, and changes on your console may not solve it. Different match conditions can also explain why one mode feels smoother than another.
Escalate without changing random settings
- Close the game completely, restart the Switch, and restart the modem/router.
- Install game and system updates, then run the connection test again and save the NAT type and results.
- Confirm whether offline play stutters, then test another network or a match with a different opponent if possible.
- Reinstall the game only if symptoms point to corrupted files or abnormal local performance; reinstalling is unlikely to repair latency caused by a remote opponent.
- If the issue persists across offline activities or multiple networks, contact Nintendo or Bandai Namco support and provide the symptoms, error messages, game version, and connection-test results.
A DNS change has not been established as a fix for Cursed Clash match latency, and neither a premium router nor an Ethernet adapter can guarantee smooth play. Avoid buying a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, VPN, or “gaming DNS” service as a supposed lag cure.
