GeForce Experience used to broadcast PC games directly to Twitch through the Alt+Z Share overlay. That is now a legacy workflow. As of August 18, 2026, NVIDIA’s current app no longer includes the former Twitch and YouTube broadcast feature. For a new stream, use the NVIDIA app for drivers, overlay and ShadowPlay capture, then use OBS Studio (free) or Streamlabs Desktop to produce and send the live stream to Twitch. NVIDIA Broadcast is optional for RTX-powered microphone and webcam effects.
Can GeForce Experience still stream directly to Twitch?
Historically, yes. NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience guide documented a direct Twitch, YouTube Live and Facebook Live broadcast feature in the Share overlay. NVIDIA’s successor app changed that: NVIDIA announced that broadcasts to Twitch and YouTube would be discontinued, while ShadowPlay recording, the in-game overlay, driver updates and other GPU tools remained. NVIDIA is also urging remaining GeForce Experience users to move to the NVIDIA app because older GeForce Experience web services are being retired.
Therefore, an old installation may still show Broadcast and Connect, but authentication or backend availability is not guaranteed. Do not make an unsupported GeForce Experience installation the basis of a new streaming setup. See NVIDIA’s broadcasting change announcement and upgrade guidance.
The current NVIDIA-to-Twitch setup
- Create or sign in to your Twitch account.
- Install and update the NVIDIA app for drivers, the overlay and capture tools.
- Install OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop. Twitch lists both among its recommended broadcasting applications.
- Authorize Twitch inside the broadcaster’s account-connection screen.
- Create a game scene, add audio and optional camera/alerts, select an NVIDIA hardware encoder when available, test, then click Start Streaming.
The NVIDIA app is not the Twitch production program. OBS or Streamlabs handles scenes, sources, audio routing, encoding settings and the connection to Twitch.

Set up OBS Studio
- Download OBS from its official site and run the automatic configuration wizard if offered.
- In OBS, use the service/account-authorization workflow to connect Twitch. A manually pasted stream key is a fallback, not the preferred first step.
- Create a scene such as “Gameplay.” Add Game Capture first. If a title is not detected, try Window Capture or Display Capture.
- Add Audio Output Capture for game/desktop sound when automatic capture is absent, and Audio Input Capture for your microphone.
- Optionally add a Video Capture Device for a webcam and browser sources for alerts or chat. Source names and wizard wording can vary between OBS releases.
- Open OBS’s output/streaming settings and choose an NVIDIA hardware encoder such as NVENC if your GPU exposes one. Use x264 only when you intentionally want CPU encoding or need to compare results.
- Preview the scene, check the audio meters and perform a short private test before going live. Twitch’s getting-started guidance also recommends testing your broadcast.
Streamlabs Desktop alternative
Streamlabs offers a more guided interface with integrated alerts, overlays and widgets. Twitch lists it as a broadcasting option; the desktop application has free functionality alongside optional paid services. Choose it for convenience, not because an NVIDIA GPU is required.
Using NVIDIA Broadcast with OBS
NVIDIA Broadcast is an optional audio/video processing layer, not a Twitch replacement. On supported RTX hardware it can provide noise removal, room-echo removal, background removal or replacement, Auto Frame and Virtual Key Light.
After installing it, select the NVIDIA Broadcast microphone and camera devices as OBS sources. Keep only one microphone path active: selecting both the physical microphone and its Broadcast version can create echo or doubled audio. Broadcast adds GPU processing, so disable effects that are unnecessary or destabilize a demanding game.

Encoding, quality and performance
NVIDIA’s NVENC is a dedicated video-encoding block designed to move much of the encoding work away from the CPU. It does not make streaming cost-free: a game that saturates the GPU, animated browser sources and camera effects can still cause rendering or encoder problems. Cap the game’s frame rate, lower GPU-heavy settings and leave headroom instead of allowing the game to consume every available GPU cycle.
Choose output resolution and frame rate according to the game, upload connection, encoder headroom and viewers’ devices. Bitrate must be sustainable by your upload and Twitch’s current ingest limits; there is no universal setting that guarantees a clean stream. Start conservatively, watch OBS statistics during a test and adjust one variable at a time. Codec availability and platform behavior change, so do not assume AV1 is automatically the best Twitch choice merely because a newer GPU supports it.
Legacy instructions: if GeForce Experience is still installed
These are NVIDIA’s documented historical steps, retained for readers with a functioning old installation. Menus may differ, and the service can fail because the feature is discontinued.

Alt+Z. - If the overlay does not appear, open GeForce Experience settings, go to Settings > General > Share and enable the Share overlay. The shortcut can be changed under Settings > Keyboard shortcuts.
- In the overlay, open Settings > Broadcast and choose Yes to enable broadcasting. If available, adjust resolution, frame rate, bitrate, overlays and Twitch ingest server.
- Return to settings, choose Connect, select Twitch, click Log in and complete Twitch authentication.
- Launch the game, press
Alt+Z, choose Broadcast > Start, select Twitch, enter the title/metadata and choose Go Live. - To stop, press
Alt+Z, open Broadcast and choose Stop. The legacy system broadcast to only one service at a time.
NVIDIA’s full legacy procedure is available in its GeForce Experience broadcasting guide. Treat it as historical documentation, not a promise that a fresh installation can still authenticate.

Troubleshooting
Alt+Z does nothing
Confirm the overlay is enabled, restart the NVIDIA app and game, try a different shortcut, and update or reinstall the driver/app. Another program may be intercepting the key. If you are using the NVIDIA app and following an old GeForce Experience tutorial, switch to OBS rather than searching for a removed broadcast toggle.
Twitch is missing
This is expected in the current NVIDIA app: direct Twitch broadcasting was removed. Connect Twitch in OBS or Streamlabs instead. On legacy GeForce Experience, missing Twitch can indicate failed authentication or retired backend services.
Game Capture is black
Run the game and broadcaster with compatible privilege levels, select the specific game executable, try borderless-windowed mode, and switch to Window Capture or Display Capture. Temporarily disable conflicting overlays and avoid capturing the same application through multiple sources. Anti-cheat or protected rendering can prevent Game Capture from working.

No game audio or a microphone echo
Check that the correct output and input devices are selected and that only one source captures the microphone. If using NVIDIA Broadcast, choose either the Broadcast microphone or the physical microphone, not both. Disable unnecessary audio monitoring and lower excessive gain.

Skipped, dropped or delayed frames
OBS distinguishes these symptoms. Skipped frames usually indicate encoder overload; dropped frames generally indicate upload or ingest instability; rendering lag means the GPU is saturated. Lower output resolution or frame rate, cap in-game FPS, reduce demanding graphics settings, remove unnecessary animated browser sources, test another ingest server if available and prefer wired networking. Watch OBS’s Statistics window while testing.
Webcam or NVIDIA Broadcast is unavailable
Close other applications that may own the camera, select the correct NVIDIA Broadcast virtual device, confirm the GPU/driver meets NVIDIA’s requirements, and disable effects one at a time. If Broadcast introduces instability, use the physical camera and microphone directly.
Which software should you choose?

You do not need to buy a new RTX card solely to stream. Use the hardware you have, select NVENC when available, and upgrade only when gaming performance or other workloads justify it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need NVIDIA Broadcast to stream to Twitch?
No. NVIDIA Broadcast is optional processing for supported RTX hardware. OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop can stream game footage and audio without it.
Can I still use ShadowPlay with the NVIDIA app?
Yes. The NVIDIA app retains ShadowPlay-style capture and the in-game overlay, but those features do not replace a Twitch broadcasting application.
The Bottom Line
For a reliable 2026 setup, keep the NVIDIA app for drivers, overlay and capture, and let OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop connect to Twitch and manage the broadcast. Use NVIDIA Broadcast only when its RTX audio or camera effects solve a specific problem.
