Look for Gillopod in the Ruins of Wyveria, starting near the Area 8 camp. Check the small tunnel and nearby walls first; if it is not there, search the lower white-branch walkway between Areas 7 and 10. Gillopod is a rare, larger, brighter-blue Pillopod. Catch it with the Capture Net and report back to Dareel.
Where is Gillopod in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The most focused place to start is the Area 8 vicinity in the Ruins of Wyveria. PowerPyx points to a small tunnel near the Area 8 camp and the adjacent wall surfaces (PowerPyx). Search the surrounding rocks and branches as well as the tunnel rather than checking only one exact spot.
If you do not find one there, widen your search to the lower-level white-branch walkway above the central Wyrmway, between Areas 7 and 10. PC Gamer describes Pillopods on the branches and nearby rocks along that route (PC Gamer). This is a broader search area, not a guarantee that Gillopod will be at a particular point.

Gillopod is a rare Pillopod variant distinguished in guide descriptions by its larger size and brighter blue color. Look closely among ordinary Pillopods, and confirm the target name or aiming information in-game before firing the net.

- Equip the Capture Net.
- Aim at Gillopod and capture it.
- Return to Dareel and report the catch to complete the Special Research Report objective.
The quest listing describes the objective as capturing the rare Pillopod, also called Gillopod, in the Ruins of Wyveria. Its listed rewards include Gloamgrass Bud x10 and Honey x5 (Kiranico).
Why do I only see Pillopods?
Gillopod is rare, and the available guides describe its appearance as non-guaranteed; seeing ordinary Pillopods does not mean you are at the wrong locale. The guides do not establish an exact spawn probability.

Once you have checked the Area 8 vicinity and the nearby lower route, leave and return or rest to refresh endemic life, then search again. DotGG lists Areas 1, 8, 9, and 14 with Plenty weather and daytime, while PowerPyx highlights Area 8 during Morning/Plenty (DotGG; PowerPyx). Treat those as reported search conditions, not confirmed requirements that rule out other times or weather.
Quest context and location caveat
Dareel’s Special Research Report asks for the rare Pillopod/Gillopod from the Ruins of Wyveria. PowerPyx says the request can be accepted from Dareel at Windward Plains Base Camp; after capturing Gillopod with the Capture Net, return to Dareel to report it (PowerPyx).

The guides were published in 2025, and no official Capcom page in the cited material provides exact Gillopod coordinates. If an update changes endemic-life behavior, use the current in-game map and quest objective as your reference.
