- Blue: Ways to back something up digitally.
- Purple: Turn up the volume: each answer becomes a unit of volume when you remove one letter.

How Connections works
Connections asks players to divide 16 words into four linked groups. Categories have different colors to indicate difficulty, and some words can seem to fit more than one group. Submit a set of four at a time; an incorrect guess costs a life, and four mistakes end the game. The board can be shuffled to help reveal new connections. Forbes described these mechanics in its March 2025 guide; its archive-access description at that time said past puzzles were available to NYT All Access or Games subscribers.
