You can reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring by completing White Mask Varré’s quest and using the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, or by taking a waygate in the Consecrated Snowfield. Varré’s route offers earlier access; the waygate is a later-game option that does not involve his quest.
Which route should you take?
Choose Varré’s quest if you want to reach the palace earlier. You can complete its invasion step online or, for an offline alternative, defeat the NPC Magnus the Beast Claw. Choose the Snowfield waygate if you would rather skip Varré’s quest and are already far enough into the game to obtain both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.

Get to Mohgwyn Palace with Varré’s medal
This route ends with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which teleports you to Mohgwyn Palace. Follow the conversations and item steps in order; Varré will not give you the medal until you complete the Lord of Blood’s Favor step.
- Meet Varré at the First Step. Speak with White Mask Varré in Limgrave and exhaust his dialogue. After relevant early-game progress, he moves to Rose Church in Liurnia. Guides describe the trigger as defeating Godrick and speaking with Finger Reader Enia at Roundtable Hold, or more broadly as obtaining a Great Rune.
- Speak with him at Rose Church. Choose the response that expresses doubt about the Two Fingers. The wording can vary by guide or localization, so look for the distrustful response rather than relying on one exact line. Varré gives you five Festering Bloody Fingers.
- Complete the invasion step. Use the fingers to invade three players; you do not have to win. If you want to avoid online multiplayer, go to Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau and use the red summon sign to invade Magnus the Beast Claw instead.
- Take the Lord of Blood’s Favor and soak it in maiden’s blood. Return to Varré and accept the Favor. One option is the corpse at the Church of Inhibition in Liurnia. Guides also identify the Chapel of Anticipation corpse and Hyetta as alternatives.
- Return to Varré and claim the medal. Give him the bloodied Favor. After receiving the Bloody Finger, speak with him again to obtain the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.
- Use the medal. Activate it from your inventory to teleport to Mohgwyn Palace. The medal can be reused.
Reach Mohgwyn Palace through the Consecrated Snowfield
This route avoids Varré’s quest and player invasions, but requires late-game exploration and both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
- Find the right half. Obtain it from Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia.
- Find the left half. Defeat Commander Niall at Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants and collect the other half.
- Use the secret medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold. Select the option to hoist the secret medallion. This opens the route to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree and the Consecrated Snowfield.
- Cross to the Snowfield’s western side. Find the waygate there and use it to travel to Mohgwyn Palace.
Can you get there without Varré or online play?
Yes. The Consecrated Snowfield waygate does not depend on Varré’s quest or multiplayer. If you want earlier access but play offline, you can still progress Varré’s quest by invading Magnus the Beast Claw at Writheblood Ruins instead of invading players.
