Sony and Xiaomi have revealed a China-focused, limited-edition fitness tracker built around the existing Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro. Reported details point to a PlayStation-branded strap, themed packaging and commemorative extras—not a newly engineered Sony wearable or a separate PlayStation fitness platform.
The product was reported in January 2025 in connection with the 10th anniversary of PlayStation’s presence in China. The initial reveal was attributed to the official PlayStation China Weibo account by Gizchina. No confirmed worldwide launch, U.S. release, final retail price or shipping date has been established in the available reporting.
What was actually revealed?
The reported product is a PlayStation-themed edition of Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 Pro. Gizchina’s report describes a package containing a PlayStation-themed strap, a plain black replacement strap, a commemorative card and a charging cable. Visible design cues reportedly include the PlayStation logo, the controller’s triangle, circle, cross and square symbols, and blue-themed presentation.

The anniversary explanation and the Weibo announcement should be treated as reported details rather than as information confirmed by an accessible Sony press release. The evidence does establish a branded special edition; it does not establish a new PlayStation-designed operating system, new sensors or a separate gaming wearable platform.

Is this a new PlayStation device?
Apparently not in hardware terms. The available coverage identifies the underlying device as the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro, with the special edition’s differences concentrated in its branding, strap, packaging and commemorative contents.
That makes Sony’s apparent role a brand collaboration or licensing arrangement rather than evidence that Sony manufactured the tracker or developed a new wearable ecosystem. Neither company has, in the cited material, confirmed exclusive firmware, a different sensor package or hardware changes unique to the PlayStation edition.
What the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro offers
The following specifications come from Xiaomi’s official Smart Band 9 Pro documentation. Unless Xiaomi publishes a separate specification sheet for the PlayStation version, they describe the platform on which that edition appears to be based.

Health and exercise tracking
The standard band supports heart-rate, blood-oxygen (SpO₂), sleep and stress tracking, women’s health management, breathing exercises, more than 150 sports modes, independent GNSS workout recording, running courses and workout analysis, plus swimming recognition.
These are wellness and fitness functions, not medical diagnostics. Xiaomi says readings can vary with fit and conditions and that the band and Mi Fitness should not be used as a basis for diagnosis or treatment.

Battery expectations
“Up to 21 days” is Xiaomi’s typical-use claim, not a guaranteed runtime. Always-on display, frequent GNSS workouts, continuous monitoring and other heavy-load settings reduce endurance; Xiaomi lists shorter results for those modes.
What 5ATM means
Xiaomi’s 5ATM rating is intended for swimming and shallow-water activity. It does not make the band suitable for diving, saunas, hot showers or exposure to strong currents. Water resistance can also decline with age and wear.
Android and iPhone compatibility
The base model supports Android 8.0 or newer and iOS 12 or newer through Mi Fitness, but compatibility is not the same as identical functionality. Xiaomi notes that some functions can be limited to particular Xiaomi or Redmi phones, and features may depend on the phone operating system, region, app version and firmware.

What is PlayStation-specific?
Reported and visible additions
- PlayStation logo and controller-symbol styling.
- A themed strap.
- A black replacement strap.
- Blue-themed special packaging.
- A commemorative card and charging cable.
Those details are reported by Gizchina. They make the edition attractive as a collectible, but they do not by themselves change the band’s fitness capabilities.
Features that remain unverified
There is no corroborated official documentation for PlayStation Network connectivity, trophy support, game-linked exercise rewards, game-specific competitions, exclusive watch faces, a PlayStation companion app or special firmware. A separate article has made some of those claims, but they are not supported by Xiaomi’s official Smart Band 9 Pro documentation; they should not be treated as specifications.
Where and when can you buy it?
The available evidence supports a China-focused reveal, not a confirmed global retail launch. There is no established official U.S. or European release, final price, permanent product listing, inventory status or guaranteed 2026 availability in the cited coverage.

That makes marketplace listings especially risky. An imported unit can have uncertain warranty coverage, region-dependent Mi Fitness behavior, limited return rights and unclear seller provenance. Limited-edition packaging and straps are also easy to counterfeit. Before paying, verify the seller, photographs, serial or model information, return terms and whether the box is genuinely complete.
Do not treat a reseller’s asking price as the launch price. If the edition appears on a marketplace, check the country and currency, date of the listing, tax and shipping treatment, and whether the item is new, imported or used.
Should a PlayStation fan buy it?
It makes sense for collectors when
- You specifically want the PlayStation strap, packaging and commemorative materials.
- You already value the Smart Band 9 Pro’s basic tracking, GNSS and long claimed battery life.
- You can obtain a legitimate unit with acceptable warranty and return protection.
The standard Xiaomi band is the better value when
- Your priority is fitness functionality rather than branding.
- The special edition carries a substantial collector premium over the regular model.
- You can buy the standard band and an officially compatible replacement strap locally with better support.
Look elsewhere when
- You expect a full smartwatch with third-party apps, calls, cellular service or Wear OS.
- You require clinically validated health measurements.
- You need dependable long-term U.S. or European warranty and regional support.
- You want guaranteed PlayStation software integration, trophies or game rewards.
What this announcement does—and does not—mean
This is best understood as a themed, limited-edition presentation of an existing Xiaomi fitness band. It is not evidence that Sony has entered the wearable-hardware market with a new PlayStation operating system or a game-connected fitness service.

For collectors, the value lies mainly in the PlayStation branding, special strap, packaging, scarcity and provenance. Those are legitimate reasons to want it, but they are separate from any claim of new underlying technology.
