The tablet behind the “Red Magic Gaming Tablet” headlines is the REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in China and the REDMAGIC Astra 2 Gaming Tablet internationally. Its confirmed headline hardware includes a 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED display advertised at up to 185Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, RedCore R4 gaming chip, active liquid cooling and an 8,300mAh battery. The AnTuTu part needs a caveat: no sufficiently documented Astra 2 score is available, so a precise number should not be treated as confirmed.
Global launch coverage lists the Astra 2 from $699 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, with a 16GB/512GB model at $799 in the United States. China and global specifications—including charging—can differ.
Which RedMagic gaming tablet is this?
The name refers to one new tablet sold under different names by market: REDMAGIC launched the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in China on June 30, 2026, and uses Astra 2 Gaming Tablet for the international model. It succeeds the first-generation REDMAGIC Astra, rather than the earlier China-only RedMagic Gaming Tablet, the Nova, or another Nubia-branded tablet. What is the Astra 2’s AnTuTu score?
No exact Astra 2 AnTuTu score is sufficiently documented in the available launch coverage to present as a verified result. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and active cooling make flagship-level performance plausible, but they do not establish a benchmark number—or tell you how the tablet behaves in a long gaming session.
To judge a score reported elsewhere, look for the AnTuTu version, RAM and storage configuration, firmware, performance mode, battery level, device and room temperatures, whether external cooling was used, and whether the figure is a single peak or an average across runs. Scores from different AnTuTu versions are not directly comparable.

One user reported 2,853,945 in AnTuTu v10.5.2 for the earlier Astra. That is a user result for the previous tablet, not evidence of the Astra 2’s performance. The report should not be quoted as the new model’s score.

A 185Hz screen is not a promise of 185fps
The display can refresh up to 185 times per second, but a game must render frames at a matching rate to take full advantage. Many Android games cap frame rates below that level, and demanding titles may not sustain even 120fps. Higher refresh settings can also use more battery. REDMAGIC’s reported claim that more than 200 games support features such as 144Hz frame interpolation and 2K resolution is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every game supports those modes or renders natively at those rates.

Cooling is about sustained play, not just peak scores
The active liquid-cooling system is intended to help the tablet maintain performance during extended gaming. It does not eliminate heat: the system has to move heat away from components and into the chassis and surrounding air. Fans can make noise, and a high-performance mode can consume more power. Long-session tests of frame stability, temperature, noise and battery drain matter more to buyers than a single short benchmark peak.
PC-game translation is not native Windows gaming
REDMAGIC promotes PC-emulation or x86-translation features with Steam-related support, and claims of PC games at up to 2K/144Hz should be read as manufacturer claims. Translation overhead, game compatibility, controls, shader compilation, heat and licensing can all affect the result. “Steam support” does not mean that every Steam game installs and runs like it would on a Windows PC; compatibility needs to be checked game by game.

How it differs from the first REDMAGIC Astra
The first Astra paired a 9.06-inch display with a Snapdragon 8 Elite, an 8,200mAh battery and REDMAGIC OS 10.5 based on Android 15. Its official specification page is REDMAGIC’s Astra page.

The Astra 2 brings a newer chipset, faster advertised refresh rate, new gaming chip and cooling system, but its starting global price is about $200 higher than the first Astra’s reported launch price. That makes the previous model worth considering if it is discounted and its remaining software support meets your needs.

Global Astra 2
Global launch coverage lists the 12GB/256GB Astra 2 at $699 or €699 and the 16GB/512GB model at $799 in the United States. Early-bird access was scheduled for mid-August 2026, followed by wider sales later in August. China Gaming Tablet 5 Pro
The China model launched on June 30, 2026. Published reports give conflicting starting figures of 4,999 yuan and 5,299 yuan, potentially reflecting promotion timing or other pricing differences. Who should consider the Astra 2?
- Consider it if you want a compact, high-performance Android tablet for gaming, value active cooling, or prefer a roughly 9-inch device over a larger gaming slate.
- Consider it with caution if emulation or PC-game translation is central to your purchase: verify support for the exact games and peripherals you plan to use.
- Look elsewhere if you need cellular connectivity, a mature keyboard-and-productivity setup, a broad accessory ecosystem, or cameras as a priority. The reported specifications are Wi-Fi focused, and no cellular model is established here.
- Choose storage carefully: global launch coverage confirms 256GB and 512GB models, while 1TB is reported for China. Global 1TB availability is not established, and no microSD expansion is confirmed in the cited specifications.
For a larger gaming tablet, REDMAGIC’s Nova offers a different form factor and older hardware: its official page lists a 10.9-inch 2.8K/144Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, fan and 10,100mAh battery, while currently marking the product out of stock. Nova product page The Astra 2 is the more natural choice for compact OLED gaming; an iPad mini is a better category alternative for buyers who value Apple’s app ecosystem and software support over gaming-specific cooling and Android game compatibility.
