The fastest way to check is to open the game in the Microsoft Store or the Xbox Game Pass app, open its full details, and inspect the Languages or Languages supported table. Check the separate Interface, Audio, and Subtitles columns before buying or installing.
Check a game’s language support on an Xbox console
- From the Xbox Home screen, open Store, or open the Xbox Game Pass app.
- Search for the game or browse the catalog.
- Open the game’s product page or details screen.
- Find Languages or Languages supported. The wording and placement can vary between console software versions, Game Pass pages, older titles and regional storefronts.
- Open the complete language details rather than relying on the store description.
- Find your language and check whether it is listed under Interface, Audio, Subtitles, or more than one category.
Xbox says language information is available in both the Microsoft Store on Xbox and the Xbox Game Pass app on consoles. The official explanation is available in Xbox’s language-discovery announcement.
What the three language categories mean

“Available in your language” is therefore not a single yes-or-no feature. A game can offer translated menus and subtitles while keeping spoken audio in only one or two languages. For example, The First Descendant’s Xbox page shows that text-language coverage can be broader than its audio-language coverage.
Use your preferred language to make the list easier to scan
Xbox says the language selected as the console’s default language is placed at the top of a game’s supported-language list. That can save scrolling when you regularly check one language, but it does not translate games automatically.

Open the console’s language settings and choose your preferred display language. On many current builds the controls are under Settings → System → Language & location, although labels and placement can change. Reopen the Store or Game Pass page, then still verify the three columns: the first entry is only a convenience, not a guarantee of support.
Check language support on Xbox.com before turning on the console
Xbox.com product pages are useful for parents comparing games, Game Pass subscribers checking a title before installation, or anyone who wants to verify a purchase from a phone or computer. Current pages expose a Languages supported table with separate interface, audio and subtitle columns.

- Gears 5 and The Rewinder show the same style of language table on other product pages.
Check the page for the exact edition you intend to use. Console, PC, cloud, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and backward-compatible versions can differ in availability or localization.

Find language-supported games in Game Pass
- Open the Xbox Game Pass app on the console.
- Browse the catalog or search for a specific title.
- Open the title’s details.
- Inspect its language table before installing.
- Confirm that the title is available for your platform and account region.
Language tags help you evaluate a game, but they are not a universal language-only catalog filter. Xbox’s PC Game Pass page describes browsing, recommendations and genre filtering, not a guaranteed filter that returns every game supporting a particular language.
Game Pass access is also temporary and conditional. Xbox warns that titles, features, plans, platforms and regional availability vary over time. Check the catalog attached to your own account at the time you plan to play; see Xbox Game Pass information.
If the game launches in another language
- Start the game and open Options, Settings or Accessibility.
- Look for Language, Text language, Audio or Subtitles.
- Select the desired option and restart if the game requests it.
- If there is no in-game selector, confirm the Xbox console language and region, then restart the game.
- Check for a game update or a separately installed language pack.
- Compare the installed edition with the official Xbox product page and consult the publisher if the metadata and the game disagree.
Games handle language differently: some follow the console language, some provide their own selector, and some support only the languages bundled with a particular platform or regional version. Do not assume that changing the console setting will change every title.

Why a listed language may still be unavailable
Only one type of localization is included
The language may be listed for interface text or subtitles but not for spoken audio. For story-heavy games, check Audio specifically; for menu readability, Interface may be enough.

The edition, platform or region differs
Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud and backward-compatible editions may not share identical language data. A language shown on a page from another country also does not guarantee that the same edition is sold or playable in your Microsoft account’s region.
Content was added separately
Expansions and downloadable content can have different localization coverage from the base game. A language pack may also download separately, or a restart may be required after installation.

The metadata is old or incomplete
Store metadata is the best pre-purchase reference, but publisher data can be outdated. Check the current product page, install updates and contact the publisher when the listed columns conflict with the installed game.
Subtitles are not necessarily full captions
A subtitle track can translate dialogue without identifying sound effects or other audio cues. If accessibility is important, inspect the game’s caption controls, text-size options and narration features separately.

Store language is not game language
The Xbox storefront can display a localized title, description or interface even when the game itself has no matching translated menus, subtitles or voice audio. Only the game’s language table—and, after installation, its own settings—establishes what the game supports.
Decide before you buy or download
- Is your language listed on the exact product page?
- Is it marked under Interface, Audio, Subtitles, or all three?
- Are you viewing the correct console, PC or cloud edition?
- Is that edition sold and playable in your account’s region?
- If it is a Game Pass title, is it currently included in your plan and platform catalog?
- Could the game require an in-game setting, restart or separate language download?
- For children or accessibility needs, have you checked content ratings, caption behavior and text-size controls separately?
The Microsoft Store on Xbox is the appropriate starting point for individual purchases, while the Game Pass app is useful for comparing titles you may want to try through a subscription. A generic Store or Game Pass link does not replace checking the specific game page and its language columns.
