Short answer: the January 2025 “Nintendo Switch 2 logo leak” was not an official Nintendo asset. It was Felipe Lima’s recreation of an alleged logo seen in a real-world image supplied by a source. Nintendo had not verified it, and the original image was not published. But Nintendo’s final branding, used on the console released June 5, 2025, retained the familiar Switch emblem and added a prominent “2”—making the leak broadly accurate in concept, though not proving the image’s provenance or every graphic detail.
The alleged logo looked almost unchanged
The design described in the January 9, 2025 report kept the two-part Joy-Con-style emblem and the existing “Nintendo Switch” wordmark. Its major change was a large numeral “2” placed beside the emblem. The result looked intentionally close to the original Switch logo rather than like a new identity for an unrelated console.
That visual description also appeared in a separate December 26, 2024 report about alleged photographs from the leaker known as NextHandheld. One reported image showed a dock bearing a mark that resembled the original Switch logo with a large “2” added. Both reports treated the material as unverified.
Read literally, “the logo leaked” overstates what was available. Readers saw a reported reconstruction and descriptions of an alleged physical logo—not a Nintendo press image, trademark filing, official product render or company announcement.

It was a recreation, not an official Nintendo reveal
What Felipe Lima reported
According to Gizmochina’s January 9, 2025 account, Felipe Lima, identified there as editor-in-chief of Universo Nintendo, said his recreation was based on a real-life image supplied by a source. Lima reportedly chose to redraw the logo rather than publish the alleged original because of copyright concerns.
That distinction matters. A recreation can communicate the shape, layout and overall appearance of something someone claims to have seen, but it is not the same as the source image and is not evidence that Nintendo created or distributed the artwork. Lima’s description of the source as reliable was his characterization; Nintendo did not independently authenticate it.
What was not established
- The identity of the source was not publicly established.
- The original photograph or image was not published for independent inspection.
- Nintendo had not confirmed the logo or the “Nintendo Switch 2” name when the January report appeared.
- Fan-edited and community-redrawn versions that circulated afterward should not be treated as Nintendo artwork.
Another report described a similar dock logo
Nintendo Wire reported on December 26, 2024 that alleged images from NextHandheld included a dock with a logo using the same basic idea: the familiar Switch mark accompanied by a large “2.” That report was also a rumor, not a verified Nintendo disclosure.

The two accounts therefore provide corroboration for the concept—a mostly unchanged Switch logo with a generational numeral—but they do not automatically authenticate one another or prove that every console, dock or accessory image circulating at the time came from the same legitimate source.
What Nintendo later confirmed
Nintendo formally announced Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, 2025 and released it on June 5, 2025. Nintendo’s official materials use the “Nintendo Switch 2” name, and its support documentation now places the Switch 2 logo beside the original Switch logo for identification.
The company’s official mark preserves the recognizable Joy-Con-style symbol and the Switch wordmark while adding a conspicuous “2.” In other words, the final production branding follows the central visual prediction made by the earlier reports.

Nintendo’s later announcement also established facts that the logo could not: the system has 256GB of internal storage (with some capacity reserved for system use), uses microSD Express cards for expansion, supports many physical and digital Switch games with some exceptions, and can output up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second in supported conditions. Those specifications came from Nintendo’s announcement, not from the logo.
Did the leak get the logo right?

The fairest verdict is therefore “broadly right,” not “confirmed.” The official logo validates the direction and substantial visual concept. It does not prove that Lima’s recreation was copied from a production asset, that the alleged photograph was genuine, or that every leaked image in the same period was authentic.
Why the familiar look made sense
Keeping the Switch name and emblem preserves immediate recognition for existing owners, retailers and accessory makers, while the numeral distinguishes the new generation. It also communicates that Switch 2 is a successor within the Switch family rather than a wholly separate platform.

That is a reasonable branding inference from the finished product, not a rationale Nintendo explicitly states in the cited materials. The official logo confirms continuity; it does not document the internal decision-making behind it.

- Processing performance
- Backward-compatibility limits
- How Joy-Con 2 controllers attach
- Dock construction or output specifications
- Price or release date
Those details required separate evidence and were only settled by Nintendo’s later announcements and product documentation. A logo can indicate naming and brand strategy, but it cannot establish hardware specifications.

The console includes Joy-Con 2 controllers, a dock, grip, straps, power accessories and an HDMI cable. Optional accessories include the Switch 2 Pro Controller and Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip; ordinary microSD cards are not the correct expansion format because Switch 2 requires microSD Express. Accessory choice is separate from the logo story and does not make the earlier leak more or less authentic.
Timeline of the logo story
- December 26, 2024: Nintendo Wire reports alleged dock and console images with a Switch-like logo and a “2.”
- January 9, 2025: Gizmochina reports Felipe Lima’s recreated logo and notes that Nintendo has not verified it.
- April 2, 2025: Nintendo officially announces Nintendo Switch 2.
- June 5, 2025: Nintendo Switch 2 launches.
- August 2026: Nintendo’s official logo makes the earlier visual prediction assessable in hindsight.
Bottom line
The January story was a rumor about a recreation, not a verified Nintendo reveal. Nintendo’s finished Switch 2 branding nevertheless retained the old Switch symbol and added a large “2,” so the leak was substantially accurate in its central visual prediction. What remains unproven is the chain of custody: there is no public evidence that Nintendo’s final artwork came directly from the alleged image or that every related hardware leak was genuine.
