The RedMagic gaming tablet teased in August 2024 was not simply an upcoming device: its China presentation was scheduled for September 5, 2024. Pre-launch reports identified its processor as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, a faster-clocked variant, and described a high-refresh display and active cooling. “Gaming Tablet 2” was a working name in early coverage, not a confirmed final retail name.
Was the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 2 real?
The story began with a report attributing the tablet’s development and chipset to tipster Digital Chat Station. The device was commonly called the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 2 in coverage, though that early report noted that RedMagic had not confirmed its final commercial name. The initial expectation was an announcement by late August 2024; subsequent coverage gave a specific China presentation date of September 5, 2024. Gizchina’s original report and later launch-date reporting establish the rumor-to-announcement timeline, but the provisional label should not be mistaken for a verified retail name.
When was it due, and what did “launch” mean?
RedMagic’s presentation was reported for September 5, 2024, in China. That date superseded the earlier late-August forecast; it was not evidence of a simultaneous worldwide retail release. TechnoSports reported the scheduled China launch, while a September 4 pre-launch report also said the presentation would take place the following day.

Which Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was reported?
The more precise pre-launch claim was Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, not merely the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Reports described the Leading Version as an overclocked edition with a faster prime Cortex-X4 core and linked the platform to RedMagic’s 9S Pro gaming phone. Gizchina’s report used the Leading Version wording; it should not be relabeled “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.”
That distinction matters when comparing performance claims: a higher-clocked chip may offer more peak performance, but it can also produce more heat. The chipset name alone does not establish frame rates, sustained performance, or how much the tablet’s cooling changes results in a particular game.

What specifications were reported before the presentation?
Pre-launch coverage mixed tipster claims, company teasers as described by outlets, and less certain configuration speculation. The following table keeps those claims separate rather than presenting every figure as a confirmed retail specification.

Early coverage compared the new tablet with the first RedMagic gaming tablet, reported with a 12.1-inch LCD, 2.5K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 10,000mAh battery and 80W charging. The comparison suggested a smaller screen and higher charging figures for the newer model, but the early RAM, storage, battery and charging claims should not be treated as universal configuration facts. Gizchina’s original report provides that first-generation reference and the early expectations.

Why put a fan inside a gaming tablet?
Reports described PAD Magic Cooling ICE 2.0 as combining a centrifugal fan, internal circulation air duct, heat pipe, vapor-chamber-style hardware and other heat-dissipating materials in a nine-layer arrangement. Gizmochina’s pre-launch coverage detailed the system.
Active cooling is intended to move heat away from a high-power chipset during long gaming sessions, which may help it sustain performance rather than reduce clocks as temperatures rise. The existence of a fan does not prove that throttling disappears or that a given game will hold a particular frame rate; those outcomes require sustained independent testing. A fan also brings practical compromises: audible operation, openings that can admit dust, and another mechanical component. The reported 840Hz touch-sampling figure likewise is not an end-to-end latency measurement, and a 144Hz panel only benefits games and software that actually support higher refresh rates.

Was a second, larger tablet also planned?
One unofficial report suggested RedMagic might present two tablets: a roughly 10.8-inch model with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version and a roughly 12.4-inch model using Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Laikas.lt reported the possibility, but the available information does not establish whether both models were released, how they were named, or whether the larger device belonged to the same product family. Treat it as an unresolved pre-launch claim, not a confirmed second SKU.
What should buyers check today?
Because the cited launch was a China presentation in 2024 and the current Singapore storefront highlights newer Astra-family tablets, anyone encountering an old or imported listing should verify the exact model and seller before buying. The official storefront is a useful place to see what RedMagic currently promotes in that market, not proof that every historical tablet is globally discontinued or available elsewhere.

- Market and warranty: Confirm the seller’s region, warranty provider, return terms and whether service is available where you live.
- Firmware and apps: Check the exact model’s language options, app-store support, Google Play availability and notification behavior rather than assuming a China-market unit matches a global Android tablet.
- Connectivity and media: Verify cellular bands, GPS, NFC, Widevine and DRM support against the listing and your intended services; these capabilities are not established by the pre-launch reports summarized above.
- Power and battery: Confirm whether a compatible 120W charger is included for that market. A nominal 10,100mAh capacity cannot predict gaming runtime, which depends on brightness, refresh rate, network use and workload.
- Controls and cooling: Check controller mapping, Bluetooth behavior, case fit and whether any external cooler physically mounts to the tablet. Phone-oriented cooling accessories should not be assumed compatible.
For a current RedMagic alternative, the Singapore official storefront lists Astra-family tablets; these are newer products, not another name for the 2024 rumor. Availability, configurations and prices vary by region, so consult the local official store before deciding.
