Xbox supports mouse and keyboard, but support is optional and decided game by game. A wired USB keyboard and mouse can help with dashboard text entry, selected apps and compatible games; plugging them in does not make every Xbox title playable with PC-style controls.
Console support and Xbox Cloud Gaming support are separate. The most reliable way to find native console games is Microsoft Store’s live Console Keyboard & Mouse filter. Xbox Cloud Gaming maintains its own supported-title list, which can be much larger.

Yes, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S can use compatible mouse-and-keyboard peripherals in selected games. Xbox’s official guidance identifies wired USB devices as the safest setup for navigation in supported games and apps: Xbox accessibility guidance. Microsoft gives developers control over whether and how a title implements the feature, as documented in its 2018 developer announcement.

A game may offer full gameplay controls, keyboard-only input, menu or chat support, or support only through the cloud. A PC version’s keyboard-and-mouse badge is not proof that the Xbox version has the same feature.
Notable Xbox console games with support
Use Microsoft’s Console Keyboard & Mouse Store filter as the live discovery list. It showed roughly 29–30 results when checked, but the count and ordering are dynamic.

These examples demonstrate that support is not limited to shooters. Survival hotbars, simulation interfaces, tactical shortcuts and precision interaction can all benefit, while controller-first genres may still feel better on a gamepad. The Store filter is evidence for the Xbox listing, not a permanent exhaustive list.

Xbox Cloud Gaming support is a separate list
Xbox began rolling out mouse-and-keyboard play in supported browsers, including Edge and Chrome, in May 2024. Its initial announcement described 25 titles and explained that players can go to xbox.com/play, choose a supported game and switch input by pressing a keyboard key or the Xbox button on a controller: Xbox’s May 2024 update.
Xbox Wire reported on April 30, 2026 that more than 190 cloud-playable games had active mouse-and-keyboard support. That is a cloud figure, not the number of games that accept the devices when installed and run natively on an Xbox console: April 30, 2026 update.

Cloud availability depends on the client, browser, subscription, region and game catalog. A cloud badge does not establish native-console support, and a native-console badge does not automatically establish cloud support.

How to check a game before you buy or install it
For native Xbox console play
- Open the Xbox games section of the Microsoft Store.
- Apply the Console Keyboard & Mouse capability filter: open the live filter.
- Open the individual product page and check the exact platform, edition and region.
- Read the game’s control settings or current developer documentation for mode-specific or partial support.
For Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Go to xbox.com/play and sign in.
- Choose a title explicitly marked for mouse and keyboard.
- Connect the devices before or during the session.
- Use a keyboard key or the Xbox controller button to switch input when the title supports that behavior.
Do not treat a Windows PC listing, a Game Pass inclusion, or a generic “playable on Xbox” label as input confirmation. Verify subscription access and mouse-and-keyboard capability independently.

- Start wired: connect a standard USB keyboard and mouse directly to the console. This follows Xbox’s clearest official compatibility guidance.
- Wireless caution: a device using a compatible USB receiver may work, but Bluetooth-only compatibility is not universal. Check the peripheral maker’s Xbox information.
- Expect fewer PC features: macros, remapping utilities, RGB controls, polling-rate tools, custom drivers and per-game software may not be available.
- Restart after connecting: some games recognize the devices only after launch or after reaching gameplay.
Troubleshooting common failures
The keyboard works but the mouse does not
- The title may support keyboard input without mouse aiming.
- Mouse input may begin only after loading into gameplay.
- Menus may remain controller-only.
- Store metadata may be incomplete or outdated.
- A hub or wireless adapter may be incompatible.
Connect both devices directly, restart the game, test another confirmed title, inspect in-game controls and verify that you are using the Xbox console version rather than PC or cloud play.
A wireless device will not connect
Try a wired USB keyboard and mouse first. Do not assume that a Bluetooth model supported by a PC is supported directly by your Xbox console.

Cloud works, but the installed game does not
Cloud and native versions can implement input independently. Recheck the relevant Store capability or cloud badge instead of treating one as proof of the other.

They are most compelling if you play FPS, survival, strategy, simulation, tactical, MMO or text-heavy games and want precise aiming, hotkeys, inventory access or faster chat. A wired starter combination is the least risky purchase.

Players who need broader remapping or universal PC-style support may prefer a Windows PC. Players whose accessibility needs are not met by a conventional keyboard and mouse can also consider the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

Can every Xbox game use a mouse and keyboard?
No. Developers enable the feature per title, and support can be full, keyboard-only, partial or limited to a particular mode or client.
Does Xbox support Bluetooth mouse and keyboard?
Do not assume it. Wired USB devices are the safest official recommendation; wireless models using compatible USB receivers may work, while direct Bluetooth support varies.
