A late-June 2022 leak attributed to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station reportedly outlined two phones—the Black Shark 5S and Black Shark 5S Pro. The alleged refresh centered on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, faster SSD-plus-UFS storage, a 4,790mAh battery and 120W charging. Those details were never established as an official Black Shark specification sheet, and the 5S should not be treated as a current 2026 product announcement.
Status check: The specifications below come from 2022 tipster and secondary reports. Contemporary coverage expected a September 2022 launch, but the official Black Shark global material confirms the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro—not a Black Shark 5S release.

The core leak was reported by Gizmochina as information attributed to Digital Chat Station: the specification report. Suara’s coverage supplied the 64MP/108MP model split and gaming-hardware claims: its Black Shark 5S and 5S Pro report.

What the leak suggested about performance
Both alleged models were expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. That would have been a generation refresh over the documented 2022 lineup: the Black Shark 5 used Snapdragon 870, while the Black Shark 5 Pro used Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The comparison is supported by launch and partner material, including Elliptic Labs’ product announcement and Black Shark’s global launch release.

Reports also mentioned a hybrid SSD-plus-UFS storage design. They did not establish capacities, the precise UFS generation, whether an SSD was fitted to every configuration, or any measured loading-time improvement. It is therefore a claimed hardware feature, not evidence of a particular benchmark result.
Gaming controls and feedback
- Magnetic or pop-up triggers could add physical inputs in games that support custom control layouts.
- An X-axis linear motor could provide stronger vibration feedback, but the experience would depend on software integration.
- Stereo speakers could help positional audio; the leak did not establish loudness or tuning quality.
A high refresh rate can make supported games look and feel smoother, but sustained frame rate depends on the game, thermal limits and software. No independent performance testing for a 5S handset is established here.

Display claims: OLED, pressure sensitivity and 144Hz
The reported panel was a 6.67-inch, FHD+ OLED with pressure sensitivity and a centered punch-hole camera. Some follow-up reports listed 720Hz touch sampling. These are different measurements: refresh rate describes how often the display updates, touch sampling describes how often touch input is read, and pressure sensitivity refers to force-based input.

The 144Hz figure needs particular caution. Gizmochina noted that the leak did not clearly state the refresh rate and that 144Hz was partly inferred from the existing Black Shark 5 family. Black Shark did officially promote 144Hz displays on the existing phones in its June 9, 2022 global announcement; that does not confirm the same panel for an unannounced 5S.

Battery and charging
Reports gave both phones a 4,790mAh battery and 120W wired charging. The capacity was not identified as an official typical or rated figure, and no verified charging-time test was provided. Charger inclusion could also vary by region.
120W was continuity rather than a new direction: Black Shark officially listed 120W charging for the global Black Shark 5 series. Temperature, cable, charger, battery state and regional configuration would all affect real charging speed.

The 64MP and 108MP figures were presented as the main distinction between the two rumored models. The reports did not establish ultrawide, macro or telephoto resolutions, optical stabilization, selfie-camera resolution, video limits or camera software, so those details should not be filled in from assumptions about the Black Shark 5 family.

Black Shark announced the Black Shark 5, 5 RS and 5 Pro in China in March 2022, according to Xinhua’s product coverage. The 5 and 5 Pro then received a global announcement on June 9. That release highlighted 144Hz displays, 120W charging, magnetic pop-up triggers, anti-gravity dual-VC cooling and GameEngine performance features.

The prices in the table are the official 2022 global launch prices for the 5 and 5 Pro only; they are not 5S prices. The 5S rumor therefore looked like an “S” refresh: a newer processor and possible storage changes alongside broadly familiar display, trigger and charging ideas, rather than a wholly new generation.
Release timing, availability and what happened afterward
Contemporary reports expected a China launch around September 2022, with possible later-market availability. Gizchina recorded that expectation in its contemporaneous report, while Everyeye also described the tipped timing at its coverage page.
That was a forecast, not a confirmed schedule. The official global announcement reviewed for this story lists the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro, not a 5S model. No dependable official 5S price, product page or current purchase listing is established by those materials. A marketplace listing using “5S” could be a misnamed Black Shark 5, 5 Pro or 5 RS, and reseller terminology alone does not prove an official release.
“Xiaomi Black Shark 5S” is also imprecise branding. The product line is Black Shark; describing it as Xiaomi-backed may provide context, but Xiaomi’s mainstream smartphone division should not be presented as having officially announced the 5S.
How to read the 5S claims today
- Treat Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 4,790mAh, 120W, camera resolutions, storage architecture and gaming hardware as reported specifications.
- Treat 144Hz as likely or inferred, not definitively stated by the leak.
- Do not infer missing RAM, storage capacities, camera modules, bands, software versions or regional accessories.
- Do not use the Black Shark 5’s official pricing or availability as proof of 5S availability.
- Remember that even if the reported 2022 design had shipped, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 would not be a current flagship platform in 2026.
Bottom line
The Black Shark 5S was a credible historical leak story, not a confirmed product announcement. Its alleged appeal was an incremental gaming-phone refresh built around Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, SSD-plus-UFS storage, 120W charging and a 64MP base camera, with a 108MP camera reserved for the rumored 5S Pro. Official Black Shark material confirms the 2022 Black Shark 5 family, while the 5S specifications and release remain unconfirmed.
