If Microsoft Solitaire Collection will not open, crashes, gets stuck loading, or will not update, start with a restart and a Microsoft Store update; then try the Store cache reset and Solitaire’s Repair option before resetting or reinstalling the game. The menus differ between Windows 10 and Windows 11, and an app that opens but cannot load online features may need account or network troubleshooting instead.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection is available through the Microsoft Store, but it is not necessarily installed or available on every PC. Store availability can depend on region, account, device compatibility, and administrator settings.
Match the fix to the symptom

Use the steps below in order when you are unsure. The early fixes are less disruptive; Reset and reinstall come later because they may affect local app data or sign-in state.

1. Close Solitaire completely and reopen it
- Select the X in the upper-right corner of the Solitaire window.
- Wait a few seconds, open Start, type Microsoft Solitaire Collection, and launch it again.
If the window is frozen, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Select Microsoft Solitaire Collection if it appears, choose End task, and try opening the game again.

2. Restart the PC
- Select Start > Power > Restart.
- After Windows starts, open Solitaire again.
Choose Restart, not Sleep. A restart is especially useful after updates: Microsoft notes that a recently updated PC may need a restart before Store apps can be installed. See Microsoft’s guidance on finding or installing Store apps.
3. Install available Windows updates
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates, install anything available, and restart if prompted.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates, install anything available, and restart if prompted.
Microsoft includes keeping Windows current among its recommended steps for Store apps. Updates can address compatibility or Store-component problems, but they are not a guaranteed Solitaire fix. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; as of 2026, ordinary free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided for Windows 10. This does not by itself prevent Solitaire from running, but an outdated Windows installation may be harder to troubleshoot.
4. Update Microsoft Store and Solitaire
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library, then Get updates or Check for updates.
- Let Store and Solitaire updates finish, then try the game again.
On older Windows 10 Store versions, the route may instead be See more (…) > Downloads and updates > Get updates. Labels vary by Store version. Microsoft describes the current update process in its guide to getting updates for Store apps and games.

5. Reset the Microsoft Store cache with wsreset.exe
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand select OK. - A blank Command Prompt window may appear. Wait for it to close and for Microsoft Store to open automatically.
- Search the Store for Microsoft Solitaire Collection and try launching or installing it.
Microsoft says the blank window normally closes after about ten seconds. This step targets Store-cache or Store-launch trouble; it does not reset Solitaire itself or fix account, server, compatibility, or damaged Windows-component problems.
6. Repair Microsoft Solitaire Collection
Repair is the preferable first app-level fix because it is less disruptive than Reset. The labels depend on your Windows version and build; if you do not see the listed route, search Settings for “Solitaire.”
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Solitaire Collection, select its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available, then try launching the game.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft Solitaire Collection, then Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available, and try the game again.
Microsoft documents app Repair and Reset as built-in recovery options where available in its guidance for fixing programs that cannot be installed or removed.

7. Reset Solitaire if Repair does not help
- Return to Solitaire’s Advanced options page using the Windows 10 or Windows 11 route above.
- Select Reset and confirm.
- Restart the game and sign in again if asked.
Reset is more intrusive than Repair and may remove local app data or sign-in state. Do not assume that settings, Daily Challenge history, achievements, or progress will be preserved; the available guidance does not establish exactly how every item is stored or synchronized for every account and version.

Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters, if shown.
- Choose Windows Store Apps > Run the troubleshooter, if that option appears.
- Apply any suggested fix and restart.
Microsoft lists this troubleshooter for Windows 10 Store-app issues, but troubleshooting menus have changed and it may not be available on every installation. If it is missing, continue to reinstall or account checks rather than searching for an unofficial replacement.

- Open Start > Settings > Apps.
- Find Microsoft Solitaire Collection, select it, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart the PC.
- Open Microsoft Store and search for Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
- Select Install or Get.
You can also open Store Library and install it there; older Windows 10 Store versions may show See more (…) > My Library. Reinstalling may require sign-in again and should not be treated as a guarantee that local data or online features will be restored.

10. Check Store access, account, and device restrictions
If Solitaire is absent, unavailable, or cannot be downloaded, resolve Store access before repeating app repairs. Microsoft lists several reasons an app may not appear or install, including region, account, device compatibility, family settings, device authorization, administrator policy, or a pending restart.
- Sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account you intend to use.
- On a recently updated or upgraded PC, restart before trying again.
- Check whether the Store is blocked by a work or school administrator; managed PCs may require administrator help.
- Check whether the app is available in your region and compatible with the device. Microsoft’s Store availability guidance covers these cases.
- If downloads fail across devices, review the account’s authorized device list; Microsoft explains how to manage devices used with a Microsoft account.
- If Microsoft Store itself is missing, search Start for it. Microsoft notes that a local account, configuration, or administrator restriction can affect access; see Can’t find Microsoft Store app.
For a specific Store error such as 0x80131500, keep the exact code and use Microsoft’s error-specific guidance. Its version requirement for that error scenario should not be mistaken for a complete Solitaire system-requirements list.

A game that launches successfully but cannot load Daily Challenges, Events, sign-in, or synchronized progress is a different problem from an app that will not open. Reinstalling may not fix an account, network, or service-side failure, and resetting local data can be unnecessarily disruptive.
- Note whether the game itself opens and which specific feature fails.
- Record any displayed error code.
- Check whether the same account has the problem on another device; this can help distinguish a device-specific issue from an account or online-service issue.
When to stop troubleshooting locally
If the Store is disabled on a work-managed PC, ask the administrator about access. For persistent Store errors, account/device authorization issues, or a failed reinstall despite Store availability, use Microsoft’s Store-app troubleshooting guidance. Avoid registry cleaners, DLL downloads, unofficial Solitaire installers, and unexplained PowerShell scripts: they are not the first-line fixes Microsoft recommends for Store apps.
A Windows reset is a system-level step, not a routine fix for one failing game. Microsoft’s Reset your PC guidance explains that resetting reinstalls Windows and can remove apps or settings, so consider it only for broader Windows problems after less disruptive options have failed.
