Here are 100 role-playing video games, ranked by their blend of character progression, role-playing, combat, exploration and lasting design. This is an editorial guide, not a universal or objective ranking: there is no single canonical Top 100, and lists vary with their scope and judgment. The selection includes computer and console games, but not tabletop RPGs. Some entries are hybrids whose RPG systems are central to the experience even if they are not always classified primarily as RPGs.
Use the descriptions to find a fit by combat style, story, exploration and build choices—not just by position. This list does not guarantee that a particular game or edition is currently available in your region or on your platform; check the exact version before buying.
How to use this list
RPGs have no universally agreed boundary. A useful working definition is a game where character progression and role-playing meaningfully shape the experience, often alongside narrative, combat and exploration. That leaves room for distinct traditions, from party-based Japanese RPGs to open-world action RPGs and tactical computer role-playing games. It also admits a few hybrids where RPG-like progression is a defining part of play.

The order is an editorial ranking, not a score assembled from review aggregates. Higher entries are especially strong combinations of craft, role-playing and influence; a lower position does not mean a game is a poor choice. Older releases may require a particular edition, platform or compatibility solution, so confirm what you can play before choosing.

RPG availability can differ by region, storefront, platform and edition, and older games may have more than one release. Confirm that the specific version you intend to play runs on your hardware and includes the language or content you want.
