Sony ended the built-in X integration on PS5 and PS4 on November 13, 2023. This was not a shutdown of PS5, PlayStation Network, or X on other devices: it removed console features for linking an X account, viewing X content, and sharing gameplay activity directly to the platform. You can still share captures using the PlayStation App and other supported options.
What ended on PS5 and PS4?
Sony’s notice describes the change as the termination of X integration, with X formerly known as Twitter. The affected features were the console’s direct connection to the social platform—not the console’s internet connection or general ability to share gameplay.
- Linking an X account to a PS5 or PS4 for the integrated features.
- Viewing X content from the console.
- Posting or viewing gameplay-related activity, including captures and trophy activity, directly through the integration.
Sony’s service notice lists the change as completed. It does not say that X itself became unavailable on phones, computers, or other devices, nor does it establish that every possible web-based route to content is blocked.

The effective date Sony gave was November 13, 2023, and the change covered both PS5 and PS4. Sony’s regional notices indicate that timing can differ slightly by territory, so that date should not be read as a claim that every region changed at the same local time. The regional notice provides the corresponding regional context.

How to share PS5 captures now
The PlayStation App is Sony’s main bridge for moving supported PS5 captures to a phone, where they can be downloaded or shared through compatible social apps. Automatic upload requires the console to be linked to the app and configured for the feature.
Turn on automatic capture uploads
- In the PlayStation App, open Library > Captures, then select Enable.
- On PS5, go to Settings > Captures and Broadcasts > Captures and turn on Auto-Upload.
- Keep the console in Rest Mode with Stay Connected to the Internet enabled. The feature must also be available in your country or region; install the latest available version of the app for iOS or Android.

Upload one capture manually
- On PS5, open Media Gallery.
- Highlight the screenshot or clip and press the Options button.
- Select Upload to PlayStation App.
Share or download it from the app
- In the PlayStation App, open Library > Captures and select the capture.
- Choose Share to send it to a party, friend, or compatible social-media app; or choose Download to save it to your phone.
- If the social app you want is not offered, download the file and attach it from that app instead.

- Video clips must be under three minutes long.
- Video uploads are non-4K, up to 1920 × 1080.
- Uploaded captures remain available in the app for 14 days after creation; the app should not be treated as permanent storage.
Screenshots made through the Create menu or Create-button shortcuts are supported, and manual upload is available for supported captures. These conditions are documented in Sony’s PS5 capture and app guide.
Other PS5 sharing and broadcasting options
Removing X integration did not remove PS5 capture and sharing controls. Sony continues to document sharing captures with PlayStation friends or parties, sharing through select social-media apps, and broadcasting gameplay through supported services such as YouTube and Twitch. If a capture does not appear in the PlayStation App
- Check that the console is linked to the PlayStation account used in the app.
- Confirm Auto-Upload is enabled and the console is in Rest Mode with Stay Connected to the Internet turned on.
- Check the clip’s length and resolution against the upload limits above.
- Check whether more than 14 days have passed since the capture was created.
- If automatic upload still does not work, try the manual Media Gallery > Options > Upload to PlayStation App route for a supported capture.
Why did Sony remove the integration?
Sony’s official notice does not give a reason. Contemporary reporting connected the timing to changes in X’s developer API pricing, but that is reporting context, not a rationale Sony confirmed. See ITmedia’s November 2023 report for that account.
What “Twitter support” means now
The phrase can refer to different things: Sony’s built-in PS5/PS4 connection ended, while using X on a separate device was not part of that console-integration shutdown. Sharing a console capture to X may still be possible through a supported mobile sharing route, but it is no longer the former direct console-to-X workflow. Sony’s notice concerns the integration and its associated features.
