Roblox updates according to how you installed it. For the Microsoft Store app, open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates. For the desktop player installed from Roblox.com, launch a game from Roblox.com; it normally installs or starts the current player. If it keeps saying it needs an update, loops on “Getting Latest Roblox,” or asks you to install Roblox again, repair or reinstall the correct version.
First, identify which Roblox installation you have
Windows 11 can have more than one Roblox package. The update instructions are different, so check before changing anything.
Microsoft Store apps
- Open Start and search for Roblox.
- Check the exact name and icon:
- Roblox – Windows has a blue icon and is the newer Microsoft Store app.
- Roblox with a light-gray icon is the older Store app. Roblox recommends moving to the newer app.

Website-installed desktop player
If you normally sign in at Roblox.com and click Play, you may have Roblox Player or Roblox Player Launcher installed outside the Microsoft Store. This is a separate Windows program from either Store app. Roblox does not provide a universally useful public Windows build number that ordinary players can compare, so identify it by its installation route rather than by searching for a number.

Update Roblox – Windows through Microsoft Store
Microsoft Store apps are designed to update automatically, but you can force a check when Roblox appears outdated.
- Close Roblox completely.
- Open Microsoft Store from the Start menu.
- Select Library.
- Select Get updates.
- Wait for Roblox and any other Store apps to finish updating.
- Start Roblox – Windows again.

If you still have the old Roblox Store app
Updating the old app is not the same as switching to Roblox’s newer package. Search Microsoft Store for Roblox – Windows and install that app if your Start-menu entry is simply Roblox with the light-gray icon. Use only the Microsoft Store listing or Roblox.com; avoid third-party “Roblox updater” downloads.

There is generally no separate Update Roblox button in Windows Settings for the website-installed player. The normal update path is to launch an experience from Roblox.com.

- Restart the PC if Roblox or its installer was recently stuck.
- Close Roblox, Roblox Studio, your browser, and other programs that might still be using Roblox files.
- Sign in at Roblox.com and join any experience.
- If Roblox asks to be installed, download and run the official Roblox installer shown by the site.
- If the launcher repeatedly fails or opens an installation loop, uninstall Roblox and reinstall it as described below.

Roblox will not update or open: use this escalation order
1. Restart Roblox and Windows
Exit Roblox rather than leaving a launcher process running in the background, then restart Windows. A running process can keep files locked during an update.
2. Install pending Windows 11 updates
- Open Start → Settings → Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart if Windows requests it.

3. Update Microsoft Store itself
For a Store installation, reopen Microsoft Store after Windows updates finish and repeat Library → Get updates. Make sure you are signed in to the Store account that installed the app.

4. Repair or reset the Store app
- Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Roblox – Windows.
- Select its three-dot menu, then Advanced options.
- Select Repair and test Roblox.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset and test again.
Repair attempts to fix the installation while preserving more local state. Reset can remove local app data, so you may need to sign in or restore settings. These controls may not appear for the traditional website-installed desktop program.
5. Check security software
Roblox lists firewall and security software as possible causes of blocked launches or connections. Check whether your firewall or antivirus has quarantined or blocked Roblox, and add an exception only through that product’s normal controls when appropriate. Do not disable protection permanently.
6. Reinstall Roblox
Reinstall when Roblox repeatedly requests an update, crashes while joining an experience, remains in an installation loop, or has files that may be corrupted. Roblox says a reinstall can replace broken or deleted files; restarting between uninstalling and reinstalling can help when the first attempt fails.

Remove the installed app
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Roblox. Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows before reinstalling if Roblox was stuck or the first reinstall attempt failed.
For a Store app, you can also reinstall it from Microsoft Store’s Library after removal. For the website version, sign in at Roblox.com, join an experience, and run the official installer when prompted. Fix “Getting Latest Roblox” and installation loops
“Getting Latest Roblox” does not prove that a normal update is merely taking a long time. Roblox identifies endless installation loops, damaged files, temporary-file problems, and blocked access as possible desktop issues.
- Wait briefly, then cancel and try once more.
- Restart Windows.
- Close Roblox, Roblox Studio, and the browser completely.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- If you use Roblox – Windows, run Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates, then try Repair and Reset.
- If you use the website player, uninstall and reinstall it from Roblox.com.
- Check firewall and antivirus permissions.
- Try the other official Windows distribution: switch to Roblox – Windows or to the Roblox.com player.
Roblox recommends trying the opposite Windows distribution for certain client-side failures, including library-loading problems. Microsoft Store or Roblox.com: which should you use?

Neither channel has a universally guaranteed update time, and one should not be described as faster or more stable for every PC. Roblox presents the newer Store app as an improved replacement for the older Store app and recommends trying the alternate channel when a client-side problem persists.

When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox Support after the channel-specific update, repair or reinstall steps fail. Include:
- The exact error message, such as “Getting Latest Roblox” or an installation prompt.
- Whether you use Roblox – Windows, the older Store app, or the website-installed player.
- Your Windows 11 version.
- Whether you restarted, installed Windows updates, repaired or reset the Store app, reinstalled Roblox, checked security software, and tried the alternate official client.
